Just wanted to make a post appreciating how much deeper the titles of I/O and O/I are than most people would probably think. The lyrics reflect the album titles very well!

I/O is an album that is, for the most part, lyrically about how we treat other people, and appreciating the world. About how you (the inside) treat the rest of the world (the outside).

Meanwhile O/I is an album where the songs are more about how the state of the world affects and is affecting people (and specifically with a focus on how technology is progressing). About how the rest of the world (the outside) treats you (the inside).

I teach music for 3-5 grade at an elementary school. My morning duty is to monitor the hallways and make sure students coming off the bus are going to the right place. Today I see one of my students, a 4th grade girl, come off the bus carrying a Jibanyan plush. She usually comes up to me before heading to breakfast to show me what she brought (before putting it in her backpack for the rest of the day), since she knows I play video games and she often brings Nintendo themed stuff. When she came up to me I said “oh my gosh, is that Jibanyan? I haven’t seen him in years!”. She looked very confused, and just said very plainly “no this is my new cat plush Dylan. I got him at the dollar store!”. I realized that she, understandably, didn’t know what Yokai Watch was, and just got the plush because it was a cute cat.

So although it was an unfortunate reminder that Yokai Watch has faded into obscurity here in the US, it was still an adorable interaction with a student!

Both announced on Morrissey Central, with Kerching Kerching specifically said to come out in September. No sign of either one.

I know I probably shouldn’t trust what he says at this point, but I was looking forward to those non-album b-sides

I’m not saying the Chocolate And Cheese deluxe was bad… we got tons of unreleased outtakes, many of which had never even been heard of in discussions of rarities. But looking at this new deluxe edition of 12 Golden Country Greats… we got demos of the entire album (plus demos for the songs that didn’t make the album too), tons of outtakes, and the two b-sides from the album’s singles as well as a soundtrack song from the era. And it’s not vinyl-only either!

The Chocolate & Cheese deluxe didn’t even include the b-sides from the era that were actually released on the physical singles (but haven’t made their way to streaming) like Vallejo, There’s A Pig, Bakersfield, etc, and many well-known outtakes of the era were excluded as well. The argument I heard many make at the time was “well most hardcore fans will have all those anyways, best to include the stuff that even they don’t have”, but this new deluxe seems to blow that argument out of the water.

I don’t mean to sound ungrateful, I’m glad we’re getting more unreleased Ween, and I did thoroughly enjoy all the unheard songs bon the C&C deluxe, but I can’t be the only one that feels there was a lot that was unnecessarily left out of it?

I’m a songwriter and have always loved collaborating with other artists. My experience of this has mostly been playing in bands, but I’ve really wanted to expand into songwriting with or for other artists, and have made many unsuccessful attempts over the years. It shocks me the sheer amount of music nowadays with multiple songwriters because what I have found, time and time again, is that the other artist I’m collaborating with just does not care about a song we’re writing together if they aren’t the one steering the ship. So many great songs that have been started, and never finished because the other artist just doesn’t want to pull their weight, and even in some cases, have rewritten the song and finished it themselves without me. The majority of co-written songs and collaborations I’ve done that have actually gotten off the ground have been ones where the song was more or less already complete and all I (or the other artist if I’m the primary writer) had to do was add additional instrumentation. Which is fine, but when I actually want something that’s truly collaborative, it disappoints me when the result doesn’t actually feel like a true collaboration.

I’ve had songwriting sessions with other artists that felt amazing with us both contributing equal to the songwriting process, and then we take a break, agree to meet and work on the song again… and then never do. Meeting to finish the song and/or write other songs is like pulling teeth for them, and the song ultimately ends up being unfinished, and I end up ghosted. This has happened to me more times than I can count at this point. And it makes me wonder, what am I doing wrong? Is it just people afraid to tell me they don’t like my contributions, or that our songwriting doesn’t mesh well? Am I the problem here? What is the secret to actually getting a song that is truly written collaboratively? Does that even exist?

Almost every time I go to the grocery store I use the regular check-out. It’s just so much easier and smoother for me, even if there’s a line ahead of me they generally get through people pretty quickly. The rare time where I do use the self check-out, is when I only have a few items. Like enough to where I may not even have a cart. Unfortunately, when I go to the self check-out I am unfortunately greeted by a massive line and people with carts overflowing with groceries checking out at the self check-out rather than the regular one. Not only does this take much longer for the individual people, but it’s also a lot less smooth of a process for everybody, because errors in scanning items are much more common at self check-out, meaning the employees that are working the self check-out (which at most grocery stores is one person) are constantly running back and forth assisting people. Things like this would be resolved fairly quickly at the normal check-out, but instead they make the entire process of using the self check-out more stressful and take longer. Isn’t it supposed to be the opposite?

I propose that instead of self check-outs we go back to express lane only. 5-10 items maximum for self check-out, otherwise go to the regular check-out. Unfortunately I don’t see many grocery stores actually doing this... Every grocery store in my area encourages the self check-out, usually only keeping one regular check-out lane open and removing the express lanes too. Newer grocery stores that have opened only have 1-2 regular check-outs built, and have expanded self check-outs. Which is a shame, because I don’t think I’ve ever had an experience using regular check-out where I thought “man this is so stressful. I should’ve just used self check-out”. But I sure as hell have thought something similar when using self check-out, even when I’m only buying a few things.

According to the credits of Foreign Tongues, Andrew Watt plays guitar on 8 of the 14 tracks. The Rolling Stones are a band with 2 guitarists, and Mick also has guitar credits on over half the tracks. And Robert Smith contributes guitar to another track as well. When a band has this many guitarists, why would the producer need to contribute any guitar at all?

It’s a pretty dope song, love the g-funk style beat. But I definitely feel like I’ve heard it before. Especially the bass line which I know I’ve heard before. But where? Nothing online I can find about what he sampled, the song isn’t on whosampled, and the google AI that comes up when you google something has thrown out a bunch of suggestions for songs, none of which are correct.

Any ideas?

Went to look up the lyrics of Arrogant Boy and noticed this. Doubt that they’re fake because who on earth would take the time to actually write fake lyrics for the entirety of a late-period Deep Purple album? They seem consistent with Ian’s lyrical style too.

My only question is… who put them there and where did they find them???

Been wondering this since the cover artwork was unveiled. It’s a great album cover, and the additional artwork seen throughout the physical editions is just as good. I’ve seen a lot of people worried that it’s AI art, but the art style is too consistent across all the graphics for me to think it’s AI. It certainly looks human drawn, but it’s a bit weird to me that they haven’t said who did the art yet. The art style reminds me so much of Roger Dean, but I’m sure they would’ve actually revealed it was him if it was, his name alone would be enough to sell some copies.

I saw an instagram comment say the artwork was “a collaboration between Ian Gillan, Olaf Heine, Candy Medusa and Bob Ezrin”, but no source so it obviously could be someone just making shit up. Also as I said the art style is consistent enough that I would be surprised if it was multiple people working together.
