New player and am just wondering what character options exist beyond the core book.
Just finished the ocean layer and felt kind of underwhelmed by the boss. Is it just that if he hits you he throws you onto a random tile?
So with all the discourse surrounding physical video game releases recently I was wondering about whether attempting a print to order model would work for physical game releases for indie games. But im still pretty early in my game dev journey and I dont really know what would go into such an operation. So I would appreciate peoples thoughts on the concept, and just general knowledge into what would have to go into such a release from both the physical production side as well as any potential extra effort that would need to be put in on the code side.
Edit: Clarification as there is some confusion. I am not suggesting an indie developer produce their own physicala as that is impractical. I am suggesting a business in the same vein as drive through rpg for tabletop games, where they act as a platform to sell print on demand products for those that wish to sell them.
So a common problem associated with fighting games (which I admittedly struggle with), and especially modern fighting games, is how high the skill floor is due to how punishing combo mechanics are that can essentially lock new players into the training room, which is an inherently unfun concept. So I am wondering what measures you or other people have come up with to help solve this issue.
For me I have an idea that at round start characters straight up cannot combo and that no moves are able to cancel into each other. Where first you have fill a meter by landing hits or successfully blocking. Once full you could activate that meter you could enter "combo mode" where that allows attacks to cancel into each other. In theory this would lead to a slower paced game with a higher focus on fundamentals that is also better at teaching new players these fundamentals.
Been thinking about Bionicle and Xenoblade recently and was wondering if anyone knew some good settings set on or in some giant beast, creature, machine or etc.
so finally after nearly a year of searching for a full group I have put together a group and just wrapped our first session of stone walkers. and while there were many amazing moments I’m just going to focus on the Veth fight in the highstorm at the end of chapter one.
it started normally enough everyone went fast and they all get set up. (even after warning them about bosses taking two turns a round) with the two combat characters (a leader and a hunter) moving in to shield the back line (an agent and a scholar). and the got some good damage in with Beth returning some with his interrupt attack.
then everything went wrong for them. Veth tore through the front line in his uninterrupted 5 consecutive actions. and while he only performed two attacks then this combined with interrupts all four ended up doing max damage leaving both frontliners down.
i was honestly pretty concerned and was scrambling to figure out how I would save them. But I shouldn’t have doubted both our agent and scholar are expert players and had fully embraced the skill focused nature of the game and began improvising like macguyver.
first the agent grabbed a bag from his inventory and just managed to beat out his physical defense compl blinding him. our scholar then gained advantaged using deduction looking for the best place to use her vial of acid to do the most damage and managed to score an opportunity (as of course all the non attack tests were stakes raised due how desperate the situation) with this I noted a weakness in Veths sword hilt, she seized on this immediately tossing the vial into the sword successfully breaking it.
Veth then went and some poor roles meaning he only just managed to tear the bag off and landing one weak unarmed attack into the agent.
its at this point the agent said the most beautiful words I have ever heard as a gm: “so im going to tie this rope to the tent in my bag”. Now I immediately clocked what he was aiming to do but if it’s unclear just you wait. so I excitedly told him I knew exactly what he wanted to do but he‘d need a slow turn to do it! Our scholar also had caught on and immediately used her turn to give her advantage to him, unfortunately complicating alerting Veth to their plan. Veth spent his final turn desperately fighting the fate that awaited him, but the dice were as cruel to him as the shards that day and could not stay the oncoming disaster.
our agent first succeeded tying Veth to one end of the rope but nearly complicated only saved by the opportunist feat. So as Veth desperately clawed at our agent he finished his plan with one last crafting check to secure the other end of the rope to the aforementioned tent. and lastly he through the tent straight up. directly into the high storm. creating an improvised parachute that in the terrible winds of the high storm immediately caught him and dragged him into a stormy hell from which he would never be seen again.
I love this group and I love this game the best of both I’ve ever played with and I could not have asked for a better end to the session.
So hi long time Star Wars fan, but I never really got high republic personally. But after watching the Zero Company trailer today and am looking to get some more Star Wars on!
Originally I dropped the series because I felt the series was too… clean? Specifically there just wasn’t any friction between the protagonists, everyone just kind of got along with no conflict whatsoever, but that edge is often my favorite part of character interaction. So i want to know what other people feel about that criticism. In my mind Star Wars is a dirty and is at its best when the characters reflect that at least a little.
Also I just want to know the other things that get people excited for this era and its writing style, to see whether this is a project for me or if I should look elsewhere.
Are you going to start talking Blue?
Specifically I mean high fantasy, generally optimistic/humorous, traditional turn based combat, and characters with set "jobs/classes/etc". Some examples I have played being chained echoes and Quartet and sea of stars. And by "modern" lets say no older than 2016. And just to be super specific I am not meaning something like E33 (which takes far more after the "new" ff trends in theming).
Edit: further clarification I am not looking for remasters here. Part of the point of this post is to find newer and or maybe less known things outside of the old classics.
Looking to expand my wargaming horizons with all the 40k stuff going on right now and have really been enjoying making my turnip28 army due to how heavily kitbashing and customization is encouraged. So I’m wondering what other systems really lean into the “these are your dudes” aspect of the hobby. OPR also seems like a good route due to wide customization options, but what else?
Been working my way through a big DC master reading order and have started in on my Green arrow reading with post-crisis. Have had a decent time with it so far (shado is bit uh well you know), but I really like the take on the more vigilantism focused stories (and how that can even be a bit uncomfortable when you think about it) and I think it just has really good edge without falling into cringe like many other books in the era did.
Curious to see what other people thought of it?
Hey so I just found a new indie skirmish game “srungaloids”, but unfortunately due to the stl’s being just a bit to close to the old 40k beaky marines they got cease and desisted. So does anyone know some good replacements I could use? I’m looking myself but I would appreciate the help.
Im kind of overblowing this, its only happened a handful of times and only down to like -1, but I still find it odd.
