Different rates, same charger?

Different rates, same charger?

Hi all,
Probably been asked before but can I just clarify something…
If I drive to Sainsburys (for example) and use their charger (80kw) do I get a different rate when paying via contactless with my Amex compared to say using the Electroverse app?

I’m a new EV owner, and my first public charge I just parked, plugged it in, and it charged for 30 minutes.

Now I’m seeing “this app is cheaper here…” and so on, just want some clarity please, and if we’re talking pennies or big savings for the odd fast charge on long journeys? 😊
I also assume motorway services are extortion just like they are for regular fuel…

Picture of charging screen can be found here if it’s helpful.

UK Charger v 3-pin Granny Charger

Hi all,

Recently purchased a Tesla Model 3, I can charge it at work so had no need for a home charger. I planned on buying the 3-pin plug to trickle it from 80% to 100% overnight if I was on a long trip though.

Today I had an electrician out to see if a home charger would be a simple install out of curiosity, and he said I'd need a new consumer unit, and a charger with PEN Protection, so I'm expecting a quote of £1,500+... and he said to avoid Granny Charging without a dedicated circuit & PEN Protection again.

I'm sure in an ideal world that would be great, but I would barely do any home charging with a 3-pin & I see so many people just plugging their EVs in to old random sockets to charge.

My house was rewired 5 years ago so I know it's all modern & good wires, and I was hoping to use one of these dedicated sockets by extending my dining room wiring through the wall...

Any thoughts on this or is this a disaster waiting to happen? If I'd need a new consumer unit regardless then I'd almost certainly get a cheap dedicated 7kw charger but I'd like to avoid that if possible, until we get a second EV.

Just noticed this part by the windscreen wiper has popped out, and won’t push back in… is it easy to replace or another solution?

Forget Range Anxiety, I’ve Got Ground Clearance Anxiety!

Hi all,
New Model 3 owner here (2022 Registered) and I know people mention range anxiety for EV’s but when I was researching the car I did hear a lot of horror stories about scraping the bottom on ramps & so on…

I absolutely love the car, but it is giving my anxiety about where I drive it.

For example today we’ve got a drive which will result in parking in a field for an event, so I’m not taking the Tesla just in case. I find myself worrying about car parks with ramps, speed bumps & so on!

Considering how many M3’s I see on the roads, I’m sure I’m overthinking this… is it just something you get used to or is it a real concern? 🤔

Home Charger v Commando Charger v Granny Charging

Hi all,
Picked up my Model 3 yesterday, now planning the home charger I want but I'm torn between the following. Despite thinking a fancy home charge setup would be nice, the Granny Charger always wins. Thoughts on the below, or alternatives please. (I don't do many miles, and can charge at work if needed on a faster charger)

Dedicated EV charger - 7kw - Expensive setup, and the Tesla does the 'smart work' instead of needing a fancy charger I believe. Could be handy if we got another EV which was 'dumb'

Commando Charger - 7kw - Somewhat 'industrial' but easier & cheaper to install than above - Not common so would need 3-pin adaptor too - Apparently safer than 3-pin plug.

Outdoor socket & Granny Charge - 2kw - Can plug in anywhere such as staying with friends or AirBnB, charges overnight & maintains 80% charge - Cheapest to install & manage?

I posted about my favourite cheese loaf recipe a few days ago, and working out the differences between the weights & measurements for a Bread Dad loaf & my machine.
Attempting another today, and always find myself adding extra flour during kneading.
Think I’ve got it pretty good this time though, maybe slightly tacky, thoughts please?

So I'm thinking of going for a 2020-ish Model 3, and I like the idea of the Performance model. My biggest concern is hearing about issues with ground clearance or potholes cracking the alloys. Is this a genuine reason to worry, or is this really overhyped?
The Model 3 Stealth Performance could be a great compromise, but they are rare. And the Long Range isn't a bad compromise if it has the acceleration boost software I guess...

Given that I see so many crazy low cars on the roads, I'm assuming I'm probably worrying about nothing. But I also don't want to worry about driving in to a car park, or the next pothole smashing my £1000 alloy wheel.

I live in Portsmouth UK & our roads aren't amazing. Plus I do drive in to the odd field when parking at events. Not that I go off-roading, obviously.

I'm coming from a Ford Ranger, where naturally I don't worry about clearance, but I don't want to worry every time I drive the Model 3 that I'm going to beach it / scrape it / smash an alloy.

I’ve got a Ford Ranger which I love, but it’s got some reliability issues to say the least & these are becoming tedious as I wouldn’t necessarily trust it on a long journey now.

I often use the back to transport long but clean things which could fit in the boot of either the Model 3 or the Model S. The only thing I would no longer be able to carry is the odd load of logs, and I could hire a van if needed as it’s very rare.

I can get around £15k for my Ranger, so I’d like to buy a Tesla for around the same kind of price, maybe adding a couple of thousand.

Questions:

The interior of the Model 3 can look quite plain, and I wonder if the lack of instrument cluster is inconvenient or annoying in any way?

Are there big reliability issues with either the Model 3 or Model S? I’m told mileage isn’t too much of an issue as long as battery health is all good?

I’d love the closest to FSD I can get, in the hope that it gets the green light in the UK soon. I read somewhere that EAP isn’t too far behind, and is a good compromise?

Range isn’t a huge issue for me, I don’t do many miles & can charge on my drive & at work if needed.

Would there be much of a difference for the models such as the 75D or the 100D in the Model S?

Thanks!

I made this once before & although it is lovely, it does require a fair amount of “translating” from the American measurements to British measurements.

He measures his as a 2lb loaf for example, my machine is in grams & M, L or XL or he uses cups, not grams & so on.

Because of this I use Google Gemini to create a recipe suited to my machine.

The first one dipped a bit, but this one is much better. Watching the kneading cycle & adding flour bit by bit made a huge difference too.

Would you say to try a little bit less yeast next time, or to maybe add a tiny bit more salt?
