31 Years Later, Dreaming of You Still Makes Me Emotional

Today I listened to Dreaming of You, and every time I hear it, it brings out so many emotions. For me, this album represents love, hope, and sadness not in a bad way, but because it reminds me of everything Selena dreamed of accomplishing. Next week, July 18, marks 31 years since Dreaming of You was released. Knowing that recording an English album and reaching audiences around the world had been one of Selena's biggest dreams makes listening to it even more emotional. I truly believe she would have been incredible touring not only across the United States but also in Europe, Asia, and so many other places. Sadly, her life was cut short before she had the chance to see those dreams come true. I'm grateful her family and team chose to release Dreaming of You. Even though Selena wasn't here to finish everything she had planned, the album became a beautiful part of her legacy and introduced her music to millions of new fans. As technology continues to evolve, I personally hope AI is never used to create a "new" Selena crossover album or a simulated tour. I'd rather celebrate the music, performances, and memories she actually gave us. Of course, that's ultimately a decision for her family, and I respect whatever they choose. I'm just thankful that, 31 years later, we're still listening, remembering, and keeping Selena's legacy alive.

23 and struggling with my parents getting divorced

The other day I found out my parents are getting divorced and honestly I don't really know how to feel. They've been fighting for a long time, so part of me saw it coming, but hearing it officially still hit me harder than I expected. My dad has been pretty hard on my mom for quite a while now and I think they've both just reached their limit. I'm 23 and still live at home because I can't afford to move out yet. I also don't drive, so I depend on my parents for rides to places like work. One of the things that's making my anxiety worse is not knowing what happens next when everything gets finalized. I've been feeling stressed, anxious, and kind of isolated since finding out. I see my therapist this week, which I'm glad about, but right now my mind keeps going to all the unknowns. I know people fall out of love and not every marriage lasts forever, but it still sucks. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else went through their parents getting divorced as an adult and how you dealt with it.

Hear me out: Jacob Elordi as JFK Jr in a biopic or HBO series

I randomly thought about this earlier and now I genuinely can’t unsee it 😭 I don’t even think there’s ever really been a major JFK Jr biopic, but Jacob Elordi honestly has a similar vibe/look to him to me. The height, hair, facial structure, and that calm public figure energy JFK Jr had in the 90s. I feel like he’d fit perfectly in an HBO-style drama focused on the George magazine era, NYC paparazzi culture, Carolyn Bessette, etc.

I wish people wouldn’t project politics onto Selena

I recently came across a TikTok that turned Selena into a political discussion and honestly it really bothered me as a fan.

What upset me the most wasn’t even the political part itself, it was seeing people say they would unfollow Selena, stop supporting her music, or remove her songs from their playlists over assumptions about beliefs she never publicly expressed herself.

I just personally don’t like seeing Selena’s name used for online political arguments or debates. None of us truly knew how she would feel about today’s political climate, and I think people sometimes forget that her legacy was always more about music, culture, kindness, and bringing people together.

Her family has also always seemed pretty private when it comes to politics, which is another reason why I don’t think it’s fair when people confidently claim what Selena would or wouldn’t believe.

Regardless of politics, Selena’s impact on music and Hispanic culture is still being recognized decades later, and I think that says more about who she was than internet arguments ever will.

I’ll share the TikTok in the comments for context, but I honestly wish people would stop turning Selena into political discourse online.
