For those upset about the lack of paragraph breaks a tldr : fired and they tried to say it was because of misconduct, state said nah and now I’ll get my paltry unemployment crumbs yay 😀

Made decent money at the place but they were kind of bumbling idiots who didn’t pay a whole lot of attention to their business. I know several other employees were not happy there either. Two others gave their two week notice the day I was fired. Mind you I was fired while out of town for a family thing, not told I was fired, just taken off the schedule. When I asked why I was ghosted. So I applied for unemployment which I knew they would contest and they did alleging misconduct which was bullshit. Waited patiently on adjudication and just found out they never responded to the fact finding about misconduct but switched it to at-will employment policy (yeah I live in one of those shitty states - edit : apparently all states are at will except for Montana, weird for a red state). It’s not some giant amount of money but it will help since I’ve been dipping into savings and selling possessions on eBay or marketplace. Also ditched my expensive ACA health plan (made more expensive by me estimating a higher income based on work schedule last year which they promptly cut my hours at the first of the year) and qualified for food stamps which helped a lot. Place was a dumpster fire and they expected full time availability while only giving part time hours. While looking for a job I keep seeing job postings from there every week. I’d like to know how bad it is now and I will prob reach out to some people I know who still work there eventually, I didn’t want to while waiting on unemployment. I feel like I do have friends there but you never know if you’ll get backstabbed. Separately this summer has been a blast taking it easy and doing fun stuff I never would have had the time for and I’ve gotten tons of stuff done around my house. Oh and I filed a complaint because they wouldn’t pay out for a sick day that I had plenty of earned time for from about a month before getting fired. I’ll take whatever I can get.

So the auto sleep feature (when you don’t hit the sleep button the phone used to turn the phone screen off after 15-20 seconds) doesn’t seem to work anymore. Yes I tried changing the settings which were already set to auto sleep the phone after whatever the shortest duration of time was. Because my phone is an 11 I allow it to auto update the apps but not the OS. It won’t auto sleep anymore and even if I press the shut down button on the side and walk away when I pick it back up the screen is on. Not sure if it’s because it gets a notification and just turns back on and won’t auto sleep or what. Maybe it’s because it’s an older phone? But low key starting to think it’s not a bug but a force feature of “upgrade your phone”. Currently running 26.2 OS but tired of picking up my phone and having it be almost dead because of this.

My friend decided he was done riding his Harley and sold it. He had sellers remorse almost immediately and the guy that bought it almost crashed leaving his house. This was about three months ago. Two days ago he gets a phone call from the police that the motorcycle ran from the police in three different jurisdictions. Luckily the runners face was visible and on camera so the cops knew it wasn’t him, he’s kit facing legal trouble. The guy he sold it to ditched the bike and it’s in impound and the officer he talked to said he’s still the legal owner of the bike. So he’s wondering if he goes to the impound can he take the bike back to keep or sell again?

So I’ve always been a night owl. I could be tired all day but once evening hits I’m wired and awake till 1-4am. I was even born after 2am lol. This has been torturous for my work life tho I’ve mostly stuck with jobs that don’t require an early wake time since I’m just miserable and grouchy if I have to be woken up by an alarm. I’m also diagnosed ADHD (was dx as a kid in the 80s and took Ritalin for a few years, redx 2 1/2 years ago and currently taking adderall).

But I have noticed there is one thing that gets me to sleep early at least some of the time tho it’s not at all feasible for getting me to sleep every night. That one thing is when I’m away from home like for a family event, staying in an environment that’s not my own home or a hotel I will get sleepy and just go to bed early. The only thing I can think of as to why this works is that I’m not in my own space with all the creature comforts or distractions I’m used to having. I’m a bit of a pack rat (tho not a hoarder thankfully) so my space is def not minimalist at all. When I’m away from home my surroundings usually are much more minimalist than my own home. Currently I’m nearly unemployed (lost my main job but still have my side gig that’s only 2 days a week) so I’ve been selling off stuff to generate money since I buy/sell/ flip stuff anyway for extra money as a side hustle. I’ve been hoping to pare down stuff so my surroundings can be a bit more minimalist and maybe that would help with my bed times?

Does anyone else have this or can tell me why this seems to work when nothing else has? It’s almost like the stuff in my visual field occupies my brain making it hard to turn off at the end of the day. My bedroom is def my most minimalist room in the house, just my bed a night stand, clothes hamper and two large closets for clothes and other storage but the doors are closed. But even when I go to bed and my eyes are closed in a dark room my thoughts still often won’t shut off. Any insights welcome 🙏

So I opened a Roth this year in early April and maxxed it out for 2025 ($7000) then funded another $5000 for 2026. I had been dumping money into it to try and get it funded for 26 as quick as possible then I was going to build my savings up in my bank accounts to prep for the 2027 contributions and also to shore up my available funds for life, emergencies ect. Unfortunately I lost my main job a couple weeks ago tho I still have a little 1099 side gig but that doesn't earn me much. I've been applying for jobs and applied for unemployment (not sure if I'm getting it yet) which wont be much but would keep most of my bills paid. I'm also selling off stuff I don't need anymore on facebook marketplace and ebay so thats brought in a little money and I've applied for medicaid because my ACA insurance plan is my second most expensive bill. Doing all that I can to stave off raiding my Roth but if I had to pull a few thousand out of it what are my penalties or taxes that might be due? To be clear I don't plan on draining it and I know if I pull out the gains I'd have to pay taxes on that but what penalties would be involved for just pulling out a few thousand?

So this is going to be a complicated set of questions due to the nature of my jobs so here goes

I had two jobs but lost the one that was my highest source of income. That job had an hourly rate plus tips earned there but it fluctuates wildly depending on time of year and whether or not, or how many weekend shifts I got.

Second job is a 1099 gig I’ve had for a long time though Covid basically ruined how much I earn, that is why I had to get another job. Suffice to say that job only earns me about $100 a week while the other was good for $400-700 a week.

When I filed the claim I did some rough calculating and following the reported an average amount of earnings from my highest earning quarter out of the last 5 quarters. I did not include the earnings from my other job since I still have that one and since it’s a 1099 I didn’t think those earnings mattered for determining benefit amount and you can’t get unemployment for 1099 jobs unless maybe we get another pandemic.

The rough calculations I did were just by using paystubs and adding up the paychecks and tipped amounts to get a rough quarterly earning divided by 12 for 12 weeks in each quarter and I then selected the highest earning quarter to base my weekly benefit amount off of.

I guess my questions are

Did I do the calculating correctly by method above?

Should I have added in the income from the 1099 job even tho I’m still working that one?

When they say quarters do I just use the earnings from the week I stopped earning and go 12 weeks back from there? Or are the quarters basically Jan, Feb, March then April, May, June ect?

I certified today but think I may have to call and amend my answers because of the earnings from the 1099 job but wondering if anyone has some knowledge in how to determine weekly benefit amounts since I do the math again and try to amend my weekly benefit if it winds up that my math is way off while I have them on the phone.

So I lost my main job this week. I do have a second little 1099 side hustle that’s good for about $400 a month which is only a little over half my mortgage cost and I have some savings I can dip into. My ACA premium ended up being my second highest monthly bill because I estimated my income higher and because of Trump screwing those of us that use the program.

My question is can I switch to Medicaid halfway through the without having to worry about paying back the subsidy? I’m applying for Medicaid today but obviously won’t have an approval decision before my premium is due on July 1st, so I will probably have to pay my July premium. It would hurt financially to have to keep paying this inflated amount for the premium till the end of the year when I’m no longer making anywhere near that but I don’t want to create an even bigger financial headache come tax time. Any insight appreciated thanks 🙏

I’m in Michigan and plan on applying tmro but with only 6 days left in the month will I still have to pay for next months premium because there isn’t enough time to apply, get approved and cancel my ACA plan so I won’t have to pay back my subsidy for next month? Is there any reason I’d have to pay back the subsidy from January through June? Because I really can’t afford that.

Other pertinent info, I have another little 1099 job but it only brings in around $400 a month. Can I be earning too little money to even qualify for Medicaid? Hoping unemployment will go through but betting my former employer will fight it so it’s a crap shoot. I’m also listing stuff to sell on eBay to bring in some more money. I’m a bit worried as I don’t have a lot in savings, I had been earning ok money but opened a Roth IRA and was socking money into it to the tune of $12k, really wish I still had the grand I put into it a couple weeks ago but I should be able to afford life for the next 2-3 months without a problem but really hoping the unemployment goes through.
