Hot take: Nami doesn't care about romance just like Luffy

She has never shown any attraction to any man or woman throughout the series. She flirts with men sometimes for her own gains etc and she called Kalifa hot once but apart from that, I don't think she is a character who cares about romance.

I don't see her getting with anyone at the end. Maybe she will adopt kids like Bellemere and raise them.

Rewatching WCI and I don't understand why some people hate Nami for slapping Sanji

Like, I understand he was trying to protect the crew but Luffy was hurt already and he wasn't even trying to fight Sanji yet Sanji was beating him up badly.

Nami has always had trust issues since Arlong Park so seeing a friend she trusted betray her captain(who was the first person that she placed her trust in btw) was too much for her. And also, I think Sanji disrespecting Luffy's dream is a part of it, we know how much it matters to Nami given how she was willing to die by Ulti's hand in Wano rather than deny it.

Ultimately, Sanji saved her at the end of the arc and she does forgive him.

Do people on this sub seriously believe One Piece isn't even good?

I understand why some people don't like current One Piece but saying the series as a whole wasn't that good and carried by nostalgia is simply elitist behaviour by some people.

And no one has the right to decide what is good or not. I know a lot of people who have Wano as their favourite arc in One Piece and that's perfectly fine. Imo post timeskip has writing issues but it's just as enjoyable and at times, more enjoyable than pre timeskip.

I don't understand why people come to defend JJK and Bleach whenever they are criticized and hate on OP. Bleach is only being glazed because TYBW anime is coming out. OP as a whole is way better than Bleach in my opinion and this used to be a common take a few years ago. Also OP post timeskip still isn't as bad as what JJK did towards the end.

Rewatching the series and Sanji and Nami bond is pretty underrated

I used to think Nami is annoyed by Sanji's perviness and simping but rewatching it made me realise that outside of some really bad cases, I think she enjoys the special treatment and sometimes uses it to her advantage but still cares about him as a friend. And Sanji obviously loves every pretty woman but I think Nami is special for him since they have been through a lot together.

Nami also relies on Sanji the most after Luffy. Luffy undeniably occupies a special place in her heart after Arlong Park but she is very close to Sanji too.

None of this means I ship them, I think they would make a terrible couple. But they definitely care for each other.

Do you consider Luffy to be a good captain?

Imo he is a great symbol that people can rally around. His charisma draws people to listen to him which is why Whitebeard 's pirates rallied around him in Marineford. Also he has great emotional intelligence so he understands his crew and their insecurities really well.

But as a captain, he makes emotional decisions over logical decisions most of the time which leads to some dumb decisions.

But I think it's a strong point for his character. Luffy is written to be a character who does whatever he thinks is right without caring about others, the true representation of freedom.

I love how Luffy's response to Nami being stressed is giving her his Straw Hat

Wish we saw more of this post timeskip.

I don't understand why some people say Zoro would be more furious at Sanji here and would beat him to death or something like that

To me, it always felt like Nami was mad at Sanji and refused to forgive him because Nami has always had trust issues since Arlong Park. She doesn't trust people that easily especially men. Luffy was the first man whom she trusted and seeing him get beaten by another person whom they both trusted was probably too much for her. Also Nami can't read people that well compared to Luffy. She couldn't understand that Sanji might have a reason for his actions.

But I don't like how some people say Zoro would be more furious or beat Sanji to death. I feel like Zoro has a better understanding of people than most of the crew. Imo he would just quietly stand and do nothing while knowing that there must be a reason. But he would also demand an apology before Sanji re joins the crew like he did with Usopp.

Who would you rather date: Sanji or Luffy?

Pick your poison:

Sanji would flirt with every other beautiful woman but give you princess treatment and make delicious food for you

Luffy would not show affection at all and be careless but he will understand your emotions well especially when you are upset.

Why do I only see One Piece being targeted on this sub when it is one of the better shonen?

It isn't the best piece of fiction ever created in terms of writing but it's really enjoyable and imo better written than most in the shonen genre. It's the best written of the Big 3 imo and mid to low diffs new generation shonen like JJK, MHA etc.

Is it because it has a larger fandom than the rest?

Naruto's closest friend has always been Sasuke, it's the core of the series

People say Shikamaru, Gaara or Sakura are closer to Naruto than Sasuke but the truth is that none of these friendships have the same narrative importance that Naruto and Sasuke do. Some people hate on Sasuke but he never hated Naruto and always considered him his friend even when he was consumed by hatred.

What do you think separates One Piece from the average shonen

Imo:

  1. The way things connect after hundreds of episodes. If it was any other shonen, Laboon wouldn't even be mentioned later on in the story but One Piece did. Same for Coby, Alvida or Buggy.

  2. The Straw Hats. They all have such a good dynamic and feel like found family. In most shonen, the characters revolve around the mc and their individual interactions are considerably weaker. This is not the case in One piece. While the Straw Hats revolve around Luffy, their individual bonds and dynamics are fun to watch.

  3. The length. Some people consider it a flaw but I love the fact that the universe is continuously expanding. It makes the world feel real.

One of my favourite aspects of One Piece is how little it focuses on romance which means there are a lot of platonic bonds between men and women. What's your favourite?

Mine is Luffy and Nami. Their bond is just so cute and is like a sibling dynamic imo.
