Supergirl- the most overblown media panning campaign ever.

Going into this film, from the people here and some of the reviews- you’d expect a catastrophic disaster on the scale of Catwoman.

Its not that, its a perfectly serviceble film on the scale of Superman(2025) and Wonder Woman(2017). The reviews from critics are baffling to me.

It has its issues like those films have their issues- mostly it feels like a high end back door pilot for a tv show and less of a stand alone Supergirl film- it’s too entrenched in Superman and his lore to be its own complete spinoff film as it expands on Krypton and his interactions with Supergirl.

Its script is fine, it’s very much on par with its predecessor. The only thing worse is its song choices as the music just isn’t memorable and doesn’t have a moment like “punkrocker”.

If you’ve seen the trailer, you know what you’re in for and it shouldn’t be a shock. it’s colour grading is the exact same as Superman except it’s been inverted for warm tones instead of cool, neither are particularly colourful.

The most bizarre Black Canary era

So I ended up buying the paperback I posted online from here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/168444566144 collecting BCS 90s material and it’s oddly cohesive but very unfocused too.

Its runs partly alongside the Mike Grell Green Arrow run, exploring BC as a semi-detective as various writers explore social-political issues such as rigged elections and classism.

Theres an odd emphasis on the last few issues here on “white slavery“ by two completely unrelated writers.

I do think the BW colouring works for the setting as it’s mostly noir material. I can’t say the material is great as storylines never really conclude( I much prefer the storylines from actions comics).

I do think it’s worthwhile for the progression however especially if you’ve read the Green Arrow DCs finest.

Does anyone remember when SMG was attached to play Alice in the 00s?

She was attached to it for years in the 2000s/ was a massive fan of the first game to the point it was rumoured she owned the film rights.

It’s a shame the tv show in development was cancelled recently too-The last guy(David Hayter) they brought in to develop the concept and pitch it added time travel and had it set in modern day London-that pitch failed.

This Ip is full of bad luck.

All Tomb Raider(Amazon) outfits so far.

I’m not sure if the classic one will actually be in the show so far since we’ve seen no images of it used in actual filming.

it might have just been a screen test outfit.

Opinions on the parallel narrative between Amanda and Amelia? SPOILERS

Lara has to leave Peru to save herself rather than risk drowning by staying any longer for Amanda leading to Amandas obvious grudge(despite her saying otherwise).

Its very clear in Underworld that her telling the Merc Cap to leave her stranded by blowing up the place is intended to evoke the fate she felt Lara left her too. As she is then left blocked by boulders.

Lara is indirectly responsible for both of their fates as she interferes in the Dais portal- mentioning herself as her (Amelia) “daughter“ and then shooting whatever remained of her in Hellheim.

I love this era- The New WW 189

Halfway through the omnibus and this has to be one of my top three runs with William Loebs and Azzarello. It’s never boring- goes from globe trotting adventuress to sword and sorcery to kung fu exploitation in the vein of Kill Bill.

I love the Marston stuff too but unfortunately the very overt racism and sameiness prongs it down a peg. Etta is definitely the stand out character and it’s a shame every writer since has not gotten her being before her time in body positivity etc.

Opinions on Rob Kanigher’s run? (Image from WW Omnibus #1)

His work gets a lot of dislike for WW but what are your opinions? considering he’s her longest running writer by far.

We've all seen the recent Jeph Loeb story wherein she slaughters her Amazon sisters for the contest. Threatens Selina menacingly and otherwise Is in the vein of Xena etc.

She now has a dedicated editorial team who are meant to oversee matters as this. Should the sword and shield be dropped? along with a return to Aphrodite’s golden age law of no killing?

The armour she now wears probably complicates matters as writers see it as a visual indicator that she's a blood thirsty warrior at times. should a visual redesign be in order?

Are you happy with her current portrayals? I feel like Absolute can have the warrior angle personally whilst returning Diana to a paragon of peace(mostly).
