My own personal nurse

This is Melody. She's 9 years old and is the perfect nurse. I've had a pretty bad year health-wise (15 surgeries, 5 hospitalizations) but Melody stuck by my side, healing me with her purrs and her 'mirin eyes. She likes to put her paw on me or in my hand, and gaze at me adoringly. I love her so much.

I've never cried during a TV show in my entire life...then I watched the finale

I'm generally very stoic and unfazed by moments meant to be sad or sentimental in TV shows or movies. Even "Goodbye Michael" made me smile wistfully, but never tear up. But tonight, I watched the finale for the first time. To add context: I've had an extremely challenging year health wise (15 surgeries, 5 hospitalizations, to start) and have spent much of that time laid up in bed trying to recover. I eventually turned to The Office to keep me company during some of those lonely nights where I was the only one awake. I never binged it because it was like a fine wine that I wanted to savor, and I managed to stretch out all 9 seasons over the course of exactly one year.

So tonight, I was watching the finale and doing just fine emotionally, when in walks Michael and I just LOST IT. I had been spoiled to the fact that he'd be appearing, but I was not prepared for the actual moment. Man, how I ugly sobbed, then rewound the scene over and over. I then proceeded to tear up again at Phyllis's little statue that Stanley made, at Dwight calling Pam his best friend, and at Creed's final words of wisdom before being hauled away.

And you know what I did right after the credits? Right then, at 1am, I replayed S1E1, but this time, the Superfan Edition. I'll let you all know this time next year if it makes me cry again. 🥹

How can I get my dog to eat?

I have a 5 year husky/boxer/pitbull mix and since we adopted her at 9 weeks old, she's been a picky eater. We have tried all kinds of kibble, wet food, even plain boiled chicken and sometimes she'll like something for a few days then refuse it. We always assumed the pickiness is the husky in her (huskies age notoriously picky eaters). Things got more complicated when she got valley fever (a fungal infection prevalent in the southwest) a couple years ago. She went into remission for a bit but it's back again. It's disseminated in her hindquarters and can be uncomfortable, but she's otherwise happy and energetic. However, since the resurgence, her eating has gotten worse. She had a full exam and blood workup and everything is perfect, so the vet is sure valley fever is her only health issue (she will likely have it for life but lifespan can generally be normal with lifelong meds).

The vet said to put out her kibble and don't offer anything else. No treats, nothing. In other words, if she gets hungry, she'll eat. We have tried that for multiple days at a time. Problem is, she'd rather go hungry than eat something she disapproves of and the valley fever is curbing her hunger as well. Yet, if we give her a canned food she approves of, she'll gobble it down, but she gets tired of stuff she likes easily.

I have no idea what to do anymore. I love this girl with all my heart and I can't bear to see her waste away. She's obviously slightly hungry, but we need healthy calories in her. I'm so worried. I need my baby to eat. 😔 I appreciate any advice.

Does anyone else's cat do this?

Lillibet even does this at night sometimes! It's so darn cute, though! Who else has eye coverers?
