Should I pause paying into a 401k for a while if the economy crashes again?

Let me start out by saying I’m not making rash and sudden decisions, I want to better understand what’s happened and what considerations I should think about as we continue through a shitty US economy. I’m not asking this to scramble and pull all my money out, but to ask if there are any scenarios at all in which is it worth it to consider pausing or lessening 401k contributions for a period of time.

With the internet gossip saying that hedge funds are betting against the economy, the AI bubble is just waiting to pop at some point in the future, Japan and Koreas economies are canaries in a coal mine and private equity having access to 401ks
Idk if it’s fear mongering or truth telling but seems like the common thread is private equity trying to get access to 401k money and big corps stealing from regular people. I’m just a regular person trying to figure out what the fuck is going on lmao

I’m 31, make 70k a year, contribute 10% of my salary in a single household. I have a little bit of an emergency fund, like 2 months worth. Less than 17k debt of student loans and credit cards combined. I know investing is you wanna keep contributing as much and as long as I can. And that I’m young and have time to my retirement.
I don’t need specific advice I just want to know what I should be on the look out for.

I want to know is there a scenario or point at which paying into my 401k is just handing money to Corporate CEOs with extra steps? I want to keep paying off my debt and saving money and if there’s a “trigger” or something I should be on the look for that lets me know “yup. Wrap it up. Investing in your 401k is just handing money to AI CEOs”
I would not mind pausing for a year or two and putting that money towards my own debt or savings instead. Turn my 2 months of safety net into 3 months. Finish my debt faster. Maybe open a HYSA (on my to do list) and put the money I would have put into my 401k into that instead for a while until the impending mess blows over.

I don’t understand all the mechanisms or systems lol I’ll rewatch the big short but if my money is going to be “invested” but actually save an AI company fro falling I’d rather pause the investment for a short while and put that money into my own financial goals

How do you make peace with the face that distancing yourself from someone is the only way to be okay, when you know they will internalize it?

I need to distance myself from a family member who is constantly negative, quick to anger, quick to judge, very short temper, very little patience, does not want to hear advice, isn't proactive about preemptively solving problems, doesn't do simple things to prevent problems from happening again. Consistently puts a stick in their own bicycle and then releases that anger at everyone else. Sometimes getting mad at others, sometimes being unable to control their own anger and just releasing it towards people who have nothing to do with the situation

I don't want to cut them off because they have a child I care about, and know I will need to be a support for as the child gets older. So i am just pulling back and giving them the space to be all these things on their own.

I can see other family members have backed away a bit too, and friendships have ended, this person now has a nonexistent circle of friends. With all of their friends there is always a falling out but its easy to see that their behavioral patterns are the common denominator.

I suspect three things

  • That it will only be a matter of time before my family member feels this isolation. They are in their late 20s and I could see it be received as "I have space" or "Everyone left me alone" and then that will be a fight or discussion at some point in the future
  • That they will grow bitter and resentful that their life is harder while thinking that our lives are easier. Which may be true, they constantly made decisions that it was very easy how it would make life more difficult in the immediate or distant future
  • That they will live their whole life thinking everyone else always did them wrong. They are ALWAYS a victim, and never able to see themselves as someone who can do harm to someone else, and when you do point it out, its always justified in some way.

I have historically been one of the punching bags for this person. I don't want to be the villain in this persons story, but it's hard when they villainize everyone. They are subconsciously addicted to being angry, it is the easiest emotion to grab, the first thing that kicks in. I know that I am no exception to a rule. Patterns of behavior done to everyone else will eventually be directed at you.

For anyone who has had to distance themselves from someone, what did you do in anticipation for the next cycle of anger that you know will be directed at you at some unknown point in the future for not being there the way they wanted?

I don't even know how to continue a healthy relationship with them because every time we talk it's about how exhausted they are, how someone made them mad, how they don't have the brain power to think, on occasion depressed, every new life development and change is met with tears and endless processing, triggers are everywhere, its a landmine. And endless "I have the right to assert myself in the messiest, rawest, angriest way possible." Which yes, you do, but when thats the default approach, everyones getting tired of it.

1.5 layover at CLT from international flight - is there anything I can do to expedite my process?

It’s my first time flying to CLT but not my first time traveling. This is obviously a much tighter layover than I’d like but I didn’t book the tickets and it was unavoidable- a work trip where I am flying to 3 different places.its the layover that was offered by the airline is my understanding. For the first leg of my trip I am landing in Charlotte from an international flight, have a 1.5 hour layover and then am flying to Portland Maine.
I am mostly nervous for this tight layover.

-Me+ a partner.
-Landing in CLT on a Sunday around 6:30 pm
-We have 2 checked bags each (we will be arriving from a 2 month long trip and still have more to go once we land) so in this case checked bags were unavoidable.
-We have the MPC app
-We paid for seats at the front of the plane (not first class but the first row for economy)
-We don’t have global entry for when we land from our international flight but we do have TSA pre check for once we get through immigration and customs.

My main question: Aside from these steps, is there anything else I can do to expedite the process?

What I’ve gathered is getting through Precheck is easy, getting through customs with the MPC app is easy. Only thing that might be time consuming is getting our checked bags.
I can handle it being a tight squeeze but doable. But how bad is the AA bag drop? Also is checking bags relatively smooth sailing or chaotic?

Should I see if I can extend my layover (not sure if I can. I’m already set to land at my destination at 10:30 pm) but I would rather try to see what I can do if it’s a pipe dream.

Apple Account is not Valid or Not supported even when i try to "Recover my account"

Visiting my grandma for the next few weeks and her phone (you know how it is) is prompting her to login to her apple account every 30-60 minutes. she can still use her phone its just an annoying pop up
2 Problems

  • She is using an old defunct email service which I am trying to rectify with her newer email she set up on her own
    • I was hoping to make her a new apple account with her new email but every time I try to attach her phone number it tells me "Apple Account is not Valid or Not supported"
  • Every time I use a link to try to put in her phone number or email or make one I STILL GET "Apple Account is not Valid or Not supported"

Is there anything I can do or is it useless and I should take it to the apple store

She's worried about access to her photos, she doesnt have that many apps that it would be a problem but she has about 250 photos or so- anything I could do ahead of time to preserve them would be also appreciated in case we get to the apple store and they need to wipe everything.

Hate having irregular periods sometimes

I have had irregular periods my entire life. Since I started getting periods. Long before I was sexually active. I’m 30 now and occasionally I get a longer than normal irregular times between periods and i hate it 😪 sometimes anywhere from 2-3 months.
I’m debating going to get checked to see if I have PCOS. And I’m looking for advice on how you exactly do that.

I haven’t had my period in maybe three and a half months. I have had negative pregnancy tests and no pregnancy symptoms.
I have the Copper IUD so my periods aren’t affected by that. I gained some weight (I’m 5’4 and went from 220 to around 250 lbs) so I’m wondering if that also is having an effect on my period.
I have recently started to make active changes in my lifestyle to lose weight. And right now I’m on a six week trip and considering buying pregnancy tests to just continue to test. I took a couple of tests before my trip began.
Again I’ve had irregular periods my entire life and I’ve had longer stretches then others so this isn’t NOT normal but sometimes the longer stretches give you more anxiety. This is pushing me to take my health more seriously as well. So idk maybe this is a good scare in the long term. But when I return from this trip I am considering going to get checked out to see if I do have PCOS and what other measures in my life I can take to help manage my health. I’ve recently gotten to a point where I feel less shame about my body and it’s helping me be more proactive then embarrassed and pushing things back.

Any advice on this process would be much appreciated.

Learning to sleep on back and have slight pain/discomfort- is this normal? For how long ?

I am in the process of fixing lots of little things about myself. Stretching on a regular basis. Trying to improve my alignment. Strengthen my core. Strengthen my back hips and thighs etc. and now I’m trying to incorporate back sleeping. I do generally feel less pain and tension in my body (a lot) since I began this process. But now I’ve started to incorporate sleeping on my back, I feel a bit of pain/tension/stretching??
It’s not alarming by any means. It’s just kinda uncomfortable. I have pillows under my legs.
Is this normal and/or is this a positive sign that I’m heading in the right direction and I just have to deal with it until it goes away?

Lost passport, need an emergency appointment, do I have to do the police report?

I am a dual US/Mexican citizen in Los Angeles. I recently got my Mexican citizenship and got my passport with my birth certificate.
I am going to Mexico June 8th (today is May 24th) and lost my Mexican passport. I tore my house apart looking for it, and then set an appointment at the consulate for the emergency passport for the 29th through WhatsApp.

Do I have to report my passport lost/stolen to the police? I see on the Mexican consulate website it asks for that but when I click the form the year of the form is outdated 201__ instead of 202__

Even though I am also a US citizen I am a bit anxious to go and make a formal police report with everything going on with ICE. I do not want that on record in case there is any mix up in the future.

Does anyone know how strict they are about that specific part of the emergency passport process?

I am so angry at myself I’ve never lost anything this important before. I’m trying to stay as calm as possible.
