How to disable software updates the easy way

Are you tired of your phone always getting hit with the updates no matter how hard you avoid and delay them? Just for them to auto download while you are sleeping. Then you get prompted endlessly to install it.

Here is how I got rid of them for good:

First, turn on USB debugging on your phone and connect it to your PC

Then, I use a program on windows called "ADB App Control".

I then disable two services inside this application on a PC. These two services are (com.samsung.sdm) & (com.sec.android.soagent).

This will stop Samsung & your carrier from pushing updates to your phone

Note that doing so will remove the function of software update out of the settings menu entirely. It just deactivates everything associated with software updates. That is all.

I did this on my S23Ultra Verizon 512GB

On Android 16 One UI 8

If you cant find com.samsung.sdm it may be named com.wssyncmldm depending on your carrier I believe.

Phone random reboots and shutdowns?

Anyone else experiencing this? What could be the cause of this? On Android 16 One UI 8.0.

That listing from my previous post was removed off Ebay 🎉

Soon to be that sellers Ebay account, when those buyers for those 7 copies of fake Pokemon Emerald file a fraud case against him.

We even had a redditor in this community also mention they got scammed by this exact person on Ebay.

Anyways, wanted to provide a follow-up!

PSA avoid this scam seller on Ebay

Shows authentic pictures of an emerald, but allegedly sends out a reproduction.

Be vigilant & remember if it is too good to be true, it probably is.

4 images attached.

5 victims today already (allegedly) at time of post. Update : 7 victims now

New update: Ebay took down the listing.

(This is not a game verifying post, just a PSA)

Pokemon Emerald - There is Communication via Union Room? WHAT?

I never knew this all these years. Wow. Thought it was just the lame standard greetings only. But pokemon emerald has a typing pad. I guess R/S don't even have a union room so this is emerald exclusive.

Very Cool!

S23 after update

Cheap parts + low quality control + planned obsolescence

Edit : These all started after a single One UI 8 update, and it didn't happen all at once — it gradually got worse every day.

There's not a single scratch on my phone and I have used it with a case from the day I bought it .
I don't remember it falling down for even ones.
The cracked part on screen is screen guard , which was cracked not even from falling on the ground , but from slightly hitting on the table , which I didn't even notice.
it broke two week after the green line started showing up so that is not the cause .

I don't game on my phone , or do any intense tasks . I just use it for calling , texting and 1 - 2 hrs of instagram or other social media apps .

To the people saying its not because of update and it because of my usage, are you saying that the so called flagship s23 cant even handle these tasks

What is causing the pink/green lines?

I've seen it talked about dozens of times now. Is this an inevitable mode of failure? What exactly causes it? I know some people noticed it post update. Would the culprit be excessive heat, with no failsafe to power down while updating?

Do we like the new back cover?

Got my battery replaced about a week ago on my s23 ultra because the battery was expanding.

But then a few days later post-repair, I noticed the old adhesive (that was about 3 years old) was no longer sticky in a certain area. This was after being lifted due to pressure for so long, allowing dirt to get in. So it makes sense.

But now, im rocking a fresh battery and back cover.

Bonus, the back cover on these phones also houses the camera lens covers too, so I was also able to fix the scratch on the oem camera lens. To my surprise.

I guess I'm happy that I disabled all the update services via ADB now

A few months ago, probably around February, I had a hunch so I modified my software with ADB. Blocking updates from both my carrier and Samsung.

Fast forward to now, I've been reading about the lines post update, lag and stutters post update, cameras being worse post update, and most recently bluetooth not working post update to OneUI 8.5.

Anyone else prepare ahead of time for a disaster like this?

My phone is on Android 16 One UI 8.0 forever (unless i factory reset it).

Software Update isnt even in the settings. Not even if you search for it with the search settings.

.

Edit:

Also, I left the google play system update unchanged, so that way I will always be up to date with the app store. It can update.

Currently on April 1st 2026 Google Play System.

For what reason are people putting their S23 in the freezer/refrigerator?

A little background: I've had my S23 Ultra since it first released in February 2023, and just recently finished paying it off.

About a month ago, the original battery started swelling, so I had it professionally replaced. Since the back cover had lifted and the adhesive was no longer providing a good seal, I also replaced the back cover with a new transparent one from an online vendor.

I've noticed the phone can get fairly warm in certain situations, especially while charging or when it's sitting in the car. Recently, I bought an AC vent phone mount, and it has made a huge difference. Even when charging and using Bluetooth, the phone barely gets warm while driving on the mount.

I've also disabled software updates using ADB by turning off the services responsible for checking for updates. I'm currently running Android 16 and One UI 8. My goal is to keep this phone going for as long as possible, and I personally don't trust software updates. Everything is working well right now, and I don't feel the need for new features or changes.

That said, I've seen people putting their S23s in the freezer or refrigerator and I'm curious why. Is there actually a benefit to doing that, or is it just something people do when a phone gets hot?

They keep coming back week after week. Ive destroyed these nests 3 times now

Back window of my house. Just destroyed the nest & them with a very very volatile compound. But not before tapping on the window relentlessly to piss them off!

Duct tape to seal the opening they were getting in as well

I guess I have 4 copies if you include a JP copy.

Yeah, one of the english copies has a replacement label, unfortunately.

I have an English Emerald with pitting on pins 1, 3, and 30

Edit: thanks to JohnnyRa1nbow who helped me realize it isn't pitting, and its actually exposed copper. https://imgur.com/a/7RvoOg3

Copper is conductive, but requires more regular maintenance to clean off the oxidation.

I purchased this on FB Marketplace a while back, and was not informed about dark spots on three of the cartridge pins. I have cleaned with 90% IPA and a white eraser with no improvement, which makes sense as it is physical damage rather than oxidation.

I have a JP Emerald and a skilled technician available if a MROM swap becomes necessary, but I would like to avoid that risk unless absolutely needed.

The cart currently plays and saves without any issues. I am leaving it inserted in the console to minimize insertion/removal wear and to protect the contacts from air (oxidizing).

My concern is whether enough metal remains on those three pins for reliable long term contact with the cartridge slot.

Has anyone dealt with similar dark spots? Am I at risk of failure, or is this likely stable as long as it continues working now & I leave it in the console? Any expert advice would be much appreciated.
