ISO Harrisville Designs Shetland (8 Colors)

I'm hoping a weaver out there can help me out! I am looking for 8 specific colorways to make a test swatch. I do not want to commit to purchasing full skeins until I figure out if I need to make any adjustments to the colors. I am willing to accept yarn from a cone. This is what I am looking for, in varied amounts:

1-.5 skeins each: White, Black

-.5 skeins each: Seagreen, Azure, Marigold, Raspberry

~.25 skeins each: Grass, Violet

Thank you so much for your help!

Creating Faux Layers in Knitwear

I am trying to think of different techniques to achieve a faux layered garment. I picked up a really cool vintage top at the antique store a while ago, that I would like to try and recreate as a knit top. I hate to be that person asking for advice without making an example! I would just like to discuss this, because it is rare to see this attempted in knitwear. I really want to see more of it in written patterns. Perhaps I'll come back with an update.

The shirt has a buttoned Henley collar, with a faux crew neck (almost mock neck) inner layer. The body is a short sleeve top with layered long sleeves. An oversized fit with cinched waistband and cuffs.

I have a couple different ideas on how to work this:

Working each layer separate, and then seaming one inside the other.

Do a double knit CO below the neckline, and then work bottom up as separate pieces.

Pick up for the inner layer on the reverse side (of outer layer), to work bottom up.

My main concern is seeing a visible ridge where the inner layer is attached to the outer layer. It is almost like a decorative seam should be added to hide this. I am not opposed to working a bunch of individual flat pieces to then be seamed. I am thinking of some sort of drop shoulder construction with front and back yoke pieces.

Perhaps you have done something like this before? I plan to use fingering weight yarn.

Vendors not updating their website after festivals.

Why is it so common for vendors to neglect updating their website/stock after attending a festival?

Last year I went to Indie Untangled last minute, during the last time slot. By the time I got through all the booths once, it was time to go. During my time there, I took photos of yarn I was interested in. Weeks, even months had gone by, and the vendors did not post their stock online. Or they have a weak internet presence entirely.

What are these vendors doing with this stock? Are they simply prioritizing their festival presence to make their money?

I am seeing new vlogs of Flock this year. I love seeing the inventory and discovery of new vendors at festivals I cannot attend. I guess I should try reaching out directly if I wanted to purchase something? I saw some really gorgeous fiber, and would love to purchase it. It is not available online. I want to be able to support these businesses.

I would like to understand this better, and hopefully someone here can give a good explanation. Thank you!

Music albums your parents would listen to front to back when you were a kid.

I'm (29F) curious to know which albums were most played in your household when you were a kid, and if they still resonate with you today. I'm also interested to see if there are any common albums between commenters!

My list is what I most vividly remember from ages 6-14. My Mom had full custody of me, so this is mostly her music. She didn't make a lot of money, so whenever she bought a CD it was a real treat, and would be listened to in full, and very often.

I also didn't really listen to my own music until maybe 2011, any time before that it would be whatever was on the radio, or what my parents listened to. I didn't have a personal computer with Internet until 2011-2012ish.

These are listed chronologically when I had heard them, to the best of my ability:

Enya (Shepherd Moons). My Mom would put this on at night if I had nightmares.

Sade (The Best of Sade). I used to hate when she would put this on! But now I really love Sade.

Madonna (Ray of Light). This album is so iconic for me. It captures such a specific sound of the time that cannot be found anywhere else.

J-Lo (J to tha L–O! The Remixes). My Mom dated a very rich man at the time, and she would blast this in his borrowed convertible.

The Prodigy (Fat of the Land). We watched Charlie's Angels very often, and they were on the soundtrack.

The B-52's (Time Capsule, Songs for a Future Generation). This album was played SO MUCH. I have the lyrics memorized.

Rinôçérôse (Hits Album?). This was her boyfriend's album at the time. An obscure French Electro Rock band.

The boyfriend mentioned above would burn CDs from Limewire. He made a couple electronic music compilations with The Chemical Brothers on it. Most of the songs would cut off halfway through because it was ripped. We still listened to it!

ACTUAL Advanced Knitter YouTube Channel Recommendations

I'm looking for recommendations on YouTubers/Vloggers (long form content) that I can put on while knitting. Not a tutorial/tips only channel.

I am looking for content creators with ACTUAL YEARS OF EXPERIENCE.

Lately there has been a big boom of people new to the knitting/fiber arts scene, and documenting their progress. While I can see the appeal in that, this is not what I am looking for! I want to listen to someone that actually knows what they're talking about.

Thank you in advance! I'd also love to discuss this topic, and maybe what you like to see in a content creator as an advanced knitter.

2 major part replacements 6 months after purchase, should I contact the dealership?

I would really appreciate any advice on my situation, and how I should move forward.

I am wondering if I should attempt to reach out to the dealership I purchased my 2020 Crosstrek from 6 months ago. Mostly due to my disappointment after now 2 major parts need replacing.

This dealership is a 4hr drive from where I live. Unfortunately I made this purchase emotionally because I was dead set on replacing my previous car that was totaled in an easily avoidable accident. I regret this now.

The whole buying process was uncomfortable. I had to make arrangements with two different salesmen, and once I arrived at the lot I closed the deal with the owner (never spoke to before), because those two salesmen weren't even there.

One week after purchase, the car became disabled at an intersection. I took it to my local dealership to find out I needed the Valve Body replaced. $3k. I called the dealership I purchased from, and they worked with the warranty company and my local dealership to get it covered. At first it wasn't entirely covered due to labor, so I was pretty upset. Somehow I ended up paying $340 out of pocket, and they refused to cover that cost.

Now 6 months later, the car isn't yet disabled, but there is a failing internal valve in the transmission. This requires a full replacement, which is $11k! The same place that did the Valve Body no longer works with my warranty company (I wonder why?). So I am currently taking it to another dealership that does work with my warranty to see about getting it replaced.

I'm just so disappointed. I am wondering if it would be worth it at all to contact the place I purchased from to tell them my current situation, and if they will assist me out of goodwill. I am very inexperienced with car sales, and a bit intimidated by who I purchased from. I am going to look into my paperwork again, and do some research on Lemon Law in my state (NY) to see if anything can be done on my end. I imagine this would be taken a lot more seriously if the vehicle was completely disabled though. I think I caught the problem early.

Thank you for reading.

ISO Shibui Knits Pebble (Boreal)

Looking for 2-4 more skeins of this specific colorway collab with Les Garcon. I am also open to purchasing other colorways if 4-6 skeins are available, it does depend on the colorway though. Thank you!

Trying to identify this noise.

2020 Subaru Crosstrek with 31k miles.

This is a new noise. I was just at a mechanic Monday to replace rear brakes and rotors. This noise was happening before that, and they didn't do anything about it since they couldn't replicate the noise at the shop.

This groaning comes with a burning smell. It only happens after driving it once, parking for a while, then getting back in. This happens when reversing with no foot on any pedal. It *always* happens when I leave my boyfriend's house. Otherwise it is rare/occasional.

There is also a new groan/whirr noise when accelerating from a stop, which sounds different and is more rare. I don't notice burning odor.

The front brakes do need to be replaced soon, and I plan to do that in a month or two since I need an oil change around that time.

I mostly want to know if this is a more serious issue than brakes. I bought this car around the new year, and from my knowledge it has been sitting at the dealership unsold for around 3-4 years. So I am not sure if I should be replacing any fluids strictly due to age. Thank you for reading. I would appreciate any help.

Officially done with Dye To Order

Before I get too stinky about this, Zakami DID allow me to return this (which is not their typical return policy for dyed to order lots). I am shipping it back today.

I am officially done with dyed to order lots. After waiting patiently for 9 weeks, and receiving this from outside the US, I am burned once again by unmet expectations. I was expecting rich, earthy, almost jewel tones like the example. What I received was bright, almost neon, springtime tones.

I am led to believe that their example image was edited in some way. I can see how what I received could look like the right example skein, but it is still missing colors from the left skein. Even then, the colors are of different saturation.

I totally understand how difficult it is to capture the true color of the yarn in a photo. And for that reason I am done with dyed to order unless I see it in person. Now, I'm not an indie dyer myself, but I could imagine this being quite stressful. Trying to match an example that is variegated, and hoping that the buyer is satisfied. It might make sense to only dye stock that someone will buy, rather than dying too many skeins no one is buying. Maybe a dyer can chime in on this aspect? Are you mostly putting your feelers out to see what sells?

Thanks for reading my little vent. I'm glad I could return this order, even if at a loss.

UPDATE: Someone left an entire 3D printer setup at my door.

This is a belated update to a previous post with the same title. About two weeks after the 3D Printer was left at my door, a photo of Jesus, and a dead wasp was left at my door while I was away for the weekend. The wasp was on the windowsill in my apartment stairwell, but was moved.

Many of you were right. It was from someone I had known about 3 years ago now. I associated myself with this person for about a year, but I had to cut things off because he was mentally unwell/unstable. In the email, I don't even remember taking a photo at the redacted local diner. I don't even recall mentioning a 3D printer to him, or desiring one. I replied to his email to please leave me alone and to not contact me again. He supposedly understood.

I did put up a camera at my door, and I have not seen him since. So that is good.

I also told him that I will be donating the 3D printer to a local library, which I did. He didn't demand the printer back.

Left lane cruisers on 481N

A tale as old as time.

The stretch of 481N between the new interchange and Clay exit is particularly terrible. Every time you get 7 cars bumper to bumper in the left lane behind one ignorant ding dong riding tandem with the right lane car.

90 is the same, but with tractor trailers.

Big shout out to 81N drivers. You guys know how to drive. This never happens in the North Country.

Is it worth it to ship your personal vehicle to the destination?

Hey all! I (29F) am located in NY, and it has always been a goal to explore the western half of the US. I have only visited Denver by plane for a few days.

I am debating two options:

Fly out West, rent a camper van, and fly back.

Fly out West, ship my personal vehicle to travel with, then drive back home in my own car.

I am mostly trying to shave a few days of travel time off my trip, because I could only take up to 2 weeks PTO. I'd really love to take a month off, but I don't think they would allow that (plus my SO also taking time off).

Has anyone shipped their personal vehicle before? I am wondering which is the better option. I would also just prefer driving my own car. Thanks for reading.

What should I get my disabled cousin for her 30th birthday?

My cousin and I are both turning 30 this year! She has a summer birthday.

Unfortunately, my cousin discovered a brain tumor at 16 that required brain surgery. This has left her disabled. She then suffered a stroke due to malpractice which left her more physically disabled. She is still very much herself but requires a full time nurse. She has some speech/memory troubles, but it's mild, and you can have a complete conversation with her. She lives with her Mom, and uses a wheelchair. Her mind works like she is frozen at age 16, and she doesn't want to believe she is 30 (though she is aware of her actual age).

We used to be very close as kids, and we would have sleepovers often. She lives an hour away. I only see her for family events/holidays nowadays. We don't really talk outside of that.

Whenever I ask her about gift ideas for any occasion, she always jokes about getting a boyfriend, or hiring male strippers. She often brings up getting a tattoo, but she is indecisive on what she wants, and I'm sure she is nervous about scheduling a consultation.

A lot of times she receives gag gifts. She loves eating at Panera, but I always get her a gift card for that. I want to get her something a bit more special, but it's like she has already received a "special" physical gift from everyone due to her condition. I see all of these items in her room. She doesn't need more stuff. Her Mom has been having a difficult time finding full time nurses in her area, and it's only going to get worse because they live in a smaller, rural town.

Why are there no music festivals hosted at the fairgrounds?

I feel like this is such a missed opportunity. Plenty of space and buildings to use. The amphitheater is also now available. So much parking.

Is it because the space is just too large? Costs too much money? Has there ever been a music festival there?

Edit: moreso with national acts, not strictly local artists. Like EDC, Lollapalooza, etc.

Starry Sky Sweater 🌌

I was a little hesitant to post here because this is mostly embroidery!

This is The Starry Sky Sweater by Naomi Tsuda. This is a fully charted pattern from an OOP book. Below is a link to the pattern on Ravelry. You can find my project there. I tried to write down some details on the process there:

https://ravel.me/starry-sky-sweater-

This was made with Harrisville Designs Highland. Highly recommended for heirloom quality items! It is not scratchy at all, it feels like a comfy sweatshirt.

I will be attending NY Sheep and Wool (Rhinebeck), A Woolen Affair, and Indie Untangled this year. So if you see me, feel free to say hello! I'm really looking forward to attending. The Hudson Valley in the fall is gorgeous.

Not going to lie, I'm feeling a bit lost on what to make next. I don't think anything I make will be as cool as this.

Thank you for looking, it has been such an honor to make this sweater. Reviving an almost forgotten pattern.

I'd be happy to answer any questions about the techniques used!

Looking for a partial skein to finish off a very special sweater! Pretty sure I'm going to lose yarn chicken here, and don't want to purchase an entire new skein just to do Italian BO. You can check my post history for more info on this sweater.

🙏 Thank you so much for viewing, I hope someone out there can help!

I came home (an apartment complex) yesterday to a 3D printer (sealed in the box), along with what I assume is refill material. The shipping label was ripped off. Tucked between the boxes is a scratch off lottery ticket.

I'm not really sure what I should do about it. I have strong suspicions. I am going to leave it outside for another day to see if anyone picks it up. Perhaps someone delivered it to the wrong unit? But I can't really know because it's missing the shipping label.

The scratch off ticket makes me think someone just dropped it at a random doorstep because they didn't want it. But that also concerns me, maybe it wasn't random but targeted? I am worried about taking it in.

Any advice on this?
