I finally organised my bookshelves and here is my current Holmes collection.
Last November my fiancée gifted me three volumes of LotR. I watched movies before, and they were pretty good. But they nowhere near excited me as much as the novel did. I loved it to bits. I was so engaged in the story and in this world, so it was a no brainer to deep dive further into Middle-earth. I read Hobbit and loved it. I read Silmarillion and it blew my mind, I absolutely loved the first and second ages. Then I read Children of Hurin and Fall of Numenor and I loved them too. I even got Bilbo's Last Song and The Atlas of Middle-earth.
Unfinished Tales, Fall of Gondolin and Beren and Lúthien should arrive next month. So I definitely far from done with Legendarium. But I can't stop wondering what I will read next. To be honest, I wasn't a fan of reading "analytical" and "scholarly" introductions of Children of Hurin and Fall of Numenor. I don't really like behind the scenes or alternative and earlier versions of the stories. So I assumed that History of Middle-earth is not really for me. I'm mainly interesting in stories and narratives that will add to THE version of Middle-earth.
But History of Middle-earth is such a big and varied collection of different works and also I've heard a good things about its later volumes that I still wonder whether some of them are worth picking out in my situation. I will greatly appreciate your help.
May Elbereth protect you all!

I always saw a lot of parallels between these movie series. Both are very long with a lot of entries. Both reinvented themselves multiple times. Both started pretty serious and got goofier in Connery (feat. Lazenby) and first half of Showa eras. Then both got completely goofy in Moore and second phase of Showa eras. Then both reinvented themselves in Dalton/Brosnan and Heisei eras as darker and more serious films but both have some over the top sci-fi elements (for example time travel in "vs Ghidorah" and invisible car in "Die Another Day"). Then rebooted themselves one more time at the start of a new millennium with bold, slick and modern look.
It is also very interesting that Godzilla already relaunched one more time with visionaries like Hideaki Anno and Takashi Yamazaki and returned to its original post World War II setting. But 007 is only starting his own chapter, also with a great visionary Dennis Villeneuve directing his new movie, while a lot of people (including me) want him to return to 1960s – his original cinema setting.
What do you think about these parallel paths? Which eras do you like more? What are the future of these franchises? Do you like them at all?
It was a nice month for me.
Firstly I saw Birds of Fire in a physical store and couldn’t resist buying it (although it would have probably cost less online). Original line up of Orchestra was unbelievable.
Secondly I always wanted particularly a Deluxe edition of Get to Heaven because bonus tracks are great but I couldn’t track it down for a reasonable price. But I incidentally saw a back cover of regular edition in one of the listings with all bonus tracks so I ordered it and it was deluxe version indeed.
And finally I never would have hoped that I‘d see second hand Big Bad Voodoo Daddy locally and for cheap (3 bucks). So it was a no brainer. I‘ve never seen this wolf from back cover before but he is really cool!
I needed order to be ~12 dollars for a free delivery, so I also added Black Holes and Screamadelica to that order. I love Muse very much but I‘ve never listened to Primal Scream’s masterpiece (although I was aware of it and knew its first track from San Andreas). And oh boy, it is gorgeous! I’ve never listened to such a mix of psychedelic rock and techno. It was a great find.
