Six spot burnet on Clough Road this afternoon

I've yet to see these anywhere else in Hull, even where there's lots of nettles and wildflowers.

The third anniversary session I really enjoyed despite not being able to make the most of it

As some of you know, (and I've even met at least one guy who's posted on this sub who's attended the sessions) I love attending the board games meetup at Brew every Thursday and even when I'm the one with bottom points in the strategy games we play, the atmosphere and the absolutely fantastic people there help me quickly forget the disappointment, although Thursday this week's session was amazing, I got second place out of myself and three others in a strategy game. I think were it not me reading stuff on this sub, Thursday evenings would be pretty dull for myself as I wouldn't ever have known such sessions on Thursdays even existed.

Anyway, to get to the point, it was decided to put on a Saturday session to mark the third anniversary of when the sessions started in the first place, we started at 12 o'clock and intended to be finished by 23:00. Very regrettably indeed, I was only able to stay for three and a half hours, due to family commitments, but I always try to put my grandparents first, as they try to for me to make up for when my mum didn't, but that's for another post and sub altogether.

The first game I joined in with was rather meh for me, I scored bottom, but the second game I played before having to leave was a racing circuit game called Heat, which I remember playing in the early days of me attending the sessions. It's a bit difficult for me to explain the game fully without having it in front of me, but it involves shifting gears and your gear positions dictates to how many cards you play at once and how many cards you play can have a bad impact if you aren't careful enough, as at the bends, there are some number limits where if you exceed them, it can cause you to stop and skid and fall behind everyone else.

Me and five others were playing and I finished 5th place and one guy I felt disappointed for as I was actually hoping he was going to beat me and it looked like he was going to do so too ended up in a looped situation of stopping and skidding at a corner as he had run out of the types of cards needed to help avoid such a situation and he said it was possible to break the loop and get to the finish line eventually with a bit of thinking, but he conceded defeat saying that even if he did, he would still be 6th place either way, so that allowed me to take the penultimate place.

I reckon I could have done slightly better, but I still really enjoyed it and we had a few laughs along the way too. Despite only getting to play two games, I got to have a few laughs and catch ups with one or two of the regulars, including one I hadn't seen for at least two weeks, they really liked one of my wildlife pictures.

All in all, it really made a Saturday afternoon far less dull for myself and if anyone there is reading this, I really hope you enjoyed every minute and had lots of fun.

Comma butterfly, despite the wind and grey sky in Hull during this afternoon

The commas in the particular patch of brambles I took this one in are usually very quick to fly off and hide when I even catch a glimpse of them there for a few seconds, so was pleasantly surprised that despite the lack of a clear sky for optimal sunlight, it took me no more than five minutes at the most to get a decent photo of this one.

What synth was likely used on Cutting Crew's 'Between A Rock And A Hard Place'?

I'm particularly interested in where the metal hit sound likely came from right at the start at 0:09 between them saying 'Between a rock' and 'Between a rock and a hard place'.

Part of me is thinking it could have been some kind of Roland synth the metal hit came from, but I have a strong feeling it could have been from a Yamaha DX7. I know the song's album was recorded in 1989, so by then the Yamaha DX7 was very likely falling out of fashion, but when I've watched YouTube demos of the synth playing a bells sound, the resemblance to me is strong.

Red admiral in a cemetery woodland enjoying our heatwave

I would have thought that during such a heat wave that butterflies such as this would be relatively easy to get a close up picture of, but I spent at least two hours literally walking around in circles in the area trying to get some kind of close up like I just did in this photo, only for it to either immediately fly away, have another butterfly type chase it away, land in a spot that's right in front of me, but too high up to get a meaningful picture of or not fly away when approached, but fold it's wings up or face the wrong way or constantly open and close it's wings.

Painted lady butterfly on the wildflower patch on Anlaby Road behind a bus stop and next to the white and blue high rise

I don't remember seeing a single one of these in that spot this time last year, although there were others like peacock, comma and red admirals.

Large yellow underwing and longhorn moths and painted lady and red admiral butterflies

I also saw a cinnabar moth in the area, but it promptly hid in a bush and didn't reappear when I attempted a picture of it.

Deer in Pearson Park and surrounding area

Has anyone in this area seen any deer recently? I saw one yesterday running out of the corner of the park where the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust garden is and someone told me the recently saw a deer in the cemetery woodland on Spring Bank.
