[BitD] Rituals for a vigilante whisper

Two weeks ago, I've finally picked the Ritual special ability. I didn't really want to, but the story of the campaign now involves a powerful supernatural creature messing with us, and it was either Ritual or Strange Methods to begin working on a way to defend against it. I have no Tinker, so the choice was really made for me. I'm now doing clocks to research this defensive ritual.

But this still leaves me with one ritual I get just for picking this ability. I've been agonizing with trying to come up with one for quite some time, and I just can't. I'm too DnD-brained for this system.

We're a vigilante crew, most of our scores are about entering a hostile turf and either killing everyone there, or just beating them up. Despite being a whisper, I'm living my best lurk life by sneaking around and choking people out. Sometimes I like to throw a spirit bottle with a ghost into a room like a flashbang grenade. NPCs don't have resistance rolls, so they freeze up nicely.

I've joined this game to larp as Corvo, and I've been thinking about a ritual that stops time, but what would it really achieve? What can it do, that a good Prowl roll or Ghost Veil can't? It's only one ritual I get, so I've gotta make it count. We're already great at doing scores, I don't need any more help in that regard. I want to be able to do something special. I want to solve problems we can't normally solve with the muggle means.

And I guess our main problems are these:

  1. Nobody likes us, except the Citizens factions.
  2. Spirit wardens have decided that out of all whispers, they don't like me specifically.
  3. We have legions of powerful enemies, who just refuse to reveal themselves and act through ignorant patsies. We never know anything about anyone.
  4. Constant risk of collateral damage, which is something we ideally want to avoid, being the nominal good guys of Duskwall.

So I guess I want either some sort of a social ritual that somehow improves our standing, or some kind of a detective ability that allows me to point at Lord Scurlock and say "It's him, he's the hidden benefactor behind the Crows".

But what would such rituals look like? What would they actually do?

They exist! I have seen one!

A few wacky houses spawned not far from my spawn point - one had three freezers, a shit ton of food and ammunition, the other was a survivor house with a lot of books and sledgehammer.

Honestly, if there was a generator magazine and a stove nearby too, this could be the playthrough done right there.

Who is the Steiner of the mod?

When we're making jokes about Steiner attacks saving Vesapolis, who we're actually supposed to make jokes about?

I've been thinking about Bjornling. Sure, he's not even a changeling general, but Chrysalis counting on him of all people to save CHN is a funny thought.

[TOMT] "The UN, the highest moral authority in the world, has decided that this bullet is humane to shoot people with."

This isn't the exact quote, but that's the gist of it - a cynical commander (drill sergeant?) talking about ammunition to the troops. I've thought it's Full Metal Jacket, but that's not it. It's not Apocalypse Now either.

What's your favourite elimination method?

For me, it's poison by far. I like being halfway across the map when the target dies. Usually not possible in Freelancer, but if I'm doing story mode, it's lethal poison time.

Great War speedrun

In her infinite wisdom, Chrysalis decided that the best way to win the war would be to concentrate all her forces against the Crystal Empire and leave her victory points undefended.

Anybody's party actually found the Luck Blade?

Probably the most powerful and well-hidden item in the adventure, and the one parties always walk by without finding it.

Anybody's group actually managed to find it? What did they do with it?

Craziest things you've seen AI do on historical?

  1. Bronzehill establishes regency, defeats the republicans (seen it twice)
  2. Tobuck defeats Chiropterra
  3. Equestria easily defeats the Changelings, without Stalliongrad's help or being pushed back even near Cantrelot

[JoJo] How did Qtaro Cujoh live this long?

When Pucci causes the big crunch and then recreates the universe, Jotaro is dead and replaced by Qtaro, who doesn't have a stand. However, the history of this new world is incredibly similar to the old timeline, and Qtaro still managed to get to the same point anyway and sire Waspine.

So... Did he go to Egypt? Did he defeat Dio without a stand? He has to have done it, right? There is no way that Dio never existed, or the plot of Stardust Crusaders didn't happen - it butterflies too much away. So, what was Qtaro's life like up until we see him in the visitation room?

How many twist rulers there are in the mod?

I'm not talking about someone who can become a different ideology through some sort of character development, but "Mwahahaha, you've thought I was X, but I was actually Y this whole time".

So I can instantly think of Hera and Nyaberi Zargey. Who else?

I've always thought Rod's plan is rather questionable. He gambles on being able to kidnap Eren (a dangerous titan shifter), he gambles on being convince Historia (who has no positive memories of him whatsoever) to go along with his plan and eat her friend of many years, he gambles on Historia somehow being able to do what no king of the walls has ever done, and he enacts this plan before Wall Maria was retaken - so if Historia doesn't destroy the titans, humanity is fucked. Operating purely with the information Rod had, the whole plan seems very shaky - not even the end bit, but the whole thing.

Why not talk to Erwin? Lay all cards on the table - this is what I know about titans, this is what's been happening under Uri and Frieda's orders, this is what I think they've intended to achieve. Sorry about your father, but I'm a different man, and I want to free humanity. Please hand over Eren to be eaten by my daughter, so she can achieve that. On the off chance that she's not able to do that, we'll still have a titan. Historia was in the top 10 of the cadet corps, so it's not like it'll be a huge downgrade from Eren.

Erwin is very famously a gambling man. In the end, he sacrificed most of the scout regiment and himself in order to win a battle. If the government didn't actively antagonize him and the scouts, he'd probably go for it. Is there a good reason why Rod didn't just try talking?

I'm trying to play as the junta, and it's not going well.

The first time around I've tried winning with 6 inf/1 art superior firepower. I've failed to capture any of the areas the games wants me to in time, but I did end up winning the civil war. Then Stalliongrad justified on me and easily steamrolled me with an army twice my size.

The second time I've somehow done even worse. This time I decided to rely on motorized infantry - I did manage to get one of the areas, but my losses did not justify the gains. Eventually Stalliongrad intervened in the war and steamrolled me.

It seems like no matter what I do, I'm fucked. I can't attack, because the rebels are roughly as powerful as I am - and the moment they start losing, they call in Stalliongrad. I can't stay on the defensive either, because if I take too long, it will just give Stalliongrad time to prepare for its own war. How do I beat these goddamn commies?
