Apparently, my pool belongs to the whole neighborhood.

I bought my house in 2009, not long after the crash, so I got a damn good deal. That left me with enough left over cash to build a couple expansions and put a pool in.

The majority of my neighbors are low income folks, as would be expected in an area where the best job you can get is at the Amazon warehouse. I love the majority of my neighbors. They're great people.

But we recently had a family move in 3 houses down from us, and they are straight up trash. They have 3 broken down cars in their front yard that the dad is "working on". They blast music on their outdoor speakers at midnight. They leave trash (beer cans, pizza boxes, cigar wrappers) in the woods behind my house, just past my property line.

I got woken up this morning by a notification that there was movement in my back yard. I checked my camera, and there were six kids that I did not recognize, swimming in my pool. Playing games, dunking on my basketball hoop (yes, they damaged it).

I called the police non-emergency number. The cops showed up and took the kids home. They were too young to charge.

About an hour later, I had loud knocks on my door. It was the mom who just moved in. She told me that I shouldn't have a pool if I didn't want everyone who sees it to jump in. She told me that "not everyone can afford a pool", so I need to share.

Like, if I knew her and her kids, if we were friends, I would probably be ok with them swimming. But some random kid swimming in my pool is a legal liability for me.

When people refer to their child as "baby" to other adults.

Examples:

"We're getting our house ready for baby."

"Oh, baby is cranky today!"

"That's not good for baby."

It's just not proper grammar.

"We're getting our house ready for the baby."

"Oh, our baby is cranky today!"

"That's not good for babies."

Or, Hell, just use the child's actual name.

To be clear, this does not apply if you are talking directly to the child. "Aww, baby, what's wrong?" doesn't bother me. But if you tell me "Baby started to crawl today!" I will instantly judge you.

AITAH for telling my SiL that her son is not allowed back into my house until she teaches him to not be a shithead?

To be clear, I did not say this in front of the child.

I took this past weekend off work, to host my MiL's birthday party (MiL lives with us). I love my inlaws, they are generally great people. But my SiL has taken the "gentle parenting" approach, which, to her, means that she will never discipline her child. This has resulted in that little boy (11m) acting like a fucking asshole, if I'm being honest.

His idea of "fun" is sneaking up behind people and screaming as loud as he can into their ear. I still can't hear properly out of my right ear after the most recent incident. I might have permanent damage. He walked away laughing.

Another thing he did was to dump a ridiculous amount of salt into the mashed potatoes we were making while no one was looking, rendering them inedible. He thought that was fucking hilarious.

He also took his pocket knife and carved his name into the TV in our game room. $900 TV, completely ruined. He laughed his ass off when we found out. I can replace it, a new one is already on the way, but it's the principle. Don't destroy other people's stuff.

TW: Animal abuse.

>!He chased my dog around, and when he caught her, he yanked on her tail, then ran away laughing. Luckily, the vet said no permanent damage was done. I feel like she's raising a serial killer. Who enjoys hurting an animal?!?!<

</TW>

My MiL is the sweetest, kindest, and generally best person I have ever met. So I kept my calm, and let them stay for the party. I didn't want to ruin her birthday. I love that woman.

After all was said and done, and everyone went home, I sent a private message to my SiL. I let her know that while I don't agree with her parenting style, she is free to raise her own kid as she sees fit, but I will not allow him in my house ever again. Unless she starts teaching him how to behave in human society.

She is calling me all sorts of names, and telling me that I'm "causing drama in the family over nothing". Mind you, I didn't say this in the family group chat, I said it in a DM. I don't understand how that can be considered "drama".

I just cannot deal with that feral child anymore.

AITAH?

I know he's just a kid, but I've raised 13 kids, and none of them act like that.

[Dodecadragons] The "cycle colour on reset" function seems to be broken.

I'm on my second playthrough. The checkbox worked just fine last time. But now, it just doesn't cycle. If I set it to a color, the box just goes blank on reset instead of moving on.
