Question about power supply for Hammond A 100

I found a pretty good deal for a hammond on marketplace. It doesn’t list what model exactly but looks to be an a-100. Essentially they listed it as non-functional purely because they don’t have a power cable for it. So, I’m planning to buy a power cable for it and go see if the thing works or not.

I’m wondering if there is a specific brand or power supply that I should buy for it or will any power supply that can plug into it work?

Also does the hammond power the leslie via the 6 pin cable or does the leslie need its own power supply?

Should I buy an m3 or wait a year or 2 and save up for a b3?

I have the opportunity to snag an m3 for a couple hundred bucks and I’m pretty interested in the thought of owning an authentic tonewheel organ! I have an xk-1 right now paired with a neo ventilator and it’s great but it would be cool to have the real deal.

The main thing that I’m hesitant on is the percussion that comes with a b3 plus the foldover with the upper octaves, both of which the m3 lacks.

Thoughts?

12/30/19 tweezer ends with the same riff as the SPAC soundcheck Jam :)

But the 12/30/19 tweezer trey ends the riff on the 5th instead of the tonic like he does in the sound check jam. Almost identical!

do with this info what you will.

I wonder if thats what they meant by “do you get it?”

CK-88 vs RD-88

Wondering which is the best overall for acoustic piano, rhodes and clav sounds for a gigging musician. Essentially I’m looking for a keyboard that will give me the closest approximation of the real deal.

Dicks Picks 12 is so good its not even funny!

Such a good live album, every time I listen to it, I’m floored. The China>Rider jam is top notch, almost undisputed. truckin into the other one is essentially a 1 way ticket to the Phil zone. The spanish jam is beautiful and mysterious and it just keeps getting better.

I think the peak of the album is the weather report suite and subsequent mind left body jam. It leaves me speechless and is truly one of those jams that you really feel rather than hear. It pierces my soul

The songs proceeding that monster jam are a good way to put the pieces back together after melting apart, ending with a melancholic ship of fools. I love the way Bobby says bye at the end. He sounds almost sad but in a good way.

Anyways that was my rant/review of one of my favorite pieces of GD content. Have a good day 🤙🏻

dumb question: does buying a ticket to a show give you access to the recording after?

I have seen a few posts about live phish codes from certain shows and I'm a little confused. Do you get access to the recording just from attending the show? if so how does one access these codes? I have an LP subscription but I know my brother and fam would love to relisten to the shows they attended this summer :)

thanks y'all

looking for advice on the Ronnie Spector method in regards to transients like dishes

hello y'all, I'm a hyperacusis baby having just experienced acoustic trauma 11 days ago. I have been reading up on the Ronnie Spector method and it all makes sense except for one thing. transient noises like dishes clattering.

I'm not sure whether to avoid these sounds all together or not. I got my LDL levels checked and it seems I am comfortable at 75db for low to mid frequencies but it drops off to about 50-60db towards the upper mid and high frequencies.

what this tells me is that most mid frequencies are fine but its high pitched ones that make me uncomfortable.

Any advice?

Feeling shame after having to pause rehearsals due to tinnitus and ear pain

After a particularly loud gig yesterday, I’m experiencing a tinnitus flare. I’m no stranger to tinnitus dealing with it on and off for years. I’m almost 20 now and have been playing regularly in a jazz fusion band, which is unfortunately causing this ringing to worsen at an alarming pace.

I have been using high fidelity ear plugs since we started the band about 6months ago, going to an ENT for a hearing test and I’m looking into custom molded ear plugs.

I just can’t get over how crappy I feel telling my bandmates I need to take a break until I get control over this. I feel like I’m letting them down and letting myself down by having these issues.

Yes I know I’m in a jazz rock band and should expect loud volumes but I can’t handle messing up my ears gigging around town at a young age.

The Spac release is going to be great

  1. I doubt they are not going to give back the shows to people who already bought them

  2. The new release will include sound check jam

  3. It will be mixed and mastered with more care so high audio fidelity

I rest my case…

Help needed mixing just organ and bass guitar for rehearsal

I hope this isn't a question that should be referred to the help desk but we will see I suppose...

Recently I have been rehearsing with a jazz fusion group which at times gets very loud. The common problem I keep running into is the keyboard and bass (both DI) are pretty quiet in the room when we rehearse.

I'm lucky enough to have the opportunity to plug into a mixer and PA system each time we practice, it's not my system so I get worried about clipping, which ultimately ends up happening most times anyways. the bassist and I try to mix it to where we are both present and can hear ourselves over top of the drummer and guitarist who aren't mic'ed up. I usually hit the low cut filter on the organ's channels (stereo) to make room for the bassist (mono). I try to make sure the organ still has some low end because a real Leslie has a lot of low end. for reference I use a Neo ventilator 2. Anyways, aside from the HPF I try to leave the keyboards EQ alone to preserve the ventilators sound which is already simulating a mic'd Leslie.

For the past few weeks now I have been progressively turning up the gain on the PA speakers themselves in order to give us more headroom since the mixer almost always ends up redlining... (Mackie thumps, not sure which model exactly but I believe they're around 1400 W, not sure about the SPL)

the thing that troubles me is the master meter always starts at unity gain and by the end of the rehearsal the volume jumps up and we end up almost redlining the thing and are consistently in the yellow. The master gain on the speakers were at 50% but after steadily increasing its closer to 75%. Also the gain on the channels the cables from the mixer are feeding into are set for line level according to the manual's specifications. However, like I said our volume aways gets louder and the mixer ends up clipping. I haven't had the opportunity to see if the speakers overload LED flashes and I haven't heard any audible clipping but the mixer speaks for itself.

TL;DR Mixing just bass and keys for rehearsal, levels start off at unity gain but by the end the mixer is clipping. My ass is grass if the PA blows, pls help!

Looking for a good EP that best emulates a fender Rhodes without a pre-amp

Essentially I am a huge guitar pedal nerd and commonly find that most guitar pedals don't agree with the line level signal that the majority of modern keyboards put out. I'm on a mission to find a digital EP that can simulate the sound as well as the impedance of a fender Rhodes before the preamp/guitar amp.

Ideally I would have a fender Rhodes because it is exactly what I'm looking for; instrument level, quarter inch out directly from the pickups. However they are heavy as shit and expensive...

Good shows to play at a pool?

I’ll be lifeguarding at an outdoor pool this summer and heard through the grapevine a lot of the patrons are deadheads…

I am a fan of the mind melting primal dead (68-74) I need some more laid-back concerts that won’t get me in trouble on account for accidentally adding the wrong kind of acid to the pool xD

Throw me your best laid-back shows for chilling by the pool!

How many ppl here think Digitech should bring back the whammy 2 design?

I swear to god changing the octave button to a knob has done nothing but cause problems. Why would you want to bend down or have to adjust a knob with your foot? The whammy 2 makes complete sense just select the octave by stomping on the thing.

Ofc now you either have to mod any existing whammy or shell out close to 1000$ to get a whammy 2 🤦🏼

edit: or buy a boss pedal

Need help finding a transparent OD for Organ/Fender Rhodes

Basically I'm looking for a good overdrive pedal that provides saturation and progressive breakup. a lot of overdrives don't like the line level signal that a keyboard pumps out, the line between crunch and harsh breakup is very thin. Currently looking into the strymon deco because there are a few fender Rhodes demos on YouTube with it.

However, I'm intrigued by the klon style circuit and think it could be a good fit for the sound I'm trying to achieve. I've heard it can be a great clean gain for guitars, which makes me think it might work well paired with a keyboard that already pushes most OD pedals straight into heavy breakup territory.

if you think finding a good overdrive sound is hard for guitar, try keyboard! there are barely any demonstrations on YouTube and most circuits are designed for guitar anyways haha.

Any advice or insight into transparent overdrive pedals is appreciated!

Current SOTB

Signal chain is as follows:

Hammond XK-1 ~~> Line 6 M5 ~~> deluxe Chinese Overdrive xD ~~> Big Muff ~~> Line 6 M5 #2 ~~> Boss DD-20 ~~> RK2000 ~~> Neo Ventilator 2 ~~> Boss RV-6.

From there it goes into my mixer and then into the Boomerang + through an aux send.

Midi baby is hooked up to M5 #1 to switch between presets.

For some reason the boomerang produces a horrible hum when I have it in the main signal chain. I’m powering everything except the boomerang, RV-6 and the Vent with a voodoo labs pedal power 3 plus. The remaining pedals are powered via wallwarts. everything is connected to one outlet.

Thoughts?

Before IEM’s did phish have stereo monitors?

For example, lets say Fishman is drumming away, would he be able to hear page’s stereo effects like the fender rhodes panning and then respond in kind? I know his drum kit is panned a particular way and some of the cymbals are hard left/right which can create some cool spatial contrast…
