Car Accident 650 miles from home. Options for getting my car home after repair?

Just trying to see if I have any options here in a unique situation.

I live in Pennsylvania and carry PA insurance (Penn National). I was in an accident in a very rural part of northern Michigan, and the other driver was found 100% at fault according to their and my insurance company. They're insured with Allstate.

Because Michigan is "no-fault state", my own collision coverage is handling the repair minus my $250 deductible, which is covered by Allstate as a result of Michigan's mini-tort and no-fault laws. Allstate confirmed the mini-tort only covers my deductible, and nothing else.

The car is being repaired in Michigan where the accident occurred, about 650 miles from where I live. Essentially, I am trying to figure out the cheapest and easiest way to get my car home.

I can get a rental car and drive it back to Michigan, but the closest rental car company is an hour from the shop, and there are very few (maybe zero) Ubers/Lyfts that far out. So to retrieve it, I'm looking at a flight or a long drive, a hotel, gas, some kind of hour-long ground transportation to reach the shop, and two days of my time, all out of my own pocket, for a wreck I didn't cause. I don't say this to sound entitled, but rather to provide context to my situation. I'm also considering shipping the car (around $700).

My questions:

  1. Is there any way to recover the travel, lodging, and time costs of retrieving the car from either insurer? I've asked them directly, and they seemed sympathetic, but told me not in this case.
  2. As a PA resident with a PA-insured vehicle, do I have any options that a Michigan state resident wouldn't regarding having either insurance company pay to help me get the vehicle back?
  3. What's the smartest way to handle the actual retrieval: ship the car, fly out and drive it back, or use the rental with a second driver?

Giulia: The Poison Queen of Palermo was one of the best shows I’ve seen in years!

I had the privilege of seeing this show thanks to PAC NYC’s discount ticket programs. It was genuinely one of the best shows I’ve ever seen, and probably top 5 scores I’ve ever heard. The music was banger after banger, and the talent of the cast was INSANE. The writing was great, but definitely could benefit from tightening and trimming. Not a ton, but some of the minor songs not responsible for story development could be trimmed or cut. That said, I do hope they still record them for the cast album, assuming there will be one eventually.

I really hope this show has a future and more people get to see it. I recorded the post-bows song. Such a good experience!

Big day on Broadway for the understudies!

I know it’s a 2-show day for most, which makes this list longer, but wow! So much appreciation for understudies!

Hadestown film super quiet?

Not sure if this was just a my theatre thing or not, but the movie was super quiet and the sound mix was bad. Did anyone else experience that? The band sounded muffled and the dialogue audio was way to quiet.

Burlesque is such a mess

I really want this show to be successful so we can get a Broadway transfer, but they’ve had issue after issue.

What can I do to avoid this going against my insurance?

Sorry in advance if you get a lot of these questions. I accidentally scraped the front fender of my rental and I’m terrified. The whole reason I’m in a rental in the first placeZ is because somebody hit my vehicle in a parking lot in totaled it. I’ve never had anything like this happen before, but I want to do whatever I can to avoid it going against my insurance. This all happened at a time wherever finances are really tight.

Can I pay out of pocket to enterprise? Can I take it to a shop and have it fixed before I return it? How much would enterprise charge me?

Totaled?

2017 Nissan Rogue Sport SV 92,000 miles

Vehicle was hit by a driver who was reversing out of their parking spot. My car felt like it steered odd whenever I tried pulling into a parking spot. The door and quarter panel are affected, but I don’t think the back door was.

This occurred in Michigan but the vehicle is insured out of Pennsylvania. I’ve since learned about Michigan’s No Fault Insurance, (which is insane to me). It’s been towed to a Michigan auto body shop awaiting insurance determination.

If it matters, this vehicle was meticulously cared for and in very good shape before the accident.

Michigan Road Trip Advice

I'm finalizing my Michigan road trip and would love some feedback. I'm looking to spend time relaxing, seeing nature, quiet lakeshore time, cool bookstores and movie theaters, old/grand architecture, museums, and anything else that would be cool.

Rough plan, 8 nights:

Sat 7/11: Leave Pittsburgh area in the evening, and then drive as far as Flint, MI and grab a hotel.

Sun 7/12: Drive to Mackinaw City (\~3 hrs), ferry over to Mackinac Island for the afternoon and evening, then sleep in St. Ignace.

Mon 7/13: Cross into the UP, stop at Tahquamenon Falls on the way, hotel in Munising.

Tue 7/14: Pictured Rocks boat cruise in the morning, then chill on Lake Superior the rest of the day. Late that night I drive \~1 hr east to Newberry to sleep (cheaper room, and it shortens the next day's drive).

**Wed 7/15:**Drive down to Traverse City, stopping in Petoskey (the Bay View cottages) and Charlevoix (the Mushroom Houses). This day is really just putsing around, so I would love recommendations of things to do/see.

Thu 7/16 Full day at Sleeping Bear Dunes.

Fri 7/17 Slow morning in TC, then down the west coast, lunch with my cousin near Muskegon, ending in Saugatuck (stopping along the way).

**Sat 7/18:**Beach and relax day in Saugatuck, then an evening drive to Toledo, OH for a head start home. Considering adjusting this and stopping in Grand Rapids. Thoughts?

  • *Sun 7/19: Drive home.

Most of the lodging is already booked. What I'd love feedback on:

* Pace: does this seem realistic?
* Pictured Rocks: which cruise? There's a classic one and a longer "Spray Falls" catamaran option. Is the morning departure the right call for light and water conditions?
* Sleeping Bear: beyond Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive, the Dune Climb, and Empire Bluffs, what would you not skip?
* West coast: is Saugatuck the right pick for a wind-down night, or is there a better town for that stretch? What should I stop and see along the coast?
* Hidden gems: given my interests (bookstores, theaters, weird or beautiful architecture, quiet nature, museums, etc), anything along this route I'd kick myself for driving past?

I'm trying to do this on a budget and will be driving solo, if that changes any of the advice. Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide!

Driving Totals:

  • Sat 7/11:* \~5.5 hrs (Pittsburgh to Flint)
  • Sun 7/12:* \~3 hrs driving, plus the ferry (Flint to Mackinaw City, then Mackinac Island, sleep in St. Ignace)
Mon 7/13: \~3 hrs (St. Ignace to Munising via Tahquamenon Falls)
Tue 7/14: \~1 hr, in the evening (cruise day in Munising, then the hop to Newberry)
Wed 7/15: \~3 hrs (Newberry to Traverse City via Petoskey and Charlevoix)
Thu 7/16: \~1 hr, local (Sleeping Bear Dunes day)
Fri 7/17: \~2.5-3 hrs (Traverse City down the coast to Saugatuck, stopping along the way)
Sat 7/18: \~3.5 hrs, in the evening from MI coast to Toledo, OH
Sun 7/19: \~4-4.5 hrs (Toledo home to home)

Trying to find the root flare

I’m working to dig out the root flare on my Japanese Maple, and I’ve gone down about four inches, and I still haven’t found it. I cut some of the smaller roots, but I’m worried about the ones in these photos because of how large they are. Any recommendations?

Looking for shaving advice

I started taking oral minoxidil about 6 months ago, and I have since noticed a huge increase in shaving issues. No matter what I do, my neck is constantly inflamed and irritated immediately after shaving, and then I get bumps as shown in the photo.

I used to use a Gillette 5-razor and shaving cream, and never had an issue. I would reuse that razor about 6-8 times before changing over to a new one (only shaved about twice a week).

Once the irritation started, I’ve tried changing my razor out more frequently, safety razors, disposable razors, using a new blade every single time, and waiting more time in between shaves. Nothing has worked. Every time I shave, my neck bleeds, hurts, and then gets these bumps.

I always shave right after a how shower, and moisturize my face before shaving to ensure it’s not a dry skin, and go from chin down (rinsing the blade in between each swipe).

Any recommendations to not get all cut up and get a good shave are much appreciated.

Anyone see A Walk on the Moon’s First Show?

How’d it go? I really enjoyed Talia Suskauer and Max Cherin in the Parade Tour, so I’m excited to see them in this show.

Bonus question: would you recommend someone watch the movie first?

I was just scrolling this morning and saw this. I know nothing about the show, but that set looks exceptional. Has anyone seen this yet? How was it?

Join me in canceling your A-list subscription

AMC continues to fail to prioritize user experience. I’m so sick of getting disappointed with big events like this. I’m done. I’m sure this post will get removed but I don’t care. I’m so frustrated with this company and their worthless administration.

The AMC Web Development Team Should Be Ashamed

I'm so sick of this company. Completely useless website and app that doesn't work. I am intentionally trying to get good seats for The Odyssey, and of course, nothing is working. Furious. I wish I weren't a movie fan because I constantly get disappointed by AMC.

Edit: After getting on in advance, I had tickets in my cart and now was kicked out back to the end of the "line". I'm so disappointed in AMC. I planned a NYC weekend trip around this film, and now it's going to be useless because scalpers will get all the tickets.

Arena Stage in Washington DC announced their 26/27 season

Interesting season announcement from the Arena Stage. I find the concept of a Nikola Tesla musical… bizarre. I’m not intending to be unkind — hopefully it’s great! Anyone know anything more about it?

Broadwayworld wrote this about it: “new musical from Nikko Benson and Benjamin Halstead about Nikola Tesla and his battle for power, progress, and the price of genius. When Nikola Tesla finds himself up against one of the most powerful figures of his time —Thomas Edison—he pushes himself, his followers, and the limits of electric power to dangerous extremes to connect the world and reach his vision of a new tomorrow. Directed by Marshall Pailet, with music supervision by Dominic Fallacaro, and choreography by Katie Spelman, NIKOLA – A New Musical is an electrifying story of invention, innovation, and the cost of seeing the world differently.”

Also, it’s neat to see Purpose get produced in DC. I’m glad another chunk of people will be able to experience this show. It was really well done.

First (and LAST) time ever buying a rush ticket.

As an out of towner, I’ve never done rush. Decided to give a go for &Juliet today. I was able to get a ticket for their evening performance. I was super excited, until I saw this when I arrived. I asked them if I could move to standing room, and they said “no, because they’re still going to try and sell standing room to people, and we’re not allowed to move anyone.”

Never. Again. I’m mad at myself for letting this happen.

Edit: At intermission, I asked again to move to standing room. They reluctantly let me and it’s SO much better from up here. For those who recommended I move at intermission to an open seat, I did try this. About 10-15 seats were empty on the other side of the rear right orchestra, but I couldn’t pinpoint their exact location before people got up for intermission, so I didn’t want to sit in anyones seats.

The view was horrendous. Just a quick note for those that mentioned I shouldn’t let this discourage me. I can only get to NYC a few times a year. Because of this whole situation, it’s basically a lost show slot where I could and should have seen something else. It’s not worth the risk of dealing with greedy shows and bad seating.

Edit 2: The second half of the show was lovely! I had no idea there was a turn table! Also, just a fun little tid bit: they did not, in fact, sell a single standing room ticket. I was the only one standing. There was also several seats open in the mezz and about 15 open in the orchestra. I don’t want folks to think I feel entitled to a better seat, but they choose to not let me do standing room for the first half just because. I also forgot to add that the patron next to me in my OG seat smelled as if she bathed in peanut butter perfume. Twas… very strange. There was also two young teenagers who were super fans next to the peanut butter lady. They were doing the choreography in their seats, which was substantially less annoying than Ms. Peanut Pearl.

Thanks for everyone’s kind words. I really enjoyed the second half of the show.
