I work in IB and some of the networking messages I see from students are pretty insane.

Stop asking for jobs in the first message, stop copy-pasting “I’d love to hear about your journey” to 300 people and then wondering why nobody replies.

And please, don’t do whatever the guy in this screenshot is doing. Networking isn’t that complicated. Just be normal, know who you’re messaging, and give them a reason to reply

Started renting out clothes I never wear a few months back, mostly out of boredom, not some big money plan.

Grabbed a blazer and a suit I'd worn once each, snapped some quick pictures on my phone, listed them on HURR for cheap.

I've recently discovered that 'renting a friend' is in fact a real thing.

There are platforms such as RentAFriend.com that allow people to pay for virtual companionship, that is to say, someone with whom they can talk, chat, play games or simply have company online.

Initially I thought it was one of those fake side jobs you come across all over the internet, but it turns out that people actually do pay for this type of service.

The funny thing is that you don’t actually need a complicated arrangement or a product to sell; at times the “product” is merely your time and your conversation.

The internet has now reached the stage at which being a good conversationalist can be turned into a side activity.
