£1 meals?

My family and I have been watching beyondfoodmarket on YouTube, and have found inspiration for very cheap, but very healthy meals.

I've been challenging the kids, when we do the weekly food shop, by giving them £1 and letting them choose the ingredients for dinner.

Naturally they've run out of ideas by now.

We generally shop at Aldi (UK). Any ideas or inspiration you could give them?

An original poem I wrote to go along with the Starmer resignation jam memes

Fuck you Starmer.

Fuck you Starmer!

It’s time to get out of number ten, Starmer!

What were you even doing there in the first place, Starmer!?

You didn’t even get properly elected Starmer!

Are you happy now, Starmer?

Fuck you Starmer.

A thought about Mark and Jeff

In the end, does Mark kind of "win"?

Mark was the one to father a child with Sophie. Jeff is raising another man's child for him.

Mark made Jeff a cuckold.

Mark wins. In the most minor way possible.

[TOMT][UK] A low budget world cinema/Asian film shown on channel 4 in the early 00s

Hi all — I’m trying to track down a film I saw on Channel 4 (or possibly Film4) in the UK sometime in the early 2000s. It was part of one of their late-night world cinema strands.

I believe it was Japanese (possibly Chinese/Taiwanese/Korean, but it felt like Tokyo and I remember it as Japanese). It was very low-budget, shot on grainy DV/camcorder style, and followed a group of ordinary twenty-somethings just hanging around in the city.

There wasn’t much of a traditional plot — more like slacker-style drifting between apartments, streets, and quiet urban spaces.

Scenes I remember:

A conversation by a busy road/highway where the group says a young-looking woman can go into a pharmacy to buy a medicine because she looks young enough (possibly something restricted to minors or age-limited OTC medication).

Later, in an apartment bathroom, one of the men urinates and believes semen is coming out. He calls the others in, visibly worried it might mean he’s ill, and asks them to look.

Other details:

Setting felt like Tokyo (clean, modern, quiet residential/urban mix)

Group of friends/students, just drifting around

Very naturalistic, almost documentary feel

No big dramatic plot that I can remember

Very early 2000s Channel 4 “world cinema” late-night vibe

I’ve never been able to find it since. It’s not a well-known film, or it may have been broadcast under a different title in the UK.

Any help appreciated — this has been stuck in my head for years.

If you were the Sun, how would you measure time?

On Earth, we measure time based on the rotation of the planet (a day), smaller measurements based on that first measurement (hours, minutes, seconds), and our orbit of the sun (a year).

We also measure the orbits and rotations of other planets and heavenly bodies the same way.

But we don't measure the sun. And we don't know how the sun would measure time itself.

It certainly wouldn't care about the rotation of any planet, especially earth, or how long it takes any of its planets to orbit it.

So if you were the sun, how would you measure time?

This happened today. Am I a victim of a hate crime?

I am a self employed window cleaner and a full time single parent. I have no family to help with childcare during half terms, nor can I afford to pay for childcare. My child has learning difficulties (including an EHCP), and comes to work with me during half terms.

I had three houses close together as usual on my round today. Whilst I did one, my child went round to the house next door (another customer) to ask to play with their daughter. This is a regular occurrence during half terms, and this customer is always happy to have my child round as it means that her daughter has somebody to play with for an hour or so.

After I had finished the first house, I went to this customer's house to clean their windows. The customer asked me, very politely, to leave them. I said that's no problem. She then asked me to take my child with me. I said no problem, but I could tell that something was clearly up.

After we left and went to the next house, I received this text message.

She mentioned that my child had been afraid of her dog and asked for her to be put indoors, but the customer said no as it was too hot. Not a problem, and the kids played just fine (I could see and hear them from next door where I was working).

The main issue is her problem with me wearing makeup. I'm male, but I have gender dysphoria and identify as a woman. Not too many people know about this, but I don't hide it.

The previous clean of her house was four weeks ago. Since then, she has messaged me to ask me to do a friend's windows for them, and given no hint of having any problem whatsoever. Perfectly polite and friendly.

Today, I get this.

I can understand any frustration about children. However it's never once been a problem before, but I understand that people change their minds. That's fine.

However, I have now lost a customer, and money, due to her issues with me wearing makeup. The most I would have been wearing would have been some light mascara and eyeliner. Maybe some nail polish. That's it.

So, my question is, is this a hate crime? Is it considered transphobia?
