It seems like foreigners , many who have never even been to the USA, seem to hate it. What gives ?

Every country in the world has problems, but of all the worlds countries the USA seems to have the least. Yet if you ask a European about Canada their opinion is neutral or positive.. you ask them about the USA and it’s in many cases a negative response… it doesn’t even seem logical. Like Americans all pay 2k a month for health insurance and get shot at school…. They won’t even bother to mention the many great things the USA has to offer.. it grinds my gears and I was wondering if anyone else experience this ignorance

Why do people blame boomers for their country problems?

I notice in a lot of discussions with European millennials and younger… they blame the boomer generation for the problems the country faces.. but I wonder what the thought process behind that. Most boomers I know didn’t save much for retirement and live off modest pensions… if they are wealthy it’s all tied up in their home …

Do you have any memories of WW2 vets?

When I was a young boy in the late 90s, ww2 was a massive cultural icon.. saving private ryan, band of brothers , call of duty , etc… and I remember meeting world war 2 vet and I asked him about dday… I think it gave him nightmares…

It’s sad but ww2 was no longer 50-60 years ago… it’s closer to 80.

Do you think the loss of that generation means the death of our fascination with the subject ? Will it fade away with the passing of that generation? Are we so far removed from it that It no longer has the cultural pull it did in my generation?

What are the most affordable eating out options in the metro?

Particularly “healthy” options… no offense to McDonald’s which isn’t all that cheap anymore .

Gotta give a shoutout to Mexican trucks tho. If you can find a good Mexican truck with fresh, juicy beef that’s always nice . That taco truck on shields and 240 in front of the Valero is pretty sweet

How hard would be to go without internet in the USA?

Like digital detoxing … can you even go without internet or digital tech for… say a year ?

I grew up before internet and I was wondering if it’s even possible now or if anyone does it

Why were doughboys so enthusiastic in ww1?

I was reading about the American experience in ww1 and what stands out to me was the…naïveté with which they entered the war… almost as if it’d be a quick walk to Berlin… or the Americans would show up and just show em how it’s done… weren’t Americans aware of how brutal the war had been up to that point?

Can I really just say I’m prejudiced and get out of jury duty?

I was watching curb your enthusiasm TV show and there was a scene where he got out of jury duty by saying he was prejudiced against black ppl… I dont agree with that but it made me wonder if is that easy to get out of it…. I mean if you can just say “i dont like cops, catholics, lawyers , white people” or whatever and just get dismissed. I have to imagine theyd investigate your assertion at least a little but but obviously Idk

Learning about Judaism

Hello! I made a Reddit post on my local community
Asking about learning about Judaism locally.. i get mixed messages … in the thread many seem to suggest that Jews are not welcoming or interested in people who want to learn about the religion…
I’d like to learn about Jewish traditions , history and community life. I’ve looked into local resources like temple b’nai israel but I want to make sure I’m approaching it respectfully . I know it’s not an “evangelical” religion, so I don’t want to show up unannounced or break the etiquette because of my own ignorance.

Do you have any advice on the best way to approach this , introduce myself as a sincere learner ? Specific events that are open to newcomers , expectations of stress and presentation ? Are synagogues generally welcoming to randos trying to engage with the religion?

Thank you

How much blame did the general staff have for German failures in world war 2?

There’s this idea out there that Adolf Hitler was a madman who was responsible for German military defeat, and while I don’t doubt his contributions.., I wonder how much of the fault for the failure of Barbarossa , fall blau, Normandy and the general strategic failure laid not on his shoulders but on his generals. For example, halder did his best to my understanding to run the war the way he wanted it (aiming toward Moscow), but maybe Hitler was right in the economic goals of the war (seizing the oil fields) … the problem is that the survivors wrote the history it seems (memoirs) and the west after the war had a vested interest in separating the madman from the generals because of the Cold War.

Really, my question is how many of the military failures were Hitler , and how many were halder, guderian, runstedt etc. it seems like they never grasped their strategic position

It makes sense enlightenment ideals make a good rallying cry to get the peasants to fight but I wonder if it had more to do with the rules the British empire placed
On colonization west of the Appalachians and economic interests related to the British empire trade rules. Cynically I wonder if the revolution had more to do with the interests of the planter class and the enlightenment shtick just made the whole project look pretty.

Ich möchte einen Post erstellen und fragen, wie die Bezahlung und die Arbeitsbedingungen als SHK-Anlagenmechaniker in Deutschland sind und wie das im Vergleich zu den USA aussieht.

Vielen dank
