[WTB] Passive bookshelf speakers - without amp.

Just as the title says - looking for a good pair of used bookshelf speakers, under 10k. I already have a class D amp. I am looking to replace my L R satellites. Would prefer if the bookshelves have separate tweeter and woofer. Sealed / ported : sealed preferred.

India - Hyderabad Audiophiles - where's your go to place for DIY audio?

If you wanted to build a custom subwoofer box, or build your own bookshelf speakers with amps, etc., what's your recommendation?

Gujarati galli is mixed, tbh. They have some components, but not audiophile grade. They are more geared towards DJ sets with loud speakers.

Delhi and Chennai seem to have very good places (Salcon Electronics, DIYAudiocart, etc). I'm sure Hyd has too.

Linux - Object based audio (atmos) - Omniphony - help

Hi,

I am running a HTPC with Kubuntu 24.04, 11th gen Intel i5, Iris Xe and 16 gigs of RAM. Not great specs, but works flawlessly for my purposes.
I run heavy remuxes via mpv, tone-map HDR content for my BenQ W1070 (I can set custom brightness targets, colour targets, etc).

My big problem has been with object based audio formats (Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, etc). I have a custom 5.1.2 setup : I have a Vantec 7.1 USB DAC, and I wired my height channels to the 'rear' channel of the Vantec. I use qpwgraph when required to do custom patchbay.

There is a fantastic tool called 'Cavern', and the 'cavernize' tool allows me to create a wav / FLAC file from a source atmos file *preserving* the object data in a sense. Essentially, it creates raw PCM channels with all the phasing and panning 'baked' into the wav file.

Now, there's a newer more exciting project - Omniphony (https://github.com/mgth/Omniphony) which does the object based audio in real-time using VBAP.

This is fantastic news for anyone trying to get Atmos effects on their Linux PCs. Omniphony is still in alpha stage and there are bound to be issues.

I am unable to get any sound from their demo scripts. Has anyone else had better luck?

Omniphony

If you haven't already heard of Omniphony - then please do check it out:
https://github.com/mgth/Omniphony
https://omniphony.mgth.fr/
It is a "Real-time spatial / object-based audio rendering engine (VBAP + binaural) for multichannel and 3D audio — speakers or headphones." - as per the developer.

I think this is fantastic option for those of us who want to have Dolby Atmos on a Linux PC.

Currently, the only way I am able to get object audio (atmos) is via offline processing using another fantastic tool called 'Cavernize'. Omniphony aims to be realtime - they even have an mpv fork (mpv-omniphony) for doing this on Linux / other platforms.

I am facing some issues while trying this out (it is, of course, in alpha state and some issues are expected). The demo scripts, for example, produce no sound output on my Kubuntu 24.04 OS.

If there's anyone else who's using this and had success, I would like to know what worked for you and how.
