What are SIPs?

Hey everyone,

I just turned 18 and I honestly don't know much about investing, stocks, mutual funds, or any of that stuff.

I've heard teachers and other people talk about SIPs and how starting early can help a lot in the long run. One example I heard was something like investing ₹5,000 and ending up with around ₹12 lakh after 20 years, but I don't really know how that works.

Can someone explain SIPs to me like I'm a complete beginner? Are they actually safe, and are they still worth doing these days?

Also, where should I start if I want to learn about investing and personal finance without getting overwhelmed?
