Why is principal paydown never considered in this subreddit when it's a comparison between investing in real estate versus investing in the market? Focus solely seems to be on appreciation/gains.

What am I missing here? Many of my friends in the US who own rental property in small towns aren't even considering the idea of appreciation and are just focusing on principal paydown on fairly cash flow neutral properties.

Why are there so many more Pitbull and Rottweiler owners in Mississauga parks these days?

Has anyone noticed this trend over the past few years? What's even more concerning is it's evident in many of these scenarios the owner wouldn't even be able to restrain their dog if something happened.

Way too many scenarios where the owner is much older, someone who is a lot smaller in figure, or even in some cases somewhat disabled.

What is your process for finding video ideas that you know will be hits with your target audience?

Does anyone have a specific process they found works quite well for finding video ideas that will be hits with their target audience based on what other videos have already been popular on Youtube for other similar channels?

I know one option is using the outlier tool on vidIQ, but I don't find it to be the most helpful. Does anyone have a different process?

Stronger house sales dismay Toronto condo sellers

General premise of the article is that condo sales are taking a beating because there are many people open to taking a loss on the condo sale more than they normally would to get a house at a great price right now. Which, in turn, is causing house prices in the GTA to stabilize.

A tale of two different home categories more or less.

How strict is recycling pick up with the 60 cm x 60 cm for cardboard left on the curb?

Is there an idea that all my cardboard boxes need to be cut up and stacked to be close to this 60 cm by 60 cm dimension requirement, or is the pickup not really that strict and pretty flexible with some bigger boxes as well? Do people typically tie up all these boxes with a piece of string or something Or just lie them flat on top of each other?

Recent videos were getting traction but the last 2 videos I published this week have gotten zero views in almost 5 hours and 3 days respectively. Any idea why?

I've uploaded about 8 videos. My previous videos were getting decent traction for my niche, but the most recent 2 videos, got almost zero views. Looking at YouTube analytics, it looks like it was only shown to two people in both cases. One has been up for 5 hours and the other for 3 days.

Has anyone experienced this before? Any suggestions/strategies on how to address it?

I do talking head videos with just some AI content embedded at points and there isn't any type of parental control restricting the distribution of the video. This most recent videos were also likely my best videos, which is why this is very confusing.

Using Microsoft OneDrive to have the same desktop and files on multiple laptops

Hi all, I have an old laptop with OneDrive setup to sync files on my desktop and just bought a new laptop.

If I install Microsoft OneDrive on the new laptop and set it to sync to the desktop of the new laptop, does that mean all the files from my old laptop desktop will show up on the desktop of my new laptop?

How to avoid concerns where my new laptop's desktop has files on it that my old laptop's desktop does not.? Are there any concerns that when I choose to sync my new laptop's desktop to OneDrive, it sees there is nothing on the desktop for my new laptop and it chooses to wipe out everything on my old laptop's desktop to make sure it looks the same?

If I have a $700 CIBC Mastercard Cashback Costco Gift Certificate, will they give me say $600 back in cash if I only buy something for $100?

We're moving to a region without a Costco close by. I have a $700 Cash Back Gift Certificate due to spending via my Costco Mastercard.

Would they be ok giving me cash of $600 or would that be an issue? I know a friend had an issue getting a large amount of cashback before.

Self-Employed, is it ok to expense a laptop 2 years in a row because the first one broke?

If you expensed a laptop for your self-employment business taxes for 2025 (100% using rapid/accelerated expense option) and then it breaks so you buy and expense another laptop for 2026, will the CRA question it?

What happens in 2027/2028 due to a lack of new condo starts over the past few years?

I regularly see this reference to the idea of a lack of new construction starts in recent years, meaning there'll be almost no new condos coming online in 2027 and 2028.

What does this mean for the price of condos in 2027 to say 2030? Does it mean it stays stagnant or rises marginally or to a significant degree?

Obviously it's all speculation but just curious of how others are interpreting this common talking point.

What are jobs someone can do without much experience in the GTA with great earning potential if you are willing to work hard, put in the time to learn and are open to waiting 3-5 years to get to the point of actually hitting a higher income? But wouldn't require another 4 year degree or Masters.

Obvious ones that people have mentioned are sales jobs such as a mortgage broker and head hunters. Anything else anyone would recommend?

Anyone know of a plumber in Mississauga that specializes in detecting water leaks in condos?

Not sure if all plumbers would necessarily have this background so hoping somoene might know of a plumber who has this specialty and could provide me with a name.

Or any general advice about this? Water seems to be leaking from the bathroom (tub, shower or toilet) into the main condo hallway.

Condo Management wants me to hire a plumber to find a leak in my unit (bathroom near tub and toilet and leaking into hallway) that they can't seem to identify the source for

Would anyone be able to advise me on this?

Can I hire any plumber or does it need to be someone with specialized tools (ex. acoustic listening devices, thermal cameras, moisture meters, and pipe inspection cameras)?

Anyone have any guidance on how to find someone for this?

I'm confused by people saying housing shouldn't be seen as an investment but then are also choosing not to buy using investment metrics

Having rented and owned, there is definitely a difference despite if I could have gotten a larger return by putting my money into the stock market.

I see owning a home as a place I can make my own and not be concerned about being kicked out every two to three years.

Also just because I buy a house doesn't mean I can't still have some money in investments. It doesn't need to be just one extreme or the other.

What percentage of people renting out their basement in the GTA do you think declare that income on their taxes?

I'm getting the impression most people don't declare this income.

Isn't this a huge difference to have earned $1k-$2k a month tax free? That's the equivalent of taking on a mortgage that's an extra almost 200k-400k, and being able to meet said financial obligation because of this additional tax free income.

Edit: For those saying you can claim enough expenses to net out the majority of revenue, I don't think that's true. Please share the math showing otherwise on say an $800k mortgage and rental income of $1.5k per month. Keep in mind you can only expense the portion related to the basement and not the whole of the housing expenses.

Plus doing this would effect what is considered the cost of the property when you sell and increase how muh capital gains tax you pay no? I think it eliminates what is considered principal resident exempt based on what I'm reading online.

Canada Day falls on a Wednesday. Are people more likely to take the Tuesday off or the Thursday off if they were to take an extra day?

Trying to plan a family outing on a day where things are less busy in the GTA, either the day before or after Canada day.

Does anyone have any thoughts on which day between the Tuesday and Thursday would likely be less busy and fewer people would take the day off?
