ELI5: How does macOS does this thing where it selects text inside an image file?

I find it quite amusing considering it has to know what text looks like, recognize the letters, spaces and symbols to then select it, so how?

Proud owner of OCLP'd iMac 17,1 (Late 2015) on Sequoia.

So after being able of somehow doing the operation WITHOUT an USB drive (Which I call the partition method, which is creating a partition and flashing the createinstallmedia file of the installer inside it through the terminal) and doing all the post-setup successfully, I am now enjoying Sequoia on this almost pristine condition 5K 27' iMac.

You can see in the photo I am using almost all the features I couldn't use in Monterey (Latest OS supported officially) like widgets, Infuse (which isn't compatible with Monterey), stage manager, etc.

Thanks to all the OCLP staff for making this tool possible for all these 2nd hand Mac users!

Is Soulseek down?

I don't know if this is the place to ask this but since yesterday I've been trying to use the program (Both the original program and Nicotine+) and in both of them I am unable to do anything like searching or downloading, I tried switching server ports and listening ports and nothing. I've investigated and some websites say that it's down but I'm not very sure, so that's why I'm asking this.

Trying to be a solo dev, only skill is Graphic/UI Design... in frickin' CANVA.

I almost broke the feedback post rule on the guidelines, but just realized today it's supposed to be "Feedback Friday", so nevermind LOL.

So, maybe some of you read my previous post about how the hell do I begin as a solo dev for a passion project, this is some form of continuation of that post:

So, I've been working on the project and all the concepts, the name of the project is between._Corpora, it's a RPG inspired by Deltarune/Undertale with the bullet hell elements, it centers around a group of four teenagers (circa 16-17 years olds) having to go to high school while discovering alternative worlds in a span of 5 business (one world per day), basically Deltarune.

This week I began working a little bit with the project, I created a gamemaker project being purely bare-bones mechanics like walking, hitboxes, running, animations and just that FOR NOW (although, well, Claude wrote almost all the code LMAO), but what I was mainly doing was designing a presentation featuring all the UI concepts and design, as I stated in one of my comments in my previous post, I have a interest in UI, mainly in Software/OS ones, as I was always a tech guy, so the UI designs are very inspired by OS Windows and interfaces (mainly the macOS UI, but that's because I love Mac and I'm an Apple boy myself).

So yeah, that's all for today, right now I was working on that presentation with the technical details, like colors used, effects, and basically a breakdown of all the UI elements, after that I'm planning about designing some gameplay-related things, like battle UI, inventory, menus and all that.

As I said in my previous post, if anyone is interested in the project, you can DM here or at my Discord (@uhhh_enzo2010) so I can share you all my ideas and documentation about the project I have.

AS SAID BEFORE, THE GAME WILL TALK ABOUT HEAVY TOPICS, THIS IS YOUR TRIGGER WARNING.

guys would a 2016 MacBook Air support OCLP macOS 27????

(this is obviously a joke btw)

But I have a better question, even if it's kinda pointless because macOS 27 will be 100% for Apple Silicon, is it still planned to maybe someday make it compatible using OCLP? Like, not for Intel Macs of course, but like, for example, in the future when M1 or M2 Macs stop receiving updates, maybe there they could use OCLP to install macOS 27 or above in their machines.

I can already see the future clickbait videos titled something like:

"IS THIS THE END FOR OPENCORE LEGACYPATCHER!!??"

LOL

FUCK YOU MEAN THEY WERE NAZIS.

Like, I think you guys will know me from my previous post of me being in a SDA school, and like, yeah I fricking hate them but that's because they are dumb and I'm agnostic so anyway I hate religion in general.

But now I just read about the SDA church literally working with the nazis in WW2 to keep their church alive and well even if that meant fucking EXECUTING PEOPLE and exposing people against the Reich to get political invulnerability, like, WHAT THE FUCK???

A little rant about a software for Magic Mouse gestures support on Windows Bootcamp

So, on my Mac, I've been using both macOS Monterey and Windows 10 with Bootcamp, and although all the main functionalities on the mouse work well (Left and Rick Click/Vertical and Horizontal Click) the gestures on the Magic Mouse, mainly the back gesture don't work on Windows, and searching if I needed a driver or something for the gestures to work, I find that the only way to the gesture to work is by PAYING??

So, there's this software called Magic Utilities that is the only app I could find that makes the Magic Mouse gestures functional, but guess what, is paid. Yeah, for an important part of the system I literally paid for to use, I need to pay AGAIN just so I can actually use it, like, what the hell, that's like, extremely frustrating.

On other forums asking for a cracked version of Magic Utilities (Yeah, I'm searching a cracked version of this thing, because I don't have money, and even if I had, I would never pay someone for such simple and important feature), and there were people saying things like: "Oh, but the program is from an independent dev!", "You need to pay him to support him!", and not only I find extremely stupid to always justify sketchy paywalls for programs with "Oh but it's from an indie dev!" because that doesn't justify covering such an important feature behind a paywall, but also that the software is fricking SUBSCRIPTION-BASED, that makes it 100x worse now that you are literally just RENTING the app to use it.

So yeah, I only wanted to post about this because this program genuinely pissed me off a bit, so, I'll keep searching for an free alternative or a cracked version of Magic Utilities, have a nice day.

My experience going to Paraguay's most prestigious SDA school.

First of all, it's my first time writing a post here, so I don't know if this counts as an ex-SDA experience because long time ago I became agnostic and my problems with SDA are more with the organization behind (or "La Unión Adventista Sudamericana (Adventist South American Union) " as they call themselves) and with christianity in general, but neither way I think it would be fun to share my experience with them.

So, backstory, I'm a 16 year old student in Paraguay currently studying in the CADA (Colegio Adventista de Asunción), which means "Adventist School of Asunción", Asunción being the capital city of Paraguay and this is my 3rd year in here, I've been here since 8th grade and now I'm on 10th grade BTI (Information Technology Baccalaureate), and I'll be direct, this place IT'S HELL.

Not only are their christian lessons complete BS, this also referring to christian lessons in generar in my agnostic point of view, but somehow lessons coming from SDA preachers or Holy History teacher are even more stupid than catholic or evangelic lesson, and that's a huge achievements.

List of the funniest SDA takes I heard:

"Oh you are worth nothing, self-esteem doesn't exist because only God can give you value".

"You can't do anything by yourself, anything is only possible if you do it for God".

"I only teach you guys the truth because I'm nice, you will never heard this in other schools".

And my top 3:

"In the second coming, God will give us perfect bodies and cure all our illnesses" (The whole autistic spectrum and all sexual orientations included for some reason).

"Values were invented by humanistic sinful people to mock and nullify God's teaching" (Because for them "Values" and "Principles/Virtues" are completely different concepts because why not).

And, my favorite and greatest take of all time:

"Homosexuality was invented by demons disguised as people to mess with statistics and demographic populations to decrease populations and mess with God" (I'M BEING SERIOUS, OUR TEACHER TOLD US THAT A TIME AGO).

But, okay, anyways I always disagreed with Christianism in general due to (In my beliefs) religion being the oldest and most effective mind washing and mind control tool used by authorities to repress us and keep us submissive and controllable. But even with that out of the list, there's still a crap ton of problems with this Universe-forsaken (Yeah, I made up that term) of a school.

First of all, students here are genuinely, with the three institutions I've been, are easily the meanest and biggest pieces of trash I've ever have the misfortune to be with, this institution is filled with douchebag and empty-minded bullies; freaky and stinky perverts; genuine PDFs; whores (Sorry to use that word but it's the only I could describe most girls in the school) and guys that are low-key egotistical lunatics that should and will be locked up in an asylum.

And the administration is not spared neither, they are absolutely INCOMPETENT, the only thing they only care about is money and how the outside world looks at them. In their socials the always post things like: "Look how nice and beneficial the adventist education is for your children, where they will get a top-tier education based on God's principles 🥰🙌". Yeah, if constant harassing and zero tolerance towards any other belief that isn't their fucking cult-like indoctrination bullshit. So yeah, you can be sure that any problems you have inside their system can and will absolutely be ignored if there's no money or damage to their image involved.

So yeah, that's all, I just wanted to vent a little it after everything I went through in this trashy school, the first thing I will do immediately after finishing high school will be exposing the hell out of this rotten organization and let everyone know how fucking terrible they are, good night.

Hot Take: The Apple Magic Mouse is kinda overhated.

So, I've bought an used iMac and been using it for the last 3 weeks, and after hearing all the backlash toward the Magic Mouse, I was expecting to have the same problems as everyone, but, on daily use, the Magic Mouse is very far from a bad mouse.

- The ergonomics

Using the mouse feels very natural to me and doesn't feel hard to use, maybe it's because I like using a mouse only with my fingertips on the mouse while my wrist rests on the desk, so, at least for me I didn't feel any ergonomic issues.

- The touch gestures

This was by far my favorite aspect of the mouse, The scrolling feels buttery smooth both vertical and horizontally, and the back and desktop switch gestures are very useful, sometimes I even unconsciously swipe horizontally on other mice to go back when using the computers in my school. The only caveat would be that sometimes the scroll gesture can be a bit too sensitive, making that sometimes even the slightest swipe will be detected as a scroll, sometimes making even clicking a bit difficult.

- The charging port position

This was by far the most nothing-burger issue I found, yeah, you can't use the mouse when it charges, and what? you charge it for like 10 minutes and you can use it for another 2 months, the port issue can't be an issue if the charging speed is notoriously fast and the battery duration is surprisingly long.

So, concluding, at least for me, the Magic Mouse is a very good mouse in general, and for daily tasks it serves its purpose very efficiently.

Buying an used 2015 27' iMac was a poor choice.

So recently I bought this used 2015 27' iMac (17,1) for a cheap price, and for like a week I thought it was the best deal of all time, after coming from a PC from literally 2009, the upgrade was obviously gigantic, but after a bit more than 2 weeks after buying it I started realizing why it was cheap in the first place.

First of all, the iMac seems very tampered, with not only additional RAM being introduced by the original owner, but also having a 1TB HDD installed to the Mac, and by that I mean being connected to the motherboard and being hold by DUCK TAPE in the inside wall of the machine.

Not only that but I realized since like the 3rd day of using it that the display is very worn out. Having considerable ghosting and a purple tint around the edges of the screen.

All that would be acceptable until yesterday I sat down and realized... THE SCREEN IS LITERALLY COMING OFF, I could clearly saw how one corner of the screen was literally detached from the main machine and every time I stick it back in, after like 10 minutes it would detach again.

And this morning it happened, somehow, when I was in school, THE SCREEN LITERALLY FELL OFF, luckily it didn't broke and we called the original owner to fix it, and by that I mean that he literally TAPED IT to the machine while saying "Oh, that's weird because the adhesives are 'Perfectly fine'" and said that the purple tint and the ghosting was because "Oh you need to disable transparency for that", like, what??? And worse of all, he convinced my dad that the Mac would be perfectly fine for another 5 years because "Oh you can upgrade the RAM and the storage!!!", I prefer not being able to upgrade my specs to have DDR3 RAM and duck taped HDDs on my Mac.

If I'm lucky, I would be able to change my dad's mind and hopefully in a few months get an iMac that's actually worth it like a 2017, 2019 or 2020 iMac.

Moral of the story: If you saw a price too good to be true, maybe it's because it is and there's a hidden price you'll need to pay in the future.

Can't boot Sequoia installer

Sorry for posting again, but after solving the boot picker and EFI Boot problem from previous post, after using a wired keyboard and supposedly already being on the EFI OpenCore boot picker, even after solving all that I still have the problem that when booting on "Install macOS Sequoia" the screen will pop up with the image below and be soft locked, is there a way to solve this?

OCLP messing up, help!

So, I've been trying to install macOS Sequoia on an iMac 17,1 and omg it's so painful, now when I just been able to put the installer into my partition, now the EFI doesn't want to appear in the Boot Picker, only my main drive and my BootCamp partition appears (See image below), and one guy here told to try resetting the NVRAM with a key combination on startup, and after that now for some fricking I can't even access to the boot picker anymore, like wtf, please can someone explain how the flip deal with this bs.

macOS Sequoia Partition with Monterey and Boot Camp partition on iMac 17,1 (27' 2015L), how safe it is on a 1TB HDD?

So im planning on transitioning from Monterey to Sequoia, but now, my fear would be with all the partitions and stuff, I have like 547GB free for Partition due to also having a Boot Camp Partition, does someone share this config to know how risky would be to tamper with partitions and the HDD on this model?

Staying on macOS Monterey or updating on 2015L 27 Inch iMac?

So recently I got this used Late 2015 27 Inch iMac and its on Monterey, while investigating I saw that some people say that Monterey its the best version for late Intel Macs due to features and stability, so I don't know if I should use OCLP to update to anything between macOS 13 and 15 (because Tahoe sucks) or just play it safe and stay on Monterey, what do y'all think?

The MBP has 32GB RAM and 512ĢB storage while the iMac has its base specs (8GB/256GB), they have a similar price with the MacBook being, I think, 100$ or 150$ more expensive, which one do I choose?
