ELI5 why do some brands include the ® and ™ symbols on their products, while others do not?

As an example, I can point to Red Bull, which has a small ™ symbol next to the red letters; NonStop Energy, which has a ® symbol; and Monster Energy, which doesn’t have such symbols in the product name. Why do some brands put this right on the front label, while others only include it in the product description on the back?

In the strangest way, I made new friends

Everyone knows the stereotype that guys make friends in weird situations, right? I was able to prove it for the second time (I posted another story about a different person a couple of months ago)
To give you some context, I’m on a Discord server dedicated to a certain obscure game. In my part of the world, this game is even less popular than in other countries, so I was chatting there in English. Suddenly, someone with another Russian username noticed my Russian nickname. He messaged me, “Are you from Russia?” to which I replied, “No, from *Another Country*”. He was completely shocked, since he was from there too. I asked which city he was from, and he said the same one as me. That blew my mind, and we switched to private messages. While we were chatting, a third person from our same city showed up in the chat!! And the game’s fanbase is mostly made up of players from the States. We got together as a group and decided to go for a walk on our very first day. In literally 20 minutes, I got ready and headed to the station near the beach. A lot happened there: from a fight between us and some drunks to getting five liters of kvass for free. Then we headed to a bar, where a bartender I knew poured us some kombucha for free. And so, even though I’d planned to just sit around and do nothing all day, I found friends and here I am, sitting in a bar during a thunderstorm, drinking kombucha. I love this life, what a small chance there was for all this to happen! Best day of year.

TIFU by getting an electric shock because I was too lazy

My room isn't square, it's shaped like an elongated rectangle. And to save space, my bed is pushed up against the wall, and the nightstand is right next to my head when I'm lying down. The socket closest to me is right above this nightstand, and I usually stand up to reach it over the nightstand. But 10 minutes ago, I was too lazy to get up, so I decided to plug the charger into the socket by feel. I missed on the first try, so I decided to feel for the holes with my fingers. I felt around, missed again, but out of laziness and sleepiness, I decided to rely on touch and placed my fingers right on the charger’s plug. Then I brought my hand toward the outlet. The shock wasn’t very strong, but it was unexpected (I know, I’m stupid), and it made me jump right back to a standing position. I drank some water, looked out the window thinking what a dummy I was, sat down at my laptop, and started writing this post for you. Never be too lazy to check for potential hazards, even if the chance is small.
TL:DR: Because of my laziness and stupidity, I almost stuck my fingers in an socket and got electrocuted

EDIT: Hi everybody, thank you for your support words! I'm okay, in ER specialist said it's alright and I don't have reasons to worry. Since this moment, I'll be more carefull. Thanks again!

I think I saw a maniac today...

Lately, I've been doing various odd jobs around town. I really need 3,000 euros, and I'm trying to save up that amount any way I can. Recently, I saw a job posting for a illegal Korean bar in Koreatown in our city.

I worked yesterday, and today they told me that because of the off-the-books accounting, I'll have to quit. They were supposed to pay me at the end of the day, and that's the only reason I stayed until 11 p.m.

When we were closing up, I walked through the staff room to the locker room in another part of the building, in the basement. While I was changing into my regular clothes, I realized I’d left my charger on the counter by the entrance. I ran back there, and to avoid turning on the light in the electrical panel, I used my phone as a flashlight.

And when I picked up my charger and the money I’d left there (I was so tired I could have left without them at all), I walked through a very dark room toward the staff exit. I was told that this exit had never been locked, but I still don't understand why.

While I was walking, I ordered a taxi so I wouldn't have to wait for the bus. And since I needed Wi-Fi, I stayed there for another three minutes. Then, when I stepped outside, only the streetlights were on. Not even the windows were lit up.

And as I sat there with my headphones on, I felt someone’s gaze on me. I looked up, scanned the area, and when I saw something, my heart sank. I thought my soul would fly right out of my head from fear.

A man in torn clothes, holding some kind of metal object, was standing there looking at me. The streets were deserted, since the city’s curfew begins at midnight.

He stood there, looking at me, and didn't leave until the taxi arrived. When I heard the notification, I glanced out of the corner of my eye to see where the taxi was, trying not to lose sight of that man for too long.

The taxi was coming from the avenue, and I was coming from the alley, so I had to walk with my back to it, keeping my eyes on it the whole time. When I turned the corner and started running, I heard footsteps. Instinctively, I glanced back, and there was that guy standing right around the corner, staring at me and the taxi driver. I still had my back turned as I approached the car, got in without even checking to see if it was my taxi, and told the driver to go as fast as possible.

I explained to the taxi driver that curfew was coming up, although he probably could tell from my expression that something was wrong. As we drove away, I saw him go through the staff entrance.

I don't know who it is or why, but tomorrow I'll be keeping an eye on all the news, and if anything comes up, I'll post an update... But what scares me is that if I had been late with the taxi, or with the charging and the money, he might have attacked me right then and there...

ELI5 why do counterfeiters sell their money instead of using it themselves?

It's always seemed strange to me, after all, when you're selling, it's easier to get caught by the feds, isn't it? Is it really easier for them to take that risk than to ruin their own reputation?

EDIT: Guys, thanks for your replies, but this post is turning into a detailed guide on the subject. I appreciate everyone’s explanations, but this is turning into a full-fledged textbook. To be on the safe side, it’s probably best not to give detailed advice like “you should sell this much or that much,” but I’m grateful to all of you!

Make a videogame in 1:1 scale and give every player unlimited ability!

Let me explain. Imagine that a simulation of our world has been created, but every player has unlimited possibilities. You can go to work, or you can just get $100,000,000 from a bank. At the same time, you, like the other players, have the ability to fly planes, drive ships and supercars, live in any house, and so on. But as soon as you die or are killed - you exit the simulation and go back to living in the real world. The main idea: if people had unlimited possibilities, would they sow chaos, kill people, or blow everything up with grenade launchers, or would they use their abilities to create a peaceful, ideal society that no one would want to leave?

In a year (or maybe even this year), I’ll be moving to Spain. What should I know about the country?

I have relatives there, but they won’t talk to me because they’re upset with my mom. I want to stay there, but my mom might come home in 5 or 6 years. I have nowhere else to ask but here :(

AITA for telling my mom and sister that I won't be waiting for them at the prom?

A little background: my sister and I are both in our last year, just at different schools. She’s at a private school and I’m at a public one. My sister’s graduation is on Thursday, and mine is on Friday. Mom really wanted me to come over, and since we have open attendance right now, I wouldn’t even have to miss class time. But today I was supposed to retake my final math exam, but since my teacher said it wasn’t today, I came back empty-handed. I wasn’t upset at all, because in our country, grades don’t really affect anything when it comes to college admissions, it only matters if you want to study abroad. My mom has always seen me as a tool to achieve the successes she couldn’t achieve herself. If my sister could skip school just because she wanted to, I was obligated to go even when I was sick. It got to the point where I once fainted at school, and all my mother cared about was that I hadn’t taken the test because of it. Let’s get back to today: Mom said that if I don’t pass, I won’t go tomorrow. I told her I wouldn’t be able to take anything because the teacher isn’t available today, and besides, the grade doesn’t affect my college admissions. She said, “So you’re fuc**ng going tomorrow, and not to our graduation,” to which I replied, “Then I won’t be expecting you at my graduation on Friday.” I didn’t hear what she said; I just walked out, but now she refuses to talk to me. Did I go too far, or not?

She cheated on me and I even don't know why

We've been dating for a year now, or rather, we were dating. She was my sunshine, she pulled me out of the most difficult situation, and I was sure we were together forever. I loved her, and she loved me. We had an agreement - if we saw someone we liked, we would just tell each other and not cheat on each other. She knew how traumatized I was by being cheated on twice before in my previous relationships. Today, I went for a walk in the park far from my house, just turned off my phone, and left the house. My girlfriend's house is right next to it, and I was thinking of stopping by and buying her a gift. As soon as I left the park towards her house, I saw her come out of the yard and hug another guy, jump on him, and try to kiss him. I froze, she saw me and froze too. We stood there and looked at each other until the guy realized what was happening. Then she started crying and begging me to forgive her, so I simply unhooked the keychain she gave me, threw it at her feet, and left. I couldn't sleep that night, and she kept calling me. I just went out and bought two cans of Red Bull and burst into tears when I came back. She called me, and I wanted to pick up, but I didn't dare. She still writes to me and begs me to forgive her, but I've buried that relationship for good...

I helped the paramedics and found a new friend in a strange situation

We all know the joke that guys only find friends in the strange situations. I used my example today. My house is in a courtyard, surrounded on two sides by another house but with an arch for easy passage, on the third side by a private university and with a fourth side with construction. Because of the repairs, you can now only enter through the arch or the university, and I went through the arch. As soon as I entered the yard, one of the paramedics ran up to me and said "urgently need help, come with me," and there was another guy following him, a student from that same university. They’re having an open day, and he volunteered to help. We went up to the 3rd floor with this guy and medics (in our types of houses there is no elevator) and went into the kitchen. There was a an elderly man lying on hand-held stretchers, and one of the paramedics kept other pensioners from going out into the hall and into the kitchen. Since I come from Ukraine and have helped with such stretchers more than once, the guy from university and me quickly settled in and carried this man down on the stretchers, with the help of one of the other paramedics, until two others were allowed to leave. As I understood it, they didn’t want to take him away, which is strange since we have free medicine. Some people went down, put this sir on a medical gurney, the paramedics loaded him and started decorating while standing there. We looked at that guy again, standing there in shock, saying between us "what just happened?" When he had a heart attack and didn’t have time to wait for the police, they took the first few people and asked for help. The paramedic gave us water, and I talked to this guy. He turned out to be a good dude, we went there and found a same vibe, stood and spoke like that for 7 minutes before the ambulance left. While we were standing, my sister came up to me on her way home, asked what had happened, and Ilya (this guy’s name) and I told about this strange situation. Since his university is just next to my house, we agreed to go for a walk tomorrow. In the end, I saved the life of my neighbor’s grandfather and made a new friend. Life is unpredictable : )

I laughed so loudly that the old lady walking by got scared

Yesterday my friends and I were going for a walk. One of my favorite tricks is to do somersaults from benches and curbs. At one point, I jumped, and at that moment, one friend sneezed almost in sync with the flip. One of us joked about the "jumpboost from a sneeze". I don't know why, but at that moment I just burst out laughing, and I laughed so loudly that an elderly woman walking past got scared and almost screamed. This made me laugh even more, and I lay on the bench, laughing uncontrollably while my friends apologized for me and laughed too : D

I’m 17. I’m good at learning new languages, but I’m really bad at the sciences. My mom tells me I should become a teacher, but first of all, I’m not interested in that at all. I do some tutoring on the side, but I couldn’t do it full-time. And second, to get a teaching degree, you need to know the sciences.
I was thinking of becoming a translator, but since that field is practically dead in my country, it’s going to be difficult. What should I choose? Everyone thanks!
