Video editing : Is i5 14600k vs i7 14700k worth almost 200 euros difference ? And what setup for Motherboard and cooling around ?

Hi,

Thanks from different topics and discussion, I finally fixed my choice to stay on my DDR4 system for now (DDR5 is too crazy steep, I wont have the posisbility to put more than 1000 only on ram...)

So I decided to go on the 14th gen, even with the heat problem.

Problem : in France at least, even those seem to suffer from price increase,

If I dont want to buy it from strange dropshipping, i7 is around 410-429,00 €, and the i5 259€^(95)

^(Does the extra cores really will make a difference ? Or shall I even go to an older gen in order not to spend so much and wait for the ram drop ?)
^((To be fair, I'm coming from a i7-6800k so anything will be a level-up...))

^(Bonus question : What motherboard shall I look for (my goal : max of usb ports, max of HDD connexions and max of ram slots if more than 4 exists (I have 8 now...)) ? And what kind of cooling ?)

^(Thanks a lot !)

Premiere Pro 4k/7k setup : is 32gb RAM enough with the new 270k plus ?

Hi there,

Everything is a bit in the title.

I recently posted a question about updating my old i7-6800k to a MSI 5800X (in order to keep the max of DDR4 ram, etc), but I was thinking making the big leap and go for a i7 270k plus.

OG post : https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/1t92i28/premiere_pro_station_lags_is_it_worth_to_cheap/

The only downside is that I should go with new RAM Sticks, so, if we talk about 64gb, its 1000 euros...

As this new proc seem pretty efficient, especially with premiere pro, will 32gb suffice ? (and if so, is there some Clock etc to worry ?) Or shall I stick with 5800x and more ram ?

My main goal : 4k editing (maybe 7k soon with those new generations camera) mainly.

My old i7 is still rocking at this, but I can clearly see it's suffering...

And bonus questions :
-no reason for everything else (power, ssd, Graphic card) not to be compatible, right ?
-If I update the processor and motherboard, shall I do a fresh install of windows etc ?
(usually when I updated my pc it was from scratch, so it's my main question)

Thanks !

Premiere pro station lags : is it worth to cheap update or new build ?

Hi there,

I already asked a similar question but I have a few options now.

My computer is slowly showing signs of age : since the last premiere pro update, it keeps freezing, i need to work on proxies etc. +its not "win 11 compatible" (I should try Rufus etc, but is it worth it ?)

My actual setup is :
-MSI X99A SLI
-Intel Core i7-6800K
-6 slots of RAM like this

-Nvidia RTX 3060

A few bunch of SSD and HDD, but I know I'm gonna need to think about this as new Motherboard dont allow that much HDD (is it possible that so much HDD are causing my PC to slow down ?

My goal : without breaking the bank, and based on some of my parts, can I update a bit to smooth my main use which is editing 4k videos ? And in opposite, what would be a good update, and how much in those time of crisis ?

I went to some shops here, and that is what they propose when I ask to keep my DDR4 :

-MSI B550
-Ryzen 7 5800X
-a new ventilator bc mine is not good enough

My only (and maybe not the only one) downside of this : B550 only have 4 slots, so I will loose at least 16gb of ram. And Adobe loves RAM (rich b£$$ behavior in those days)

Is it still worth it ? Am I thinking right or am i trying to spare but with too much compromise ? Shall I go DDR5, newer computer and try to sell this one for some bucks ?

I'm willing to spend more as it's one of my main course of incomes, its just that the insane RAM prices is refraining me for now. But maybe i'm wrong to think this way. And those 45 crashes in a row yesterday prove me wrong (even when suddenly at 8pm everything started to run smooth without a reason).

Thanks a lot (I'm based in France by the way)
