Should I switch to EC paper?

I am from a cfti (mid nit) where I have a chance to get into IIT/IISC without out gate

score only through interview but I should have a very good cgpa.

I am interested in vlsi but I am from electrical, but too boost up my cgpa i am doing gate preparation for ee paper.

I am not interested and psus and all but only the cfti based entry option is making me stick to ee paper. What should I do?

NIT AP to IIT Madras MoU (Direct MS/PhD) - Can an EEE student shift to VLSI / Microelectronics?

I am currently a 4th-semester B.Tech student in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) at NIT Andhra Pradesh. Our institute recently released a notice regarding an MoU with IIT Madras for a student exchange program during our 7th and 8th semesters, which directly transitions into a direct PhD / MS by Research program at IITM.

Here is the situation:

  • We have to submit our preferences and a Statement of Purpose (SOP) very soon.
  • Shortlisted students will do a mandatory 2-month summer internship at IITM (May–July) where faculty will assess our capabilities before final selection for the 7th/8th semester.
  • I am officially an EEE student, but my core interest lies heavily in the ECE domain—specifically VLSI and Microelectronics.

Looking at the IIT Madras department list in our notice, they don't have a separate "ECE" department; they just have Electrical Engineering.

I have a few questions for IITM students, seniors, or anyone familiar with this specific MoU:

  1. Academic Flexibility: Since I am coming from an EEE background, will the IITM EE department allow me to choose my 7th/8th-semester electives and subsequent MS research in the VLSI/Microelectronics stream, or will they expect me to stick to Power Electronics/Power Systems because of my NIT degree name?
  2. Screening & Interview: Will the interview panel for the MS transition care heavily that my foundational B.Tech courses were EEE-oriented rather than ECE? How tough is it to bridge that gap during the 7th/8th semester?

Are there any one joining bits this year from electrical background?

Most of the posts I see are from ec ones.

I genuinely want to what might be the gate score required in gate EE!
