Title: 75–80" display for adult education classrooms

Looking for recommendations for a 75–80" commercial display for adult education classrooms.

No interactive/touchscreen features needed. It will mainly be used to display PowerPoint, PDFs, videos, websites, and instructor notes.

The most important requirement is reliable wireless screen sharing from Windows laptops.

A mobile stand/cart would also be helpful.

What brand/model would you recommend?

62 and thinking about retirement — how much is enough?

Hi, I’m just curious. I’m 62 years old, live in Canada, and would like to know how much you’re worth (assets, investments, equity, etc.) and how old you are.

How much do you think someone should have saved by age 65 to retire? Would you rely on dividends after retirement?

Thank you.

Looking for a 55–60" TV/display for classroom use

Hi everyone

I’m in Canada and looking for a 55–60" TV/display for a classroom.

The main thing I need is for teachers to connect their Windows 10/11 laptops to the TV wirelessly and show PowerPoint, videos, websites, etc.

My first choice is wireless, so I’m looking for something with a good and stable connection and not much lag. It needs to work well during a full class.

If wireless is not reliable, I can also use a long HDMI cable, maybe around 20 feet.

I’m not really sure which TV/display is best for this. Budget is flexible.

What would you recommend?

Thanks

Samsung QMC55 can't play CP24 live video – any ideas?

Hi everyone, I have a Samsung QMC55 commercial display. The TV is connected to the Internet and I can browse websites normally, but I can't play the live video on CP24.com. I get an error 5006/404.

The same CP24 live video works perfectly on my phone, laptops and desktops, so I'm wondering if this is a problem with the Samsung/Tizen browser or video compatibility.

The TV is currently running software 1130.4, and the Software Update option is greyed out.

Samsung says it's a CP24 website issue, but I'm not convinced. Samsung advertises the QMC/QMB signage displays as having an upgradable web engine for newer web content.

Has anyone with a Samsung QMC/QM commercial display been able to play CP24 live video or similar live-streaming websites? Any ideas on how to fix this or update the web engine?

I've attached a screenshot of the error. Thanks

Looking for an easy DIY security camera system

I'm looking to replace an old 3-camera security system with something newer. I only need 3 or 4 cameras and want something that's easy to install myself, has no monthly subscription, good video quality, reliable local recording (NVR or similar), and is easy to use. I don't mind spending a bit more if it's worth it.

ChatGPT recommended the Reolink NVS8 system. Does anyone here have experience with it? Would you recommend it, or is there a better option?

What would you do differently?

Hi, I'm 61 and trying to grow my portfolio for the next 10–15 years. I know I'm older, but I still want growth and I'm okay with market ups and downs.

My portfolio is:

  • SCHD 43%
  • VTI 30%
  • VUG 17%
  • JEPQ 10%

No bonds for now.

What would you change? Is SCHD too high? Would you add VXUS or just keep it all U.S.?

Thanks

How would you invest an extra $8,000?

I'm 61 years old and have about $8,000 in cash that I'm ready to invest.

I currently own:

  • VTI
  • VUG
  • SCHD
  • JEPQ

My goal is long-term growth over the next 5–7 years.

I'm trying to decide whether to add to one of these ETFs or buy a different one.

If you were in my situation, where would you put the $8,000, and why?

Thanks

Which ETF should I invest my extra $8,000 in?

I'm 61 years old and have about $8,000 in cash that I'm ready to invest in my taxable brokerage account.

I currently own VTI, VUG, SCHD, and JEPQ.

I'm trying to decide whether it makes more sense to add to one of these ETFs or buy something different. My goal is long-term growth over the next 5–7 years.

If you were in my situation, how would you invest the $8,000, and why?

Thanks
PS:
Current allocation:

  • SCHD: 36.4%
  • VUG: 15.0%
  • LRCX: 13.6%
  • VTI: 9.2%
  • JEPQ: 9.0%

The remaining ~17% is cash that I'm planning to invest.

Mileage Claim Clarification and Employee Disagreement

I'm looking for some HR/management advice on a mileage claim situation.

One of our technicians was assigned to work at a temporary site for the entire day. He drove from home directly to the work site in the morning and, at the end of the day, drove directly home. He did not report to the office at any point that day.

Before responding to his mileage claim, I requested clarification from the department responsible for our mileage policy. The written clarification stated that if an employee's normal commute from home to their regular office is, for example, 20 km, and the temporary work site is 35 km from home, only the additional 15 km is claimable because the first 20 km is considered the normal commute. If the temporary work site is closer to home than the regular office, then no mileage is claimable.

The technician disagrees with this interpretation. He believes that because he travelled directly from home to the temporary work site and then directly home, he should be able to claim the entire distance between home and the temporary work site.

I'm trying to understand two things:

  1. Is this approach to mileage claims common in your organization, or do employees normally claim the full distance from home to a temporary work site?
  2. As a supervisor, how would you handle a situation where an employee disagrees with a written interpretation provided by the department responsible for the policy? Would you simply provide the clarification and move on, or would you take any additional steps if the employee still insists their interpretation is correct?

I'm not looking for legal advice or trying to prove anyone wrong. I'm just interested in how other workplaces handle this type of situation and what the best management approach would be.

Where is this interactive toolbar coming from?

We have a Maxell MC-TW3506 interactive projector. I connected a freshly reimaged Windows laptop using HDMI and a USB cable from the projector to the laptop. No projector software was installed.

The interactive pen works, and I also get a floating toolbar with options like pen, mouse mode, and other annotation tools. I can close the toolbar and it disappears.

My question is: where is this toolbar coming from? Is it built into the projector, built into Windows, or is some software being installed automatically when the USB cable is connected?

I'm trying to understand how the annotation tools work even though no software was manually installed on the laptop.

How would you approach this?

Hi, I’m 61 and live in Canada. My portfolio includes JEPQ, JEPI, QQQI, SCHD, VTI, and VUG.

I’ve got about $3,000 sitting in a taxable account (not TFSA or RRSP), and I’m trying to decide how to approach adding to it.

Given what I already hold, how would you think about deploying new money in this situation?

Thanks.

Which ETF/Stock should I buy?

Hi, I’m 61 and live in Canada. My portfolio has JEPQ, JEPI, QQQI, SCHD, VTI, and VUG.

I’ve got about $3,000 to invest in a non-registered account (not TFSA or RRSP).

Just wondering what ETFs people would recommend right now, even outside of what I already hold, and why?

Thanks.

Water leaking through concrete landing

I have a small concrete landing at my front door, and underneath it is a basement bathroom. When it rains, water drips from a crack in the bathroom ceiling.

The crack is roughly in the middle of the ceiling near the bathroom door. The stair railing posts are bolted into the concrete, but they are off to the side and not directly above the crack. Could water still be getting in around the railing posts and then traveling through the concrete before dripping from the crack?

What do you recommend I check or use to fix this? Would sealing around the posts and waterproofing the concrete be a good start?

Switching from 1G Dedicated Fiber to 1.5G Cable

Hi everyone,

We currently have a 1G dedicated fiber connection (stable but expensive).

We’ve been offered a 1.5G cable connection, but it’s shared (not dedicated) and uses a dynamic IP instead of static.

We support about 50 users using mostly Google/Microsoft 365, video calls, and general browsing.

Has anyone made a similar switch from dedicated fiber to shared cable? Any real issues with performance or stability, or is it only noticeable at peak times?

Thanks!

I’m having a weird issue and not sure what else to check.

HP Pro 400 G9 desktop (i3, 32GB RAM) connected to a Samsung 27" ViewFinity S7 4K monitor.

When I leave the PC idle and come back, it sometimes gets stuck on the HP Wolf Security screen and I have to hard reboot.

I already tried:

  • Different identical PC → same issue
  • HDMI and DisplayPort → same issue
  • Updated BIOS and graphics driver
  • Changed power/sleep settings (no sleep, high performance)

When I switch to a basic HP 24" monitor, the problem disappears completely.

So it seems like it’s related to the Samsung monitor somehow.

Anyone seen something like this before?

Thanks

We log in to company computers using our employee number and password, and all computers are part of the company domain. During login, group policy settings apply, and then the desktop loads normally.

However, sometimes when I turn on my computer, it gets stuck on the HP Wolf Security screen and does not proceed. I have to restart several times. Other times, when I leave the computer and it goes to sleep, it gets stuck on a black screen related to HP Wolf Security when I return.

IT has already replaced the computer, but the same issue persists. Power and sleep settings have been adjusted, and the network cable and monitor have been checked.

This has been happening for several days. What could be the issue?
