Recently i've been experiencing lag in my games, (dota 2 and dark souls 3). And upon checking, my power mode keeps going back to best power efficiency. How do I lock this to best performance?

In my MSI Center M, I used the manual profile and set both to its max. In my BIOS its also in Performance mode.

I have the Legion Pro 7 16IRX9H i9-14900 rtx 4080.

A couple days ago it started getting hotter than normal, then one morning while gaming, it started lagging. It turns out that I was already experiencing thermal throttling.

I used MSI afterburner, cpu temp was reaching 100degs, and mostly staying at 95 98, even on idle.

Even if I just started the laptop, without having done anything yet, temp spikes to 80 then to 90. Then when I open even just one folder, it immediately goes to 95 then to 100.

I already reset the laptop, deleted everything, still the same issue.

Brought it to 1st shop, they said it could be the thermal assembly.

Brought it to lenovo service center, they said its the mobo that is the problem.

Brought it to another lenovo service center, again, mobo.

Shops already tried the burn test, they ran a program that pushes your gpu to the max, but we did not encounter any shutdowns. He just said, its hard to fix intermittent errors like that. It must be the mobo.

We already checked and replaced the thermal pastes. Used duronaut grizzly. We even tried replacing the liquid metal used in the cpu with thermal paste. It somewhat helped? The initial temp is now 60 to 70, but immediately spikes to 90 to 100 upon opening some folders.

But the thing is, even if it reaches those temps, my fans always blow cool air.

First they said that mobo is the issue. Because probably the sensors are damaged. But when the temp spikes, you can hear and feel that the fans are getting louder. But still with cool air.

They also said that maybe my ssd was the issue, because it was reaching alarming temps as well. But isnt that because the heat isnt escaping. Thus the cpu is them heating the whole motherboard???

They both just said, it cannot be because of the thermal assembly, because they never had any problems before with thermal assembly. Its the mobo. But they never tried using another one, probably because its rarely available here.

But before i went to shops, I tried asking AI, and it said that it could be the thermal assembly, as my laptop model has this vapor chamber. Which means that there is a small amount of liquid inside the cooling pipes that evaporates and condensates which is the one that delivers heat out.

I dont know. You guys got ideas with this? I dont know if it really is a mobo issue, or guys in shops dont have any idea ablut this kind of laptop. Just automatically, blame it on the mobo, type of thing. I dunno.

I tried inquiring for a new thermal assembly, and it is around 200usd 🥲

Bakit hindi siya ganong kasikat? Maganda din naman specs nya. Marami ding reviews na solid sya. Marami din reviews na in favor of msi claw compared to rog xax.

Dito kasi sa mall samin, yung mga tech stores puro xax yung model units. Walang may msi claw, though for sale din naman sya. And wala din gaanong shops/ online shops na nagtitinda ng accessories ng claw, tulad nalang ng usong brand yung JSAUX, wala pala silang pang msi. 😅

I have the Lenovo Legion Pro 7 16IRX9H. Rtx 4080 i9-14900HX.

These past few days napapansin ko na tumataas na yung usual gpu temp (chinecheck ko lang dun sa task manager) ko while gaming, from dati na bagong linis na 70deg ngayon umaabot na ko sa 80-85deg. Tapos dati mabilis ko siyang napapalamig pababa sa 49deg bago ko ishutdown, then unti unti hindi ko na mapababa don na most of the time nagsstay nalang ako sa 60-55deg.

Then one morning, kakabukas ko pa lang ng laptop, pansin ko parang ang lag na nya. Then nung naglaro na ko, ayun sobrang lag na nya and nagstart na mag flicker screen nya (naka external monitor).

I used MSI afterburner to check temps, my cpu temp was reaching 95 to 100 deg sa pag open pa lang ng mga basic apps. Even on idle minsan nag sspike siya to 85. Wala pa akong ginagawa nyan. Yung gpu and other components, umiinit na din pero not like that temp naman.

Yung fans nya, malakas naman yung buga. Mapapansin mo din na nag aadjust sya ng buga nya kapag nag sspike na yung temps.

Ang kaso lang, umaandar nga ng ayos yung fans, pero ang lamig naman ng buga sa gilid. As in parang hindi nga nya nahihigop or naabsorb yung init sa gitna, kaya natatrap lang siya sa gitna yung init.

Dinala ko na sya sa repair shop, ang sabi thermal assembly need palitan.

Dinala ko sa lenovo service center, motherboard daw ang problema.

Dinala ko sa isa pang lenovo service center, motherboard din po ang tinuturo nilang issue.

Napalitan naman na po ng thermal pastes to. Duronaut grizzly gamit ko, yung tig 700pesos sa datablitz.

Sinuggest din nila na try palitan ng thermal paste yung liquid metal ng cpu, baka makatulong, same same pa din.

Kung motherboard man nga po, eh bakit malamig yung buga ng hangin nya sa gilid?

Kumonsulta na din ako sa AI (si chatgpt at gemini), sabi nila yun nga sa heatsink, baka daw nagkaron ng microscopic crack at nawala yung liquid sa loob ng copper tubes, kase apparently, itong model daw ng laptop ay may vapor chamber. Na kahit daw walang visible bends or cracks sa copper tubes nya, e baka daw nag evaporate nang tuluyan yung liquid sa loob na siyang nagtatransfer ng heat.

Pinatry din sakin ng ai na mag install ng throttlestop na app, para daw madisable yung turbo mode ng cpu, para macheck kung tama ba yung voltage supplied to cpu while idle, and ayun narule out naman nya yung issue na yon.

Naexperience nyo na rin po ba ito?

1yr palang kasi sa akin tong laptop, and ang hirap tanggapin kung mobo nga ang problem. Since wala na sya sa warranty, ang new mobo is around the same price na ng bagong laptop.

Yung heatsink / thermal assembly naman, pina inquire ko sa shop, nasa 14k daw.

Hi all. I have the legion pro 7. My problem is that my cpu and gpu temps are always high. Like, when I start my laptop, my CPU temp is immediately at 90 and suddenly spikes to 98 99 100 then back to 90, 95, you get it. The GPU as well starts at 50 then slowly climbs to 80, without me doing anything.

I already sent it to shops for inspections, they already repasted, checked the liquid metal, even checked the heat sink if there are broken or bent cooling pipes, nothing. Even the fans are all clean.

Also when laptop is running, the fans are blowing off cool air while the bottom part of my laptop is strikingly hot.

They say that the issue is most likely a motherboard problem already. And I'm out of warranty.

Is this the end for me?
