The essay contains, in short: a. my gratitude to the people who had been working tirelessly decade after decade not only to preserve but to invent ways of preserving and showcasing humanity’s greatest achievements, whose names and contributions I will try to mention as frequently as possible; b. my very brief reflections on the temples and the work that is currently visible and available to anyone who intends to visit Athens; c. my thoughts on the influence of the Acropolis on the architectural profession of today.

Writing within a specific niche (Architecture and Art History)

Hello, I recently joined Substack and I write essays within Architecture and Art History. The essays can be technical, but they are more akin to something like John Ruskin or Jun'ichirō Tanizaki pieces. They can range from 5 pages to 20 pages and I was wondering if this is too much for Substack. I also wonder what the best way is to gain more traction on such a niche and if posting notes or quotes does anything.

Hello, I am a film poster designer and I did this poster for a film about a story set in the Spanish Civil War. The film follows a family who welcome a charismatic stranger in their home. The night in the house starts to become an allegory for the country itself. Please let me know your thoughts.

Here is the third one. During my trip to Rome I took photos of the architecture to recreate posters for films which took place in the city. It is a Tripych comprised of La Dolce Vita, Gladiator and La Grande Bellezza.

Hi, I wrote this list at the begining of this year as we crossed the first quarter of the century to also understand my own preferences. Note: these are selected from films which I have seen, and some others made the extended list but are not in the top 10.

So here is the 'The Blues Triptych' featuring Spirited Away, Ghost in the Shell and Neon Genesis Evangelion. I would like to thank everyone who gave me feedback on these, I tried my best to answer to all the people who took time to give their opinions.

So to clarify a few points which have been raised by people on all three posters.

  1. It was not my intention to represent any specific scene in any of the original pieces. I saw people asking about details on the Major's body, or train tracks in Spirited Away. I think these comments are valid, as people see these as perhaps as attempts of representation of the original artwork, but that was not my target. I simply wanted to illustrate my thoughts on the films, namely:
    a. Chihiro as the embodiment of the strangeness of childhoods and her almost looking through the spell
    b. Major's acknowledgment of the inevitability of sacrifice, or in simpler terms: in order to arrive to a purple, a blue has to sacrifice itself, a red has to sacrifice itself, without knowing to which extent.
    c. The simple melancholy of the Eva Unit's life.

  2. Typography is something people commented very clearly and I agree with most of comments. Some things are unclear, illegible or simply make not much sense when accurately translated from Japanese. Some things I have not taken into consideration and I think everyone was right to point it out.

  3. Anatomy was also discussed, primarily on Ghost in the Shell - which I do agree with. Major is a bit too thick and some things are slightly off, which are only visible perhaps to a fresh eye or if you rotate and mirror the painting enough times. Eva Unit could also benefit from more clarity in forms so certain things appear immediately. So highlights on the face, and some edges could be improved for this result.

All in all, thank you. My name is Kerim Silajdžić and feel free to ask me anything about these posters.

Hi, I am a film poster designer. I recently finished a Spirited Away poster. No AI used. It is a part of a blue triptych together with Ghost in the Shell and Neon Genesis: Evangelion. Please let me know your thoughts.

Painted in PS, calligraphy outsourced to a Japanese designer. I wanted to represent the spell of the bath house and Chihiro looking through it.

Hi, I recently finished a Neon Genesis: Evangelion poster. No AI used. It is a part of a blue triptych together with Ghost in the Shell and Spirited Away. Please let me know your thoughts.

Painted in PS, I worked primarily on the red version until the very last minute when I switched to blue. I don't know what the concept was to be fully honest, apart from the fact that I wanted to represent the scale and the angelic presence in an empty field.
