India is the largest importer of Asbestos and despite its mining being banned here, we've been using it for decades now. Most of the developed countries have already banned it.

There are a lot of dangerously active sites where asbestos shards can be found casually especially around cement and housing industrial manufacturing areas and some hotspots in MP and Jharkhand, an unfortunate good chunk of tribal and local population involved in it are slowly dying / have already died because of this.

The real problem may not actually be the consumption of asbestos but how is it handled and the work safety ethics poorly neglected wrt to it and various other mineral extractions. We really need to do something about it. Your own or your neighbors' houses may still be using a lot of stuff made of asbestos like roofs and sheds whose shards are slowly chipping away in the air during heavy winds and storms.
