How to get puppy to stop barking at every little noise he hears?

Hi everyone,

My puppy just turned 5 months old. Seems like every week he has a new behaviour he discovers. This week is barking at every little sound he hears, many that we aren’t able to hear.

We live in a semi detached home so I’m sure he can hear the people next door. Any tips/tricks? He barks and will keep barking until we get his attention to something else. It’s also not a playful bark, it’s like a “protection” or “alarm” kind of bark.

Does our puppy have bowed back legs?

Hello everyone, is this a sign of concern? He’s coming up to 5 months old. This was towards the end of his walk, I need to pay more attention to see if it worsens by the end of each walk. Should this be brought up to his vet? TIA!

Anyone have the Douglas adjustable bed bases?

I’m just wondering as my husband and I recent got two twin XL bases and so far enjoying them.

I’m just wondering what you ended up doing about a head board? We got the part that attaches so that we can get a headboard. Does it need to be a Douglas one?

Puppy daycare location?

Hey everyone,

I have a 4 month old Aussiedoodle and I’m wondering if there is some kind of puppy only daycare. I would love to have him go once a week to take time away from myself (I’m home all day as I WFH), and also for him to socialize. But I really would prefer puppy only. Would love some recommendations in Oshawa or Durham region!

4 month old puppy is nervous around other dogs, need advice.

Hey everyone,

I’m starting to get a bit worried about my puppy. He is an Aussiedoodle, he absolutely loves people and dogs but he is just so nervous in front of dogs.

He barks at them when they are close, he wags his tail the entire time and has his bum in the air but as soon as the other dog comes close he jumps away. It makes me nervous because I don’t remember any of our previous dogs being like this as pups. I also remember a neighbour having a puppy reacting similarly and now the dog is very unfriendly with other dogs.

We take him for walks 2-3 times a day and he has been in puppy classes since 14 weeks old. Any thoughts or advice on this? I feel so embarrassed when he starts barking and barking, then running away. Also, worried that he will be reactive and mean with other dogs once he is older.

Puppy playdates?

Any idea where I can find a place that does puppy play dates? Just looking to socialize my 15 week old puppy better. He can be so shy around other dogs and doesn’t know how to react, gets overly excited and barks. So would love to have time to socialize. He does go to puppy training school but it would be nice to just have time for him to play with other puppies.

Truly, how do you stop the puppy nipping and biting?

I’m truly feeling hopeless and so overwhelmed by my 15 week old puppy. He is biting and nipping a ton, especially when overly excited but also happen a lot out of nowhere. He will chomp down on my husbands arm and wrist and draws blood.

We do everything we can, he has enforced naps, enrichment toys, 3 walks a day, collagen bones, pupsicles, everything and he just continues with the biting.

Doing a yelp doesn’t help, he almost thinks you’re a big squeak toy. Walking away and ignoring doesn’t help. We have started to put him in his crate for 2-3 mins with an enrichment toy when he starts doing it. It “resets” him sometimes. Any other tips?

Need help with some training of my 13 week old puppy!

Hello everyone,

I have a 13 week old Aussiedoodle, he is lovely and wow I can’t believe how smart he is. We take him to weekly training classes and I plan on asking the same questions to my trainer tomorrow. But in the mean time, what has worked for you in regard to these things:

- how did you teach drop it and leave it? Our boy loves to pick up wood chips outside and leaves, almost just about anything.

- my husband takes him out of his crate in the morning for his first morning pee. Then I come down and puppy will wait at the bottom of the stairs for me. As soon as I get half way down the stairs he starts barking at me, it’s very playful as he puts his bottom in the are and wags his tail, he’s very excited to see me. I try not to react and slowly come down only when he stops barking. But this is a new thing that start happening two days ago

- and lastly, sometimes we eat on the sofa and he will jump and put his two paws on your lap or on the sofa. I guide him with a treat and once four paws are on the ground I give it to him. But it’s tough when some days he will do this when he is overly excited and can nip at you

Would love to hear about some good ways to train and correct certain behaviour. Thank you!

Puppy becomes so wild almost every evening?

Hello everyone,

We got a puppy 2 weeks ago. He is 12 weeks old and such a cutie. During the day he isn’t too bad, he doesn’t usually have accidents, and he naps when we place him in his crate. He is very food motivated, and he enjoys playing with his toys. Overall, a good boy.

But almost every evening, after he wakes up from his nap around 8/8:30pm he becomes a little demon baby. He will starts to chew things (furniture) and my husband and I, he will have pee accidents (like 2 within 20 minutes of each other even if we take him outside), he will pull up the carpet using his teeth, and the list goes on. The only thing that may be different is my husband gets home from work around 5:30, puppy has enforced nap around 6:30. Maybe he is excited that my husband is home? I am home all day and we have a very good routine in place. Is it common for puppies to get so wild in the evening?

Puppy crate training

We had had our 11 week old puppy for almost a week (tomorrow). We have been doing crating since he arrived, made sure to put food in there and make it positive.

Overnight he is completely fine sleeping next to our bed in the crate. Doesn’t usually fuss. But we have a larger crate in basement where I put him for naps and he won’t nap unless we are right by the crate. Been trying to leave for short time frames (1-5 mins), but he is constantly whining or barking as soon as he notices I’m not there. I live in a semidetached home so I’m worried about the neighbours. He only barks during day naps, not overnight.

So any idea what to do? He is so stubborn. I give him a yak chew or frozen kong while inside and he just still barks and whines his head off and gets frustrated. I even have one of those stuffed dogs that has a heart beat.

I’m constantly having to sit right next to the crate for him to stop crying and whining and sometimes that doesn’t always work.

When to take puppy out for walks?

He had two sets of vaccines done, he goes the end of the month for the final boosters.

Yesterday we brought him for a wellness check and got the Lepto and kennel cough vaccines done. Apparently my vet says he could go walking by Friday, but I’ve read that you should wait 2 weeks. This is my first time going to this vet, so I’m wondering if she is right.

He is an aussiedoodle and we got him 5 days ago.

Writing final term report cards…

Hey everyone,

I started an LTO back in February that is supposed to go until the last day of school in June. I’m just curious how report card comments go for grade 1/2?

I don’t think I have access to the previous report cards. This would be my second time writing them as I have written ELP ones last year and I’m a newer teacher. Would love some advice on what you can say especially since I don’t have the previous term report cards. Also, would I be able to access those working for the TCDSB? TIA!

Hi everyone! We just bought a house and this mark was left from the previous owners entry way rug :(

I have been using a cleaner on it, and now it looks a bit better compared to this photo. But what would you suggest putting under a rug so it doesn’t leave marks on the hardwood floor? Does a felt pad work? Some of those are anti slip, would that also cause the same issue?

I want an area rug as well and don’t want that happening either. Would love some recommendations.
