How has your approach to gaming changed over the years?
Lately I’ve been trying to play games the way I did back in the 90s. After too much scrolling and watching short videos, I felt like my attention span was getting worse. For the past couple of months, gaming has been my way of healing form
I’ve stopped looking up guides and builds then I try to solve puzzles myself. If an optional puzzle has been unsolvable, I move on. If it blocks the main story, I take a break or play something else before coming back to it. I’ve also stopped chasing platinum trophies. I want to enjoy the game without feeling like I have to complete a checklist
I usually stick to one game but if I start feeling even just a slight burn out, I switch games or catch up on a show. I’m more comfortable following my mood instead of pushing through when the game feels like a chore but I’ll definitely come back to that game, just in a different or fresh mood
It reminds me of being a kid when I didn’t have the internet to look up for guides or builds and trophies weren’t a thing. I remember being stuck in the first Silent Hill for over a year because I couldn’t solve a locked door puzzle. I just played other games or watched anime. There was no rush, simple times
How do you approach gaming these days? Do you still play the way you used to or have your habits changed?
Edit:
I finished Control Resonant yesterday and I’m proud of solving all the puzzles on my own. I haven’t unlocked every trophy and it’s still tempting to chase the rest but I’m learning to be satisfied with the experience without feeling like I have to complete everything
