You'll be shirtless on the beach in no time 🔥 (1.5 years post op)

My first shirtless beach trip! It felt annoying my first summer (6 months post op) that I couldn't show my scars but I'm glad I didn't. My time has finally come and it feels AMAZING!! And I get this for the rest of my life 😌 mind blowing. So grateful.

SLPA associates after ECE associates? Would this give an 'edge'

Hey all!

Thank you for reading!

I (25) am currently a little under halfway through my Early Childhood Education associates online with Purdue Global. I work as an RBT with early learners on the Autism Spectrum (at an incredibly comprehensive 'modern' care clinic). I myself have Autism and ADHD, and being around neurodivergence 24/7 (was previous a bartender) has changed my life immeasurably for the better. I love them kids, and it's teaching me new ways to love and treat myself.

I want everything I do in the future to come from a solid basis of understanding early childhood development. My belief is that the generations we will be serving for... a long time to come, even the older kids, will be serverly lacking proper early childhood development. I see it akin to trauma informed care, considering the need for this growth doesn't go away if you don't get it, its just delayed.

So this being said... I really want to complete my ECE associates!

I'm moving back to my hometown for more stability (with my Mom oop), and the major university there offers an Online SLPa associates program. They do have a bachelors in Communication sciences and disorders, but this would require me to be in person, which is ~ an hour drive from where I would be living.

My Mom who is helping me with college, and is (future) helping me with living expenses (I am so furtunate) says you don't get ahead collecting associate degrees.

Some Pro's for ECE assoc. + SLPa assoc.

- I feel like it will give me an edge in a difficult job market? Not just once I'm an SLPa but also to get a good job while working for my degree.

- If I work as an RBT for the school districts up there, they offer tuition reimbursement + mentorship for continued education, and my understanding is that it would apply to SLP stuff even if I'm 'currently' in an ABA role

- I could work while I go to school online

- I could pursue a different bachelors and still continue on to an SLP masters if thats what I want (I have lots of things I want to learn + want the options of different jumping off points! Linguistics, writing, recreation administration, special education, social work, teaching)

Pro's for Bachelors

- My mom would support me being a full time student if I had to commute 2 hrs to classes 🙃

- they might be able to let me take the SLPa specific classes hybrid if the system is already in place

- I wouldn't need more qualifiers to go on to a masters if I choose

- It's what my Mom would prefer and she is offering financial help

Secret 3rd option

She actually wants me to drop my ECE associates entirely and switch what I can to SLPa associates rn and complete that. I would get the benefits of being able to choose my bachelors, but I wouldn't have the ECE knowledge that I really feel like will be impactful for the rest of my working career (and personal parenting dreams).

And I cannot start this SLPa program until I move up there in a year, because the new university is region specific. I would be about finishing up my current courses anyway.

Conclusion

I know ECE by itself doesn't tend to be a lucrative degree, but am I insane to think that it helps with a killer resume to get me closer to achieving my dreams? Is this worth being in school for longer?

Do any of yall have multiple degrees + how do you think that helps or hurts your current role in SLPa

I appreciate you all!

Please help me find the best VHS(/dvd) player for my wonderful techy GF's birthday

Hello everyone!! My partner and I (25) are physical media collectors. We have absolutely followed a bit of a... cart before the horse approach 😂

She LOVES VHS tapes and has visions of a future media relec type theatre room. We have been grabbing VHS and DVDs from thrifts and flea markets, but we do not have a way to watch them (yet!)

For her birthday coming up July 19th, I would like to get her a VHS player (I would love for it to play both VHS and DVD, but I'll prioritize the VHS). My budget is maybe 150 for this item? Flexible

She is an awe inspiring tech wizard. I know NOTHING. I will be getting her a DVD burner (and binder) as well as the player, but that will be easier for me to figure out because they're actively being made with reviews.

I would really appreciate advice on what to be looking for?? It looks like second hand is the best option, where should I be looking... Ebay? What specs are important? Whats brands are reliable? I would like this to be something that can last a long time with care (she can repair as we go I'm sure). I would like this to plug into a standard TV, that'll be like... an HDMI cord attachment?

My old tech fan friends, what would YOU want to recieve?

I really want her to be able to watch her original release starwars trilogy VHS tapes we've had for over a year. Love that woman.

Thank you!

19 cassettes bought for no more than 30$

I grew up strictly religious, and am living a very different life now! I am discovering my love of MUSIC and media I did not have access to growing up. Its an amazing thing being transported back to the emotions of decades past. I'm understanding the 'OH, Elvis 😍's and the 'which one of them is this again?'s about the Beatles.

My Abbey Road Beatles cassette was one of my first. I found it in a bin of 40 uncased tapes for 50 cents. This was the top album the month my dad was born!

I spent less than 1$ on 17 of these. My Electric Light Orchestra was 6$ at a flea market, but bought for 4$. I shelled out 6$ for Micheal Jackson BAD at a cosign, after having already aquired Thriller for 60 cents at a thrift.

I love my collection, I keep them in a school desk from 1929 :)

Help! I've started making button marionettes and I can't stop!

I hosted a button marionette craft party today and it was a resounding success! Pictures 1 and 2 were made today, picture 3 was my first previous attempt. I can feel in my bones that more are coming 😂

1.5 years post op + Pre Op - [NB] No T, No Nip, No Scar care. Dr. Katherine Rose Bryn Mawr PA

Hey All, wanted to share my results.

We had to go further under my armpit to avoid dog ear as my Pre-Op chest was wide set. Didn't do scar care due to sensory issues with the numbness, if I had pushed through I likely would've had the numbness fade faster than it did (only recently gone) so I wouldn't recommend this course of action if you can help it.

I have previously posted a scar fading timeline collage, and a big thread on my experience with Dr. Rose (LOVED HER + THE TEAM). Feel free to post questions here or there and I will respond, but do read it if you're curious as its very in depth.

Anyway, I have spent a year and a half looking exactly how I always knew I would and it has been life changing. This will be my first shirtless summer, so excited!!

New comrades in my communist fish tank - name the SHRIMPS!

Hey friends! I love this sub, and have a fun one for you (at least, its very fun for me!)

TLDR at the bottom

I've been building a fish tank for the last half year. It started with decor, a sunken roman ruins. The colluseum was the foundation, creating a stage for our Gladiators! 3 Honey gourami, the show fish that communicate with their little feelers. We figured it would be a fun take to name them after philisophers, as a take on free thought being the means of fighting in this capitalist society. The dominant male, Aurelius (the golden one, philosopher king of rome) is our 'Bergoise Class', with Karl (F) and Lemon (F) his opposition.

Then we added our schooler fish, rummynose tetra. They are the 'Spectatores', the observers in a constant state of unrest following the whims of the system.

Then our bottom feeders, corydoras catfish. They are our working class, bottom of the hierarchy, the 'Proletariat'. One of them has a weak fin, thats Frida (Kahlo).

Now this is what we had planned, and then I got... impulsive! I got SHRIMPS!! LITTLE BLUE SCRIMPY GUYS! and I really think they wont just be an expensive meal for the other fishies.

This is where YOU come in, I'd LOVE to find a title for them that fits with the rest of the metaphor. Hit me.

TLDR:

Sunken roman ruins (there will be a volcano)

Honey Gourami show fish gladiators - Aurelius (M) Karl (F) Lemon (F)

Rummynose Tetra schooler fish - the Spectatores

Corydoras Catfish, bottom feeders - The Proletariat

Blue shrimps - !!! Who knows!!!

Feeding Schedule - 15 fish

Hello Everyone! I have officially completed my 20 gal long tank set up!

~ 4 month period, I got the tank -> cycled -> grew plants -> Snail hitchhikers -> 2 Honey gourami -> 7 Rummy nose Tetra -> 1 more female Honey -> 5 peppered Cory Cats = 15 fish

My filter is Aqua-55 made for 20 - 55 gallon tanks

I'm wondering what my schedule of feeding should be + how much! I will add a picture in the comments of the brands of food I have. I read you should feed honeys what they can eat in about 2 minutes. What I've been doing the past few days with the final addition of the cory cats has been

1 crumpled small pinch of fish flakes, 1 crumpled dried baby shrimp, 2 sinking pellets. All twice daily.

Does this sound good? Should I have a fast day? They also are very hopfully eating snail eggs within the tank 😂

Thank you!

(Also! I thought this video was cute with the honeys all together, but wanted to add that we got the second Honey because Karl, the little one, was being chased a little much. With the addition of Lemon, chasing has very much dispersed. Aurelius is just coming into his maturing colors but overall very peaceful tank!! Chasing lasts less than 3 seconds and Lemon usually touches back instead of running 😂)
