Recorded my sunset session at Hostal La Torre, Ibiza yesterday!

I played the sunset session at Hostal La Torre yesterday and recorded the full thing. It starts gently and properly coastal, then slowly works its way through dub, ambient-leaning Balearica, odd little left turns, some familiar voices and eventually a bit of Italian pop vibes, and wonky disco .

There is new music in there from George Solar, Lonely Deckchair, Visions Of Light and Balaphonic, alongside Pacific Coliseum, Chris Coco, Jura Soundsystem, Coyote, Pet Shop Boys, Sade, SAULT, Jean Carn and plenty more.

Hope some of you enjoy the selections.

Roots Artefact Interview I NuNorthern Soul Artist Q&A

NuNorthern Soul has just released Rocking Boat EP by Roots Artefact, the project of Tallinn-based producer Saimon.

It’s a six-track EP sitting somewhere between dub, reggae-rooted production, downtempo, Balearic warmth and spacious, effects-heavy sound design. Steady basslines, crisp drums, electric piano, guitar touches, coastal textures and plenty of delay/reverb throughout.

Saimon comes from a deep reggae and dub background, and you can really hear that foundation in the way the tracks are built. It’s not polished club music, more a warm, rolling, dubwise listen for slow afternoons, Sunday mornings, coastal walks, or those moments when you want something with weight but not too much pressure.

To go with the release, we also did a Q&A with Saimon about Tallinn studio life, King Tubby, dub culture, and how his sound found its way into the NuNorthern Soul world.

Would love to know what people think, especially anyone into dub, Balearic, downtempo or reggae-influenced electronic music.

Phat Phil Cooper explore The Other Side of the Island.

Phat Phil Cooper heads out for another local walk on the NuNorthern Soul vlog, taking a route through the port of Ibiza and following the coastline towards the lighthouse.

Along the way, Phil takes in a few street art spots dotted around the route, adding another layer to this local wander through the harbour, backstreets and lesser-seen corners of the town.

From the lighthouse, the walk continues up to the old gun pits, with views looking back across the port, Talamanca and the surrounding coastline. It’s a slower, more local side of Ibiza — away from the obvious postcard version of the island — taking in the history, the views, the sea air and a few thoughts along the way.

Part walk, part island diary, part Balearic wander, this episode is another glimpse into Phil’s life on Ibiza and the places that sit just beyond the usual tourist trail.

The Other Side of the Ib iza I Dalt Vila to the Cathedral & Beyond

Phat Phil keeps things local in this latest vlog, taking a walk up through Dalt Vila, Ibiza’s historic old town, and heading all the way to the Cathedral at the top.

From there, he takes in the incredible views across Ibiza Town, Figueretes and out towards Formentera, with another sweep of the island looking towards the airport and the Playa d’en Bossa skyline, where venues like Ushuaïa sit in the background.

Part of The Other Side of the Island series, this is a simple local wander through familiar streets, historic corners and everyday Ibiza — a reminder that some of the best views and moments are right on the doorstep.

The Other Side of the Island I Lighthouse to Abandoned Hotel & Street Art I Ibiza

I headed out on a slower walk along Ibiza’s north coast recently, following the Crystal Coast trail near Portinatx. The route shifts between rugged cliffs, open sea views and quieter inland paths, and it really shows a side of the island that feels miles away from the usual Ibiza stereotypes.

Along the way I stopped at Faro de Punta Moscarter — the tallest lighthouse in the Balearics — sitting right on the edge of the island, then passed through Cala d’en Serra and the abandoned hotel there, now layered in street art and graffiti. Ibiza has this strange balance sometimes… raw nature, forgotten spaces and creative energy all existing together naturally.

No real agenda, no rush, just walking and taking it in. It reminded me how much there is to the island beyond the surface-level image people usually associate with it.
