Indian Air Force Fighter Jet Fleet and Its Future.

Hey guys basically I want to talk about IAF future choices by 2040. This is based of my opinion so u can feel free to comment ur views on it.

IAF currently operates 29 sq of Fighter Jets (after the retirement of Mig-21 Bison) which includes 13 sq of Su30MKI,2 sq of Rafale,2 sq of Tejas Mk1,3 sq of Mig29UPG,3 sq of Mirage 2000 and 6 sq of Jaguars. And if u follow the rapid advancement of Modern military technologies then u can immediately cut of 12 sq of f8ghter jets because they are obsolete (3 sq of Mirage 2000,3 sq of Mig29UPG and 6 sq of Jaguars). So this is the current situation of IAF.

Now if talk about future then Jaguars will be fully retired by 2035,while Mirage 2000 and Mig29UPG by 2040. So we are currently facing a deficit of 12 sq. To cover this we have ordered 180 Tejas Mk1A which will cover 10 sq. And we can also relegate 2 sq of Tejas Mk1 . Meaning in total we have 25 sq (13 sq of Su30MKI,2 sq of Rafale and 10 sq of Tejas Mk1A). We are in process to buy 114 additional Rafale Meaning 6 more sq. Then the total will become 31 sq. And for our required 42 sq target the remaining gap can only be fulfilled by Tejas Mk2 and AMCA.

Me personally i think India should buy 240 Tejas Mk2 by 2040 Meaning 12 additional squadrons bringing the total to 43 sq. And try to have 7 sq of AMCA MK1 by 2040 too. Hence bringing the total fighter jet strength to 50 squadrons by 2040. That is the best case scenario.

Now we can't have 2000s tech equipped Su30MKI by 2040 can we? So for that we will upgrade 204 Su30MKI to super sukhoi standard by 2040 with buying more Su30MKI to have a full combat fleet of 13 sq of Su30MKI SS. And in the case of Rafale preferably have the entire fleet to F5 standard but it will be hard so in that case have a fleet of F4 and F5 standard Rafale with eventual plan to upgrade the entire 8 sq of Rafale Fleet to F5 standard .

And in the case of AMCA have full 7 sq in AMCA MK1(powered by GE F414 INS6 engine) and AMCA MK2 in 2040s. And also because I don't think India will import 5th gen jet like F35 or Su57(if u consider it).

So in total by 2040 have-

1)13 sq of Su30MKI Super Sukhoi

2)12 sq of Tejas Mk2/LCA AF MK2

3)10 sq of Tejas Mk1A

4)8 sq of Rafale F4/F5

5)7 sq of AMCA MK1

In short,50 sq by 2040.

This is pretty much simplified answer .

Note that this is only for manned fighter jets

Should India buy S500?

Hey As u know that India has ordered 5 regiments/squadrons/groups of S400 in 2018 at 5.43 billion dollars deal . And in that 3 squadrons has been fully delivered (1 more delivery has began),which played a critical/pivitol role during operation sindoor by helping to down 5 Pakistan Jets(200+ km range) and 1 Special Mission Aircrafts(at record 300+ km range). Because of this performance India has given approval(DAC) to buy additional 5 more groups/squadrons/regiments of S400, bringing the total to 10. This system will work alongside Kusha to provide a comprehensive air defense shield under mission sudarshan chakra by 2035.

And above this layer is our BMD program which is divided into 3 phases. In first phase(Active) it is AAD,PDV and PDV MK2, In second Phase(Fielding) it is AD-1 and AD-2 and in Third phase(Development) it is AD-AH and AD-AM.

And below this Layer is Medium Air Defense Network which is for MRSAM(70-100 km range via Barak-8 and 150 km range via Barak-8ER) and Akash(Mk1,1S,Prime,NG) to provide a comprehensive Regional air defense shield.

So i was wondering if India Should buy maybe 2 regiments/groups/squadrons of S500. IAF also initially showed interest and wanted to buy 12 squadrons of Air Defense Systems. So while 10 goes to S400 ,the remaining 2 goes to S500? Since they were also interested in S500 from the start?.

Me personally i think India should go for it. I am more interested into the Radars and Missiles of it.

As u know S500 will operate 3 Missile which is 40N6M,77N6-N and 77N6-N1. And the missile i am interested in is 40N6M that has a range of 400+ km. While the other two missiles are for ABM category.

And the Radars it operate and uses is 91N6A(M) which us basically a upgrade variant of Big Bird Radar,96L6-TsP Radar,Yenisey Radar,76T6 and 77T6 Radars, etc. I am especially interested in Radars of S500. It will be very fantastic if we can integrate it with IACCS .

Moreover the systems response time is 3-4 seconds which will help a lot. It is basically a generational leap over S400.

So while others may argue that can Russia even provide the systems, while that may be an issue but I don't think it will impact a lot. Like only in December 17,2025 Russia announced that the first full regiment has officially entered active combat duty. So we can take time. We can order it after 2028 and S500 will start being delivered after 2030 so no worries in that part. We can even ask to produce the missiles (especially 40N6M) in India. Though it might be expensive (5-6 billion dollars for 2 regiments/squadrons/groups) but I think it is worth it.

Like for the layer between BMD and Middle Layer, aka Long Range Layer i think 2 regiments/squadrons/groups of S500,10 regiments/squadrons/groups of S400 and 15 regiments/groups/squadrons of Kusha is perfect by 2035 under mission sudarshan chakra to provide a comprehensive air defense systems (SAM) network shield .

So what do u think? What are ur opinions on it?

RFP for bridge support of Rafale fleet.

Saaaar Rafale was shot down saaaar. 6-0 saaaaarrr.

Though i wonder if 1 Rafale was really shot down? Like I have seen images of Tail Number (BS-001) and engine debris of Rafale but in this document says 36 Rafale. Has a replacement of Rafale came or what? Or the airframe was not written off and was fixed??

IAF ideal Transport(Fixed-wing) Aircrafts fleet.

Me personally I think India should have a fleet of 370 transport(fixed-wing) aircrafts .

1)26 C17 - IAF already operates 11 C17,and if Boeing ever restarts its production line then buy 15 more and completely retire and phase out Il76MD. It is the only aircraft that can carry MBT easily and is very good aircraft.

2)40 A400M - It is the perfect aircraft that can carry APC,Light Tank and many more. It is just perfect for IAF in my opinion.

3)104 C130J30- buy 80 C130J-30 as MTA and dedicate 24 C130J-30 for special ops only. It is perfect aircraft. It can easily land in DBO and we already use them, I think TATA is also opening MRO for them. (The reason I didn't choose C390 is because why complicate logistics and we already opearte C130J-30 and have landed it in DBO whereas I don't think C390 can land there, moreover having A400M negates the use of C390).

4)120 C295 - all variants (MW,or any future variant IAF wants), we already have ordered 56 of them and order 64 more and completely retire and phase out Avro and An32.

5)80 Do228- we already are the largest user of Do-228 and I think IAF uses 50+ of them, buy more and modernise the rest.

Note that I have not included other special transport(fixed-wing) aircrafts for VIP or other transport ,this is purely for IAF military uses.

What do u guys think? Rate this out of 10. Also this is my ideal fleet.

Where is Indian equivalent of USA GMD(GBI,NGI) and China HQ-10??

Like i was wondering after the recent test of AD-1 and AD-2, if we have any equivalent of USA GMD(Ground-Based Midcourse Defense) which utilizes GBI(Ground-Based Interceptor with Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle) and NGI(Next Generation Interceptor)? Also me personally i think Golden Dome is p

Like we have equivalent of THAAD/SM-3(Block IIA/IB) in the form of our BMD program(PDV,AAD,AD-1,AD-2) and Kusha(under development) which is equivalent of MIM-104 Patriot(PAC-3 MSE)/SM-6.

After that we are pretty much self reliant on every air defense systems equivalent of USA like Akash series(Mk1,Prime,1S,NG),QRSAM,VL-SRSAM,etc. And many more except lets say Iron Dome equivalent or point defense systems like Tunguska or Strela-10.

And similarly with HQ-10, where is our point defense system for ships?(because CIWS is not enough). We need our HQ-10,SeaRAM(MK15 Mod 31) or RIM-116 RAM(Block 2,2A,or 2B) equivalent.

Indian Army to place proposal before Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) for the procurement of K-30 Biho SPAD-GMS from South Korea and Verba MANPADS from Russia.

Can't we build these type of systems in house? Do we really need to import it?. Similarly with pantsir, do we really need to import it? Can't we just develop it indigenously?
