I'm bored, so what's your favorite 3 episodes and why?

Spoilers

Mine are Sorcerer, Massacre at Hawkins Lab, and The Gate. Sorcerer is my favorite episode of he entire series because it was epic, it had good humor and an amazing ending that promised a much better ending than we did end up getting (I do actually really like the final season, but compared to my SKY HIGH expectations of it being the best season yet, it was disappointing). Massacre at Hawkins Lab I feel doesn't need an explanation to why it's up here. Finally the Gate is actually where and when I got into ST, to where I saw a clip of the ending on YouTube and instantly was hooked and loved the show. Beyond that, I disagree with those who say stop the show at S3 because quite frankly I didn't much care for season 3 and only found it worth it because of the banger of a season 4 we got that built upon the end of s3. I do get why many would stop at s2 though because admittedly it was a very good ending point, me personally, I liked season 5 enough that I'm willing to accept it as the ending and get the treat of watching s4 up to it.

Hot take: Vecna was a great idea for giving the mind flayer an origin, but executed wrong.

Season 5 & 4 Spoilers

>!Before some of you throw "but it ruined cosmic horror vibe of mind flayer" I want you to realize two things.

  1. In DND, despite having an origin and all, and being humanoid, Vecna is still classified as an eldritch entity who's more powerful than COUNTLESS other cosmic demons. And
  2. I've seen no one talk about this, but it was theorized for years before S4 came out that the Mind Flayer was whoever 001 was, seriously, you can even find videos about it from awhile ago. Here's the thing tho, when I and many others imagined a humanoid force behind the mind flayer, we imagined someone of FAR greater power than Jane/El, floating around within the giant shadow form of the mind flayer. This leads me to the hottest take yet, them deciding to retcon the mind flayer being the source of Vecna's powers is honestly a large part of what caused S5 to not be as great as it could've been (I like s5, but definitely view it partly as a disappointment because s4 set my expectations sky high.)

This all leads me to what I think could've been changed in s5 and the first shadow play to make better use of Will's connection to the hive mind and make Vecna a thousand times more threatening in s5. I would've changed the lore so that Brenner wasn't the son of the survivor of the USS eldritch experiment, but one of the crew who died. I would've also instead said that either Henry's father or his mother was, and that the experiment itself, NOT being transported to the Abyss, was what gave them a unique blood type, one that was maybe dormant in him/her, but not in Henry. Then for s5, I would've said that Vecna couldn't save his body, and so he could only survive by fully transferring his mind to the shadow mind flayer form, and is seeking to take over Will as a vessel. This is how I would've changed the premise of s5 to create more stakes, what do you all think?!<

Reading the book geometry demystified, what do I take notes of?

To give some context, I'm a soon to be 10th grader, and my math class next year is honors geometry, so I'm trying to get ahead of the curve. The thing is though, I don't know what and how to take notes as normally I've not really needed to, but 9th grade challenged me more than I've ever been, and I struggled to maintain an A. Next year is only going to be harder, so I got this book from the library to get ahead of school, and it itself has eleven 10 question quizzes, two 50 question tests, and I think a 100 question final exam, to where the answers are at the back of the book, and I have someone else grade me and tell me not which I got wrong, just how many I got right. I'm approaching the first test and I'm terrified. Not only that but I've yet to take any notes as when I try taking notes I end up copying whole paragraphs from the book, which ends up making me take a thousand times longer. Due to this I've come here to ask what do I take notes of, as school is only a couple of weeks away now and I really want to finish this book before school starts back up again.

Reading geometry book, I think I noticed a mistake, please tell me if I'm right or wrong.

Right now I'm reading a copy of geometry demystified, and on chapter 4. It says, and I quote "We can fit large numbers of regular octagons tightly together to form a honeycomb matrix, just as we can do with equilateral triangles, squares, and regular hexagons." This is wrong, right? If it isn't, please show me a picture of what it's referencing.

I don't know if this is on topic (if it is please tell me the right reddit to post this), but I think people have become unreasonably toxic towards the duffers.

What I'm referring to is the absolutely toxic divorce gate theory that has no viable evidence other than coincidence, trying to take away from what the Duffers actually did do. Beyond that people are using their failure with ST5 to act like any projects they do from now on will be terrible when they've already made a high quality project since ST5 called the Boroughs. Personally, I hold the opinion that they're going to make some good and bad projects, and I think one shouldn't avoid checking out one of the Duffers projects (like the LA Death Note adaptation they've been working on) based solely off the idea that ST5 was bad therefore whatever else they make will be bad now.

Question about s1e2 of live action.

In season 1 episode 2, buggy submerged luffy in seawater completely while the map to the grand line was in his stomach, taking away his powers. If that's the case however, how come it didn't almost kill luffy having map in a metal container in his stomach without his powers, according to chat GPT, it's because the seawater prevents him from elongating or de-elongating while he's in it, so his stomach maintained the shape required to keep him alive. Is this right? Also I didn't know if to label it speculation or discussion, did I use right flair?

Who else agrees with me in the thought that more shows final seasons should take risks like Fringe's did?

Question above. Okay I'm realizing this could be misinterpreted as GOT and Lost also took risks, when I say take risks like Fringe season 5 did, I mean focus on what's set up and makes sense for the story over what people want or are used to, despite the fact that I liked it, an example of this is Stranger Things 5, to where it was so afraid of taking risks and so focused on trying to "recapture the magic of season 1" that it didn't lean into the apocalyptic vibe set up at the end of season 4 like it should've.

What new abilities do you think they could introduce in the future for the different bending styles

I think that they could explore more Airbending unique abilities, like maybe they could change the atmosphere around them, granted I don't know what use that'd serve, well actually maybe it could make it harder to create fire or use water, so yeah maybe that would be interesting, though I don't know what it'd be called that'd make sense, as I don't think they'll have invented the word atmosphere yet. But you get the gist, what're unique ways of using he bending styles that they've yet to do.

Who do you think is the most powerful avatar?

Normally I'd say Aang, but when I think about i think that all avatar states are actually as powerful as one another because they're all powered by Raava, and so it seems that they all just use their avatar states in different ways, so this is a question of skill, to which I don't know because I'm a new avatar fan and have yet to read he books, but as far as I know Wan was the only one directly trained by Raava himself , so I'd say him, but I'm a little bit biased as I love his character.

What should I read next?

So I've gotten super into books lately, starting with reading the three body problem book trilogy, which I didn't care for at first but then loved the second and third books, and then I read fahrenheit 451 which was really well written but had one big plot hole in the end that was due to a lack of understanding of nuclear radiation at the time it was written. Then I read the his dark materials book trilogy which was my favorite yet, and now I'm considering reading either the WHOLE foundation universe next, or project hail mary and a couple of he other works of andy weir.

What would you think if sega created a SA3 and in it destroyed the chaos emeralds?

It's a fanfic idea I've been coming up with, as it'd have large impact without killing off a main character, and would force Sonic to REALLY start relying on his own powers and his friends.

This might not be a good question but its for sci-fi story idea that I want to be SOMEWHAT grounded in actual physics.

If there was concentrated, controlled dark energy as phantom matter/dark fluid, what would it look like, how would it affect the environment around it, the idea is it's an multidimensional entity using dark energy to try and cause a big rip, and so this dark energy entity (or more rather the physical manifestation of it) would disintegrate anything it touches, but other than that what would it look like visually, like would it look like a giant living magnifying glass drifting through air?

Idea for a prequel series (or books, or movie)

Imagine a prequel series expanding upon the lore of wan called "The Legend of Wan: The First Avatar" l, in fact I think it could even introduce the idea of a lost colony of people who were given energybending by the Lion Turtles but became evil and ran from the turtle and abused their power to give themselves all 4 elements and even hide within the four nations disguising themselves as certain benders to gain power within the four nations and manipulate them like the shapeshifter rulers of the dominion in Star Trek. Also it could be used to tidy up the lore a little. The new energybending nation could be the one he sacrificed himself to defeat except maybe one, probably their leader, survived and becomes an enemy for future shows like and after seven havens. Along with all this you could even say that the same turtle who created this nation exiled himself in shame waiting for his moment of redemption and that came when he gave Aang energybending.

New atla fan here, binged the original series and legend of Korra after having watched the Netflix live action season 1.

So I actually got into the live action show first (way before s2 release) after having watched the live action one piece and I chose to watch the animated avatar franchise as it was much less of a commitment than watching the animated one piece. I liked book one water, but I found it to be a little childish like power rangers. After that I decided to binge the entirety of the animated shows so I continued onto book two earth... And I did NOT like it as much as many did, I liked it, but for me it was a relatively rushed not quite mess, but then... Book 3 fire, I've NEVER thought that ending for a series could make me love it whereas I'd only liked it before. I then went onwards to tlok, book one air, easily best villain of the franchise (outside of Koh but I wouldn't really count him as a VILLAIN, more just a force), but the season was okay as it was too distracted most of the time with drama, rather than balancing it. Then book two spirits I liked UNTIL the end, as it was a good season in my opinion, despite Korra suddenly becoming a drama queen of the highest order, but I feel like the whole season could've been fixed by just removing the deus ex machina at the end (they could've done something else entirely). Book 3 change, up there with fire, and I don't think there's any need to defend this opinion. Finally there's book four balance very good, BUT Kuvira feels too overpowered as they did very well at explaining why Korra couldn't defeat her, but there are a ton other characters who I think should've and could've defeated her, particularly old Zuko, Zuko's son (or was it grandson I forget) and the police chief. I have yet to watch the live action season 2. I've also yet to play any of the games or read the books.

Should the his dark materials book series should get another live action adaptation along with the book of dust?

So I posted an opinion/question in the HBO reddit that I found to be quite controversial, which was that I actually thought the HBO series to be better than the books as it built out the world more and tied it all together better, and I asked if it was just me or whether or not anyone else thought this, I got a a lot of answers saying that the show was a good adaptation (some saying it even was one of the best book adaptations out there) but that the books were better, I asked some questions as to what kept it from being as good as the books and so on, and got some examples of deleted scenes or scenes they didn't adapt well but particularly I saw mostly that most were displeased with Lyra's characterization. Due to this I decided to come here to ask two questions, one should they in the future make an adaptation of the books (given that they do it more accurate and such) and should they also make an adaptation of the book of dust series GIVEN they actually try to improve on the story of TSC and TRF?
