Talking to a woman for 6 weeks, texting has slowed down noticeably. Healthy slow burn or losing interest?

I’m a 26M who’s been talking to a 29F for about 6 weeks. We live in different states (I’m in NC and she’s in Colorado), and we both work in the mental health field.

We’ve developed what I feel is a pretty strong connection. We’ve talked about family, spirituality, music, childhood, careers, relationships, dreams, etc. We’ve also had one 25-minute phone call that was great.

Early on, we were texting 4–5 times throughout the day, pretty much every day. There was a lot of enthusiasm, flirting, questions, sharing pictures, and generally getting to know each other. It felt like we were both really excited about the connection.

We’ve actually talked about wanting a soul-level connection eventually, but we both agree that we want to take a slow-burn approach. Neither of us wants to rush into something intense. We want to build trust, safety, comfort, and genuinely get to know each other first.

Over the last 10 days or so, I’ve noticed a pretty significant change. We’re now sometimes only having 1–2 exchanges a day, and her messages have generally become shorter. She’s still warm when she responds, still asks about my life, calls me cute/cutie, shares personal things, and seems engaged in the conversation. So it’s not like she’s suddenly cold or ignoring me completely.

She’s also had a lot going on recently with work and finishing her supervised hours and licensing exam, so I know she could genuinely just have less bandwidth.

The confusing part is that the change happened pretty noticeably. I’m trying not to overanalyze individual texts or assume the worst, but I can’t help noticing that the communication isn’t what it was during the first month.

I just got back from a long trip and was thinking about asking if she’d want to have another phone call or maybe video chat. I don’t want to do it as a way of seeking reassurance or trying to force the old texting frequency back. I genuinely just miss talking to her and would like to hear her voice again.

For people who have experienced this kind of thing: does this sound like a normal transition from the initial excitement into a more sustainable rhythm, or would you interpret the decrease in frequency/length as a sign that interest is fading?

I’m trying to remind myself that a slow burn isn’t necessarily going to have the same intensity every week. At the same time, I don’t want to use “slow burn” as an excuse to ignore a genuine change in someone’s interest.

What would you do in my position

Two Pisces, both in mental health, talking for 6 weeks — is this what a slow burn is supposed to feel like?

I’m a 26M Pisces Sun, Libra Moon, Virgo Rising, and I’ve been talking to a 29F who is also a Pisces Sun and Libra Moon, Taurus Rising. We’ve been talking for about 6 weeks now.

We both work in the mental health field, which is something we’ve connected over. We’ve had a lot of really deep conversations about family, spirituality, music, childhood, our careers, dreams, relationships, etc. We’ve also had one 25-minute phone call that felt really natural.

She lives in Colorado and I live in North Carolina, so there’s some distance involved. Neither of us has rushed anything, though. We’ve actually talked pretty openly about both wanting a soul-level connection eventually, but we both feel like a slow burn is the healthiest way to get there. building trust, safety, comfort, and really getting to know each other instead of rushing into intense attachment.

The first 4-ish weeks were pretty intense texting-wise. We were usually talking 4–5 times throughout the day, and there was a lot of excitement and enthusiasm. She was affectionate and flirty, and we were constantly learning new things about each other.

Over the last couple of weeks, though, the texting frequency has noticeably decreased. Now I’m sometimes getting only 1–2 exchanges a day, and her messages have generally become shorter. She’s still warm with me, asks about my life, calls me cute/cutie, shares personal things, and engages when we talk, so it’s not like she’s completely withdrawn. But I can definitely feel a difference compared with the first month.

She’s also had a lot going on lately with work and finishing her supervised hours/licensing exam, so I know there are legitimate reasons she could have less bandwidth.

I just got back from a long trip and have been thinking about asking if she’d want to have another phone call or maybe video chat. I don’t want to chase reassurance or try to force the connection back to how intense it was in the beginning. At the same time, I don’t want to ignore a change if it actually means something.

I’m trying to remind myself that slow burn doesn’t mean constant intensity. Maybe we’re just settling into a more natural rhythm after the initial excitement.

For other Pisces: Have you experienced something similar? Do Pisces/Pisces connections tend to start intensely and then settle down? And how do you distinguish a healthy slow burn from someone gradually losing interest?

I’m really trying to let this develop organically because I genuinely like her, and I’d rather build something safe and lasting than rush it just because the initial chemistry was intense.

Thanks in advance for any advice and perspective:)

Anyone else a huge fan of this album?

This record is always on rotation for me. Favorite song would definitely be “If I knew then”
