Bummer I have to leave a negative post, but I guess don't buy from this guy. Sent him $85 last Sunday, was supposed to ship last Monday/Tuesday never did, said he had an issue then just stopped responding. I will definitely take this down if He ever gets back to me, but as of now he took my money then stopped responding.

Really wanted that KAT card too...

Greeting quasi reddit card collector/freshly interested in card collecting person(s).

So you've found your way over to the r/sportscards subreddit with, presumably a card that you are asking yourself - What do I do? Or more likely, asking us fellow redditors, what do you do?! Well, have a seat, buckle up and read on...

The first thing you need to know is that by posting a "what do I do" thread, you are going to be told to first and foremost, to stick said card up your butt (See exhibit A). And it will be Stanley telling you to do so (don't worry, you'll figure it out eventually). Don't take offense, laugh it off and move on. It is a prized accomplishment to be the first person to inform you of your new sticking up of the butt, one which to date, I've only accomplished once.

EXHIBIT A --

Second, you should go check out electronic bay, otherwise known as eBay. It's a website where you can sell things. Think of it as the worlds largest garage sale. It's been around for a little bit now and you can see how much other people have sold their trinkets and do-dads for. If you go to the little search bar at the top and type in the thing you wondering about - in this case that newly acquired card of yours - it shows you allllllllll the other ones just like it that you can purchase. Now don't be fooled, some people think their trinkets are worth a lot more than they actually are. Believe it or not eBay doesn't care if you've over priced your do-dad by hundreds or even thousands of dollars. The key here is to look at what your card has ACTUALLY sold for. Over on the left hand side of the eBay search results you can filter it by "SOLD ITEMS" (See exhibit B ). In this part of the filtered results you can see what each listing has sold for. THIS is what you want to use as a comparison (or Comp, as some peoples say)

EXHIBIT B --

Now I know what you're thinking -- There are so many cards and variables (parallels) in the card world, I don't know what this card is?? It's true, there are a lot, and I mean A LOT of them. Outside of the card experts, who can tell you what any card is at any time (probably because they've stuck so many of them up their own butts) most of us just need to look at the card and find the clues. Lets take this one for example --

https://preview.redd.it/1tt996zindyg1.png?width=888&format=png&auto=webp&s=4e3ad1ca7bb4e61d5d9fd8f0f299c6bea2054ef2

OK so we are looking for a few hints at what this card is first is Brand, in this case Topps, then the player name, Mr Kirk, then if you flip the card over, you can find the date (usually at the very bottom in the small print) and the set name - Series 2 (See exhibit C). Keep in mind, not all cards are the same, some sets are harder to find these details, but this is a great starting point on your journey to NOT sticking it up your butt.

EXHIBIT C --

Once you've searched for these basic items, you'll know pretty quick how you did. If the results look like the card you have in your hands, then you won! You've successfully not stuck it up your butt. If the results do NOT look like the card in your hands, then we've got some work to do. I won't get too deep into the parallel names and card variations, as those are perfectly acceptable questions to ask the reddit community, we're here because you want to know "what to do" not what "parrallel is this?"

Now there is another great site called 130point.com. I'm not personally as familar with this one, but all the same rules apply, and arguably, based on what I've see and read myself, its possibly (but not guaranteed) better than eBay. I'll let you head on over there and try out it, you may be surprised what you can do once you actually try.

OK, so you know what the card is, that's not what you meant. You meant like, "WHAT DO I DO?" with this card. Well, if sticking it up your butt isn't your first choice, I guess I'd toss the questions back at you -- What do you want to do with it? Are you actually asking us if you should sell it now or hold it in hopes that it goes up in price? If so, please be much more specific with your question in the future. You'll probably get quite a few less sarcastic answers if you ask a specific question about the specific card in your hands.

Maybe you meant more of like, OMG I got this redemption and I've never had a redemption, and I don't know what to do with it, or how to start my redemption, also what is a redemption and why does this card have an expiration date on it???? OK OK slow down, it'll all be ok - You can refer to the guide above where I said, Please be more specific. Don't post a picture of your newly acquired redemption card (or whatever the hell it is that you are now not sticking up your butt) and ask "What do I do". You can instead say, Hey team, I've never done a redemption card before, how do I go about this, and can I sell the redemption card instead of redemption-ing it? The answer is yes, you can sell it - just head back over to that electronic Bay that I was telling you about and seek the answer.

Maybe you meant something completely different from either of those two scenarios, who the hell knows, the point being "what do I do" is super vague and will only garner a race to Stanley telling you to stick it up your butt.

Alright, I'm getting pretty tired of typing now, so my final two points of advice are this -

  1. Chances are if you are coming to reddit to ask a question, there is almost certainly someone who has asked a similar, if not the EXACT question you are asking. Reddit has its own search bar that you can type things into and get answers pretty easy. If you are too lazy to do that, and would prefer to start your own post, my advice is to...Yes you guessed it, say it with me -- "Stick it up your butt"

  2. Enjoy the damn card. Enjoy opening packs with your kid, or your brother, or your dad. Enjoy looking at the players, collecting your favorite team. Enjoy figuring out what card you have and deep diving into the hobby. Enjoy the hobby for being just that. A hobby. Its fun, I promise you. Sports cards are fun and you should be less concerned with how much you might be able to sell it for and more concerned with how much joy it is or is not bringing you. I sell cards, I open cards, I collect cards, I love cards. There are so many things I don't love about this hobby, but there are so many more that I do love. I'm sure there are plenty of people on here who will have more advice, or things to add, so go ahead and add it. With love of the hobby - me

PS or just sell the damn card and continue gambling you degenerate SOB

PSS please excuse any typos, wrong information, or things you disagree with. I was not paid for this post.
