Bengaluruuu... where 2 km can feel like a 2-hour journey

Just a normal day in Bengaluruu....

Just booked my bus to travel back to my hometown, Hyderabad. And of course, it started pouring around 6:30 PM in Kadubesanahalli.

I booked an Uber to my bus stop, which is near Prestige Tech Park. The moment I got into the Uber, I casually peeked at the driver's phone and saw the map covered in maroon. Not red. MAROON. 💀

I immediately thought, Yeah… I'm fucked.

And sure enough, we got stuck in traffic like everyone else.

The bus stop was barely 2-3 km away, but somehow I was already convinced I was going to miss my bus.

While sitting there, I started noticing all the little scenes happening around me.

One guy was doing serious multitasking...laptop on his lap, terminal commands running, one hand on the steering wheel.....

Another guy was on a call with his girlfriend, explaining that he'd be late....

Then I saw a girl casually sketching on her tablet like this was the most peaceful evening ever....

Meanwhile, I'm sitting in the back with my headphones on, enjoying my music, while my Uber driver has his eyes glued to the road, desperately trying to find a way through the traffic.

And somewhere in the back of my mind, I'm thinking...

"Should I raise a PR for the code changes I made today?"

Because apparently even Bangalore traffic can't stop the corporate brain. 😂

Then I saw people pouring out of the tech park, all trying to get home. Some were booking cabs, some were running towards buses, everyone just trying to escape Bengaluru's evening chaos.

Eventually, somehow, my driver made it to my stop. I gave him a little tip and sent him off.

And then I looked around…

My entire colony from my hometown seemed to be standing at that bus stop. 😂

People everywhere, booking cabs, waiting for buses, trying to get back home.

And me?

I'm sitting there thinking, Should I open my laptop? I haven't completed my shift yet. 💀

Then I remembered there was water dripping from the roof of the bus stop.

So yeah… I'm not risking my MacBook for a job that will still be there tomorrow. 😂

Instead, I opened Reddit and started writing this.

Bengaluru, you won this round.

Now let me just get on this bus and go home. 🚌🌧️

Guidance - Preparation for J.P. Morgan SE II L1 – Big Data

Hi everyone, I wanted to know what topics I should prepare for the Software Engineer II (Big Data, Spark, SQL, Python, AWS) L1 interview at J.P. Morgan. Any guidance on the interview process and commonly asked questions would be greatly appreciated. Also is DSA is mandatory?

Thanks in advance.

Deloitte USI Data Engineer – Databricks II Interview Questions

Hello Everyone,

I had a discussion around for Data Engineer – Deloitte USI (Databricks II) interview and wanted to share questions asked.

The interview was mostly focused on the candidate's project, architecture, and Databricks/Spark fundamentals. Some of the questions were:

  • Why Delta Lake?
  • Optimization techniques in Spark/Databricks
  • OPTIMIZE — what it actually does and when you would use it
  • Why do small files get created?
  • Shuffling and how to minimize it
  • AQE (Adaptive Query Execution)
  • What Spark version are you using?
  • How do you decide Spark/job configuration for a particular workload?
  • What file formats are you using for input and output, and why?
  • Which SCD you are using how is it implemented
  • Given a DataFrame, write PySpark code to find the highest and lowest salary without duplicates.
  • There was also a question which data model you have used and how many tables are there.

On the surface, most of these questions seem fairly basic for someone already working extensively with Databricks. However, I think questions like “Which Spark version are you using?” and “How do you decide the configuration for a particular job?” can become quite important for someone transitioning from traditional ETL tools such as Informatica/Ab Initio, moving from another cloud/data platform, or coming from a support/monitoring-oriented project where they haven't been involved much in Spark configuration and architecture decisions.

In my case, after following the Medallion Architecture, I explained that our final/Gold data is written as Parquet files and then loaded into Amazon Redshift because our workload is more analytical and Redshift is the downstream data warehouse.

When asked about Delta Lake, I explained that Delta is built on top of Parquet and provides additional capabilities such as ACID transactions, schema enforcement/evolution, time travel, and better reliability for data-lake workloads.

I tried to explain why our current architecture uses Parquet instead of Delta, but I got the feeling that the interviewer wasn't completely satisfied with the answer.

Workplace crush: Should I make a move or keep it professional?

Hello everyone,

I am a guy of 26, originally from Hyderabad, and have been working in Bangalore for the past 4 years.

When I first joined my company, I developed a crush on a girl from my team. I was (and still am) quite introverted, so I never really gathered the courage to talk to her much. Before I knew it, she moved to a different project and shift, so I hardly saw her anymore. I used to wonder almost every day, "Did she come to the office today?"

A couple of months ago, things changed. I moved to a project that's in the same department as hers, so now we cross paths more often.

Whenever we are scheduled to be in the office on the same day, I genuinely look forward to it. If I get the chance, I ask her to join me for an evening coffee break, and she usually says yes. I enjoy every second of those conversations, admiring her and even though... we're both quiet most of the time. Being an introvert, I often don't know what to talk about.

There have also been times when I got the chance to sit next to her and chat when no one else was around in the evening. I build up all my courage to do it, we exchange a few words, then an awkward silence follows... and eventually I just excuse myself and leave.

Though I have her number, but I have only ever messaged her about work. She usually replies later, which is completely fine, but I have avoided texting her outside of work because I don't want to come across as another coworker randomly sliding into her DMs.

Lately, I find myself thinking about her a lot. She's often the first person that comes to mind when I wake up and the last person I think about before going to sleep. I catch myself imagining what it would be like if we were together...cooking for her, going on evening walks, dropping her home safely after work, and just spending time together doing ordinary things. It's reached a point where I really want to know if there's a chance this could become something more, rather than just wondering "what if" forever.

Now I'm confused.

Should I just enjoy the time we spend together whenever we are in the office, or should I propose her ? If I do, what's the best way to do it without making things awkward, especially since we are colleagues?

Has anyone here been in a similar situation? I would really appreciate your advice.

P.S. I am from originally from Hyderabad, and she's from Udupi. (coastal Karnataka) I am not sure if our different backgrounds matter, but I thought I would mention it. Feel free to DM for any advice. Kindly don't comment "Don’t hookup where you vlookup. Work place relationships can be really messy etc."

Trying out my luck on reddit

Keeping it short and simple :)

26M | Hyderabad

Data Engineer by profession, Hyderabadi by birth, and a fan of badminton, cricket, and chai.

Here I am, hoping to meet someone who believes the best relationships start with good conversations and end with "When are we telling our parents?"

Trying my luck here to start with a conversation, exchange memes, grab chai, and see where things go. If we get along, that's a win.

Feel free to drop a DM!

PS: Chai recommendations are always welcome.

Why does it feel like men have to carry conversations on dating apps? (Genuine question)

Hi everyone,

I'm a guy of 26 working in tech and have been living in Bangalore for the past few years.(basically from Hyd)

I have never been in a relationship or dated anyone. Honestly, I never felt I was missing out until recently. My colleagues at work kept teasing me with questions like, "You look good, why don't you have a girlfriend?" Then seeing couples everywhere made me wonder what it would actually be like to experience a relationship someday. (Also, it would be nice to have some funny stories to tell future kids :)

So I finally gave dating apps a try.

To my surprise, I did get a few matches. But almost every conversation followed the same pattern:

I sent the first message.

I asked the questions.

I kept the conversation going.

Replies were usually short, and if I stopped texting, the conversation simply ended.

After a few similar experiences, I unmatched, deleted the apps, and figured maybe online dating just isn't for me.

So my question to the women here is:

Is this how dating apps generally work from your perspective? Do women usually expect men to lead the conversation, or is it simply that if someone is genuinely interested, they will put in equal effort regardless of gender?

I would genuinely like to understand the other side rather than assume anything. Maybe I am missing something or had unrealistic expectations.

Looking forward to hearing your perspectives. If anyone prefers sharing their experience instead of in the comments, my DMs are open.

Finding my Luck Here

Hey everyone!

Thought I would put myself out here and see where it goes.

I am 25, from Hyderabad, and work in tech. One thing about me is that I get bored staying in one place for too long, so every now and then I head to Bangalore and work from the office for a few days and come back. I guess I enjoy switching cities once in a while, it keeps life a little more interesting.

Personality-wise, I am more of an introvert, simple boy. I usually take time to open up, but once I am comfortable, I enjoy good conversations and spending time with people. Lately, I have been trying to step out of my comfort zone and meet new people instead of just sticking to my routine.

One funny thing about me, I still don't really know how to talk to girls. I'm trying my best, though, so if I come across as awkward at first, that's probably why.

Outside work, I enjoy exploring cafes, trying different food, watching movies, going on long drives, and recently I have become obsessed with finding good cold coffee spots. If you know any hidden gems in Bangalore, I am all ears.

I would like to meet people, make meaningful connections, and see where things go naturally. If you believe in supporting each other, growing together, and building something meaningful, we will get along well.

If this resonates with you, feel free to send me a message :)

Finally Joined the Cold Coffee Club ☕

Recently, I visited TRUE BLACK Specialty Coffee in the Hitech City area and finally tried their OG Cold Coffee Creme.

I honestly loved it! It was so good that I actually regretted not trying cold coffee all these years.

If you are someone who's never had cold coffee before, give it a try, you might end up wondering why you waited so long, just like I did.

Also, if you know any cafes that serve amazing cold coffee, please drop your recommendations. I would love to explore more..

Brain is not braining.

I'm 25, from Hyderabad, currently working in Bangalore as a Data Engineer at a decent product-based company (not FAANG or anything, and I'd rather not name it).

For the past few months, I've been trying to switch jobs, but I've failed 10+ interviews. Every rejection chips away at my confidence.

Lately, I feel like I'm just surviving at work rather than actually doing well. Sometimes it feels like I'm overly dependent on Google, ChatGPT, documentation, and other online tools just to get through my day. It makes me wonder if I actually know anything or if I'm just good at finding answers.

On top of that, I'm an introvert. I don't really have many friends here in Bangalore, and being away from home makes the loneliness hit even harder.

I'm honestly feeling frustrated, lonely, and mentally exhausted. It feels like I'm stuck in the same place while everyone else is moving forward.

Has anyone else gone through something similar? How did you get out of this phase? How do you deal with repeated failures, self-doubt, and loneliness?

I'd genuinely appreciate any advice or even just hearing that I'm not the only one.

A random 5-second interaction from 5 years ago still lives rent-free in my head. Am I overreacting?

This is probably one of the most insignificant moments of my life, yet I still think about it every now and then.

About five years ago, I was walking down the street with a friend in the evening. A woman wearing a saree was walking toward us, and I happened to be on the side closest to her.

It was pretty windy. As we passed each other, the loose end of her saree (the pallu) suddenly caught the wind and blew toward me. It brushed against my legs for a split second.

My immediate reaction was to turn around because it caught me off guard. At the exact same moment, she turned around too. We made eye contact.

She had a frown on her face, and I instantly got the feeling she thought I had pulled her pallu. I hadn't touched it at all—it had just blown into me because of the wind. But I completely froze. I didn't explain anything. We both just walked away.

Objectively, I know this was probably a five-second interaction that she forgot almost immediately. But for some reason, my brain hasn't. Every once in a while, it comes back, and I wonder if I should have stopped and said, "It was just the wind."

Was walking away the normal reaction in such an awkward situation? Or should I have tried to explain myself? Am I overreacting by still thinking about this after five years?
