I've finally brought myself to do it...

With tomorrow being results day, I decided to finally get rid of the final thing tying my to GCSES... The massive pile of past papers and worksheets that has been sat on my table ever since I sorted out all my revison stuff. Ah, it feels so good!

Tics getting worse?!

Hey! I was diagnosed around 1.5 years ago, and I kinda thought my tics have settled down a bit now. I get the odd bad days, but mostly it's just my neck jerks and subtle clicking sounds that I'm fairly used to and don't take much notice of. However, recently, whenever I've had a bad attack with lots of vocal tics (clicking and popping sounds), I almost feel like a preliminary urge for a spoken vocal tic. Like my mouth opens and goes to say something in the middle of the attack, but then I take control before I can verbalise anything. Kinda scared because it feels like I'm about to say "F*ck off", and I am NOT a person who uses profanity whatsoever in daily life. I found myself slipping into following my friends on a recent camp and swearing a bit, so idk if this has set it off, but I'm scared that this will develop into one of my tics. Has anyone experienced similar to this?

Advice on what to get for 6th form!

Hey! This is a list of what I think I'll need, based off what I used most at GCSE and what my 6th form loosely reccomended in inductions (not very much guidance though). Was told I won't need a protractor or compass. I've got a casio FX 991CW, going to upgrade to the CG100 at Christmas. Carrying this all in a Kanken laptop backpack that I used in year 11. Is there anything I really don't need, or anything that I am missing? The ring binders won't be carried every day, but I was told I need atleast 1 for each subject to start with, but realistically atleast 3 for maths. I have coloured notebooks that are literally like the esso books you work in at highschool, all colour-coded for each subject. Ty! Sorry if this is too much!

EPQ vs HPQ?

Hey! I'm starting 6th form in September and was just beginning to think about my EPQ. I got A in my HPQ, and did "What does society define as a ‘hidden’ disability and how does society treat those with ‘hidden’ disabilities?" as my topic. I wanted to do my HPQ on 'how early is too early when it comes to teaching first aid', but was advised to do hidden disabilities as there is more information widely available. I know EPQ has more of a research element, and I was wondering if first aid education would be a good idea. I want to look at what has been done, where the national curriculum still fails (statistics re deaths that first aid could have prevented, how first aid education is perfunctory and merely done as box ticking exercise, etc), and perhaps bring in my own research that takes into account the views of young people, as well as the debate that teaching first aid too early traumatises young children (it doesn't, but gotta keep this balanced). Would this be good enough to achieve an A* again if executed well? How significant is the step-up in difficulty between HPQ ans EPQ? I have some stuff from my English Language Spoken Endorsement that I can look at as I did it on a very similar topic, and I'm passionate about this subject, do a lot of social action, and want to go into medicine. Btw if anyone wants to read my HPQ just send me a message!

Enjoying the little things...

So, things have been pretty bad for me recently. But now isn't the time to go into all that. But I'm currently on holiday, which is hard for me to enjoy at the moment. Yet, sat here now trying to fill in 5 days worth of mood journals (the default thing for when my feelings are complicated I guess), I couldn't help but smile at the beautiful sunset. Things are hard and can get pretty awful, but small things like these always remind me that the small things are definitely worth keeping an open mind for.

This is taking the mick!

TRIPLE SCIENCE STUDENTS! So, that 6 marker on titrations where you used a pH probe instead of indicator... We did that exact practical on my induction day! The pain in doing the whole method that haunted me. And the acid kept falling out of the pipette since it was too hot (honestly, I hate this heatwave). I just chuckled when I realised what we were doing. Oh, and pH probes and data loggers are so complex and difficult to set up...

Self-teaching over summer...

Hey, just asking for some advice? What would be the best way to go about teaching myself most of a-level maths over this summer (I did additonal and further at GCSE and so know most of pure and a few bits from mechanics and statistics). Thinking if I learnt maths and was confident in it then I could put more focus into biology and chemistry. Also are the head start to A-Level books good for biology (aqa) and chemistry (ocr), and any other reccomendations to get a head start apart from the specifications? I've already done all my summer work and their extensions, I'm getting bored now lol!

What's it like when things get worse?

TW: SELF HARM AND MILD ABUSE

Hey, for a bit of context I've just finished secondary school and things have been going downhill as I've lost what has been a really great support system for the past 5 years, and now I don't really have much until September. Earlier this year I started accessing drop in sessions at a local charity and they have been absolutely wonderful, once a fortnight and I just feel so listened to and can vent about whatever. Yet, it definitely isn't the same as being surrounded by adults who you can ask for help from every day (school). This charity also does counselling which I'm on a waiting list for, but that may not start until early next year. I've had sessions with a school counsellor before and other stuff, but no school now. These drop ins at the moment are limited to 1 a week, but in a half term just before the end of school I went twice in a week. I'd hit a real low and was really struggling. It kinds got real when they started asking safety netting quesrions and stuff. Anyways, the whole point of this post is that I'm going on Tuesday for a drop in but I only went last week. I've been struggling a lot, getting self harm urges again after being clean for a while, to the point that I'm thinking of self harming differently to conceal it more from others. I'm also restricting what I eat - I know it's not good for me, but it makes me feel in control and I've done it before. And I'm just generally really having a hard time relaxing and keep thinking about when a year and a half ago my dad hit me bc of something to do with food. If I told them all this would they ask the safety netting questions again? What would actually happen? I know it's hard to know for sure but I'm catastrophising here. It's not like they can tell my school who could give more support, would I be encouraged to go down the GP route? Thanks.

Packaging?

Hi! I'm planning on selling some GCSE textbooks and notes on Vinted and was wondering on the best way to package them? I was thinking about wrapping them in bubble wrap and then putting in a plastic mailer bag. Would this be suitable or would I need another layer of packing?

Calculators...

Hey! I just had a question regarding calculators for A-Level maths (edexcel). I just had a look through a pure paper 1 and it says this (see photo below) about the calculators you're allowed. I've got this casino calculator (see second photo) because it was reccomend by my FSMQ additional maths teacher (he's an A-Level maths teacher) and said it would be good for A-Level. But can't this calculator do integration? And what does it mean by symbolic algebra manipulation - it said the same on my FSMQ paper.

Advice for year 11s?

Hey! First of all I hope A-Levels are going well for you all! Us year 11s have all finished our GCSEs and now have 12 weeks of freedom before having to suffer whatever hell you all are going through. My induction day is next Thursday and I've already ordered a lot od textbooks and stuff. I was just wondering if any of you have any words of wisdom for us? What's the best thing to do over summer to walk into September as prepared as you can. I'm aiming for A*d (Bio AQA, Chem OCR, Maths Edexcel - guess what career I want lol) and I'm just wanting to do everything I can to set myself up to do as well as I can. Is there something that really confuses you all that you wish you already knew, or any other advice for this summer? I have summer tasks to do and was planning to do the head start to A-Level books, but what else could I do? Sorry this is so long, thanks in advance!

This isn't even everything...

34 exercise books.

29 revision guides/exam question books.

9 sets of flashcards.

A small forest's worth of paper.

Let's hope no questions are asked about why the school has no budget left...

Who's ran out of past papers?

I've been doing every past paper since 2018 for all of my sciences and I have only just realised I've done all the biology ones and now I'm clueless on how I will revise tomorrow. Gonna try and find some predicted papers and even the specimen set lol. Anyone else in the same situation?

Me today in language paper 2...

I walk into the exam and see the paper, 16 page answe booklet, additional answer booklets, and tissues. Ok - it is very likely that I will cry. BUT I AM NOT WRITING THE NEXT HARRY POTTER NOVEL! I am smart, but smart enough to know that 16 pages would be excessive!!
