DCT on i30 N sometimes jerks during aggressive driving — did I do something wrong?

I30N, 47000 km, maintenance always on time. First time with this car, 3 weeks owner, first time turbo car.

DCT sometimes gives a slight jerk when I’m driving aggressively. For example, when driving in the mountains, I can understand it happening occasionally during a downshift.

However, something happened earlier on the highway that made me wonder if I did something wrong.

I accelerated up to around 160 km/h in 4th gear, then lifted off the throttle and simultaneously changed gear using the paddle shifter. I felt a slight jerk instead of a smooth gear change.

Is this normal behavior for the DCT, or did I do something wrong by lifting off the throttle while shifting with the paddle?

Has anyone else experienced this?

Etf portfolio

Hi, 30M, regular avarage job in Ticino. I invest 300 chf/month using SAXO bank in SSAC_CHF(iShares MSCI ACWI USD Acc UCITS ETF) and curretly have 1000 chf in it. I will continue for like 20 years and that's it. I also buy 2g of gold every month with Raiffeisen since 2022.

I also have 120k sitting in the bank account. I would like to invest like 20k in one etf (and only one, I'm really scared of doing this kind of things...). It could be a good idea to put them here: CHSPI(iShares Core SPI (CH) ETF)? Never check back and just wait? Do you have any others suggestions of my current situation?

Is a slight, constant burble in Normal mode on a 2023 i30N DCT normal?

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a 2023 Hyundai i30N DCT, and I'm still getting used to how the car sounds.

I've noticed that even in Normal mode, especially when I start the car and drive the first minutes, when I lift off the throttle (or also downhill), I can hear a light, constant burble from the exhaust. They're not loud pops or bangs like in N mode, just a subtle "brrr/burble" during deceleration.

The car is completely stock, and everything else seems to work perfectly.

Is this normal behavior for the facelift i30N, or should Normal mode be almost completely quiet?

Thanks!

Is it bad to switch to N mode immediately after a cold start?

I have a question, though. Right after a cold start, I usually switch the car to N mode almost immediately. I don't floor it or drive aggressively until the engine is fully warmed up, I always keep the revs low and wait for the oil temperature to come up.

Could simply selecting N mode right after starting the engine cause any extra wear or mechanical issues, even if I'm still driving gently?

Would you buy an i30 N with 80000 km?

Hi everyone,

I'm seriously considering buying a 2022 Hyundai i30 N DCT with around 80,000 km for 25000 euro (performance edition). The car has a full service history and seems to be in good condition, but the mileage is making me hesitate.

I've read about a few engine failures online, although I know people are much more likely to post when something goes wrong than when everything is fine.

For those of you who own an i30 N or know these cars well:

Is 80,000 km considered high for this car?

What are the most important things I should check before buying?

Have you experienced any major reliability issues after this mileage?

Would you still buy one with 80,000 km if it had been properly maintained?

I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences, especially from owners with 100,000 km+.

Thanks

Burnt exhaust valve mx5 NC

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice and hopefully a bit of reassurance from people familiar with these engines.

I have a Mazda MX-5 NC with around 71,000 km (44k miles). The car has always been well maintained, doesn't noticeably consume oil, and has always run great. I do enjoy driving it enthusiastically and occasionally take it up into the higher rev range, but I've never abused it.

Recently, the engine developed a misfire. The spark plugs and ignition coils have already been replaced, but the problem remained unchanged.

After taking the car to a mechanic, a proper compression test showed that cylinder #2 has low compression. Further inspection indicates that the cause is a burnt exhaust valve. At this point, however, the reason why the valve failed is still unknown.

Unfortunately, the estimated cost of the repair is around €4,000, which came as quite a shock considering the car's relatively low mileage.

What worries me is that:

  • the problem appeared suddenly
  • the engine doesn't smoke
  • oil consumption is normal
  • the car still runs reasonably well
  • the mileage is very low for this type of engine

Has anyone experienced something similar on an NC? Is a burnt valve at this mileage just an unfortunate random failure, or are there any known causes that should be investigated before simply repairing the cylinder head?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has dealt with a similar situation or has any insight into what might have caused this.

Thanks!

Cambio valvola scarico pistone e guide future

Potrò continuare a guidare tranquillamente oppure dovrò andare in giro in ansia e controllando ogni rumore?

Low compression on cylinder #2 of my Miata NC - should I be worried?

Hi everyone,

I could really use some reassurance/advice from people who know these engines.

I have a Mazda MX-5 NC with around 71,000 km (44k miles). The car has always been well maintained, doesn't noticeably consume oil, and runs great. I do drive it enthusiastically sometimes and I enjoy taking it high in the rev range, but I don't abuse it.

Recently I started having what seems like a misfire issue. I checked the ignition components and while investigating, I did a very rough compression check on cylinder #2 (not with a proper compression tester, just a very improvised test with a hose and my finger). It seemed to have noticeably lower pressure than the others.

Now I'm obviously worried that I might be looking at a major engine problem (burnt valve, piston rings, etc.) and my mind immediately jumped to the worst-case scenario.

The strange thing is that:

- the issue appeared suddenly

- the car doesn't smoke

- oil consumption seems normal

- it still runs reasonably well

- mileage is quite low for these engines

Could this still be something relatively simple like a spark/coil/injector issue, or should I prepare myself for a serious repair?

I know the first step is doing a proper compression test and probably a leak-down test, but I'm just looking for some perspective from people who have dealt with similar situations. Tomorrow my car will be at the mechanic

Thanks!

Etf investment suggest for noob

Briefly: I would like to invest around 500 CHF per month into the VWCE ETF over the next few years. I have to admit I don’t really understand much about investing yet. Is this a good idea? At the moment I have a lot of cash, but only a few investments (a small gold investment and a monthly savings plan with Swiss Life).

Practically speaking, what do I need to do? Which reliable Swiss website or broker would you recommend?
