How do you think 'canon' works in Twisted Metal?

How do you think 'canon' works in Twisted Metal?

This is a topic I've been wondering about for awhile, especially whenever I see info or reviews about Twisted Metal 3 and 4 and how it usually leads to a statement of 'they were basically written off as non-canon due to their reception' with Head On basically being concidered the proper T.M3.

Now this isn't me being a stan and defending those two games but I do find it interesting on how we can decide on which games are canon or not when I feel due to their very nature there can't really be a true continuity between any of them. Which I'll explain in this post-

For example in the first game their are two contestants who have the most likely chance IMO to be the 'canon' winners. That's Yellowjacket/Charlie Kane and Outlaw/Carl Roberts. Now the formers an interesting case because he has two differing endings depending on the planned FMV version or the final game text scroll but I'll mainly focus on the original planned one for reasons that'll become apparent -

Mr Kane reveals he simply wanted to drive again like in his youth despite having to kill other contestants to do so and Calypso offers him an immortality potion 'to drive forever and collect next years contestants' upon taking it he turns into some kind of crazed undead.

And of course this lines up with how in Twisted Metal 2, the final boss Dark Tooth is driven by Charlie. They never say his name in game but its pretty clear its him with him ranting about 'his clown boy' and its established in TM1 that Needles/Sweet Tooth is his son. (Worthy to note in his text ending of TM1 he wants to know what happens to his son and upon learning truth thinks maybe he can enter next yeah and wish for his pain removed, which could still maybe lead into him becoming D.Ts driver later?)

But Carls also has a chance because his ending of getting tricked into going into space wanting a 'world free of the Twisted Metal contest" is followed up on in TM2 where his sister Jamie Roberts ending is her planning ahead and rescuing him from that. (and that ending is followed up on again in both '3 and Head On, and there's a bunch of other character endings that get follow ups as well-)

But of course these two can't co-exist, there has to be one winner, and this doesn't just effect them. How does any character return in another game if their killed during a prior one. Sweet Tooth's playable in every game for example, Charlie kills him in TM1 to be able to get his prize, is it possible some just simply escape from their vehicle before its destroyed. (Maybe Needles bangs his head and becomes the Marcus K personality to drive RoadKill for TM2 but they can never race at the same time 'n such, but I know that probably wasn't really established yet 'n that's a whole other can of worms) Does Calypso resurrect some prior contestants to keep the tournament fun?

This is probably a 'no duh who cares' moment for some, if I'm not mistaken I think Youtuber Tactical Bacon also did a vid on this topic. And its not like this series or fandom is adverse to reboots or fresh takes. I mean we can agree Black, Small Brawl and 2012 don't really fit neatly in with the rest, although there is a bunch call backs in the last one. And there's the whole 'Black' might be a alternate reality/dream of Sweet Tooth and I got some crack headcanons of my own related to that for anyone curious-

but 'any case I do think it can be an interesting discussion on just how loose these games handle continuity, I feel it opens up the possibility that there's some unseen events we're seeing

Like what if for example the way to make sense of this is the Twisted Metals were seeing aren't really the truth, like maybe there was a tournament that Charles competed in, won and now works for Calypso like in his ending, next year there's a contest that Carl wins and we get his ending, the nest is TM2 where Charles has been fully promoted to 'final boss'

In Head On Sweet Tooth implies during his ending he's won many TM tournaments in the past and clearly they haven't bitten him back to badly since he's well enough to continue. Anyway sorry if I'm over thinking I just find this fun

I feel I can't be the 1st to ask this but, what improvements could/should be made to the HS animated series if it gets a full release? Do you think pilot critiques will be listened to-

- I ask the latter bit especially given Viziepop Hellverse track record. I imagine stuff like pacing, voice direction and basically Dave in general are up there. (maybe those latter two go hand in hand)

BTW not to sound demanding but I hope we can get more something more interesting rolling then just a "HS adaptations is doomed to fail 'cause webcomic medium'. Just kinda ends discussions' all together

(also I was tired of the same Pilot poster being used so enjoy the collages hopefully)

I'm a fan of Superman Batman Public Enemies but does anyone else find it 'bit out of character that Starfire's part of the government stooges who trust President Luthor and try to take the heroes in?

Then again I hear for some reason comic Kori has some hatred for Kryptonians so maybe that factored into the original source material, I only really know the animated movie if someone can correct me

Still don't know why Billy/Captain Marvel would be on Lex's side tho

How long do you think the DCU needs to go on for before Snydercultists finally accept their 'verse is over?

The one thing Snyderbro's 'have on their' side as it were is and I say that loosely, is that the DCU has only just gotten started and is small. We have officially 3 projects out not counting pre canon limbo stuff like 'The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker S1 and Blue Beetle.' And their hoping if Supergirl flops, that's it. Man of Tomorrow and any other in development project is cancelled. Don't know if they think Lanterns and Clayface slated for this year will still arrive or not

Ignoring the fact that even if the DCU hypothetically ends early that still doesn't mean the DCEU will come back, or if it does they'd have to accept big casting changes with it. 'Cause being Batman made Ben Affleck an alcoholic so he's not interesting in returning, Ray Fisher burnt bridges, Gal Gadot and Ezra Miller are controversial figures (as is Jared Leto but...when's that stopped him unfortunately) so they've got only maybe Henry Cavil and Jason Momoa left who might be curious if not busy

But to go back to more positives if the DCU does continue what happens when we finally get a full Batman (with a hopefully more alive Batfamily this time might I ad) & Wonder Woman and complete the trinity. What if we finally get enough years and members down the line to make the Justice League

I've heard it been said that the 1st chapter or first two chapters of the DCU are a 10 year plan or so, do they think there's still a chance for Snyder after those ten? Not to sound ageist but Henry's gonna be 53 by then, Ben's gonna be 63 so in the unlikely event he returns guess they can adapt Dark Knight Returns...again. But other then that what's an acceptable time to age out of the roles for these people, so yeah something that's been on my mind for a lil' while now.

Just a reminder according to Death Battle circa 2015 this random robot is unlimited times stronger then Goku

'cause it can push Superman to use Superflare but Son G can't

The Secret of Chromastone rewrite idea attempt

Secret of Chromastone probably stands up there with some of the most disliked Ben 10 episodes, and while maybe not the worst and might have its fans, its the one I've been thinking the most on how it could be fixed because I wanna think its possible, or at least its got the most meat for me to work with. So without further ado-

Episode starts off similar enough Tetrax comes back to Earth to see Ben and demands Chromastone. Well maybe he'd do a more polite request this time but I don't think the detail matters to much I'm unsure if I'd still want the gimmick of Ben of being having a cold since they already did that in classic. Guess the big difference is voice actors now 'cause of Ben's age. If we do - do it I'd def wanna keep the 'Side Effect's thing for the aliens from that episode. Was kinda lazy they didn't really explore that with new aliens in this

We get a similar scenario of Tetrax finding out Ben no longer has Chromastone at the moment but has Diamondhead back with parts of Chroma merged into him. Instead of the insane moment of Tetrax shattering DH to release Chromastone and turn him into Sugilite. He would instead take a piece of the blue stone and use it to make a DNA tracker to find Sugilite who is missing in space. With Ben, Kevin and Gwen following

Another thing that would change somewhat is Vilgax's role in the story. I think it makes sense for him to be a villain in this story his history with Tetrax and his planet's destruction. But he wouldn't be randomly touching down on Earth to fight the gang and break his rules at the end of 'Vengeance of Vilgax' like he does in the episode. He'd bide his time and wait for the chance to strike when the heroes are off their home terf nearing their goal, every other of his AF appearances' have been on other planets away from Earth's rules and it'd serve as build up when its the series finale and at that point he's got an all or nothing plan with Albedo. Obviously a lot of people have their gripes with Alien Force's take on Vilgax so this rewrite might be an opportunity to give him his grove back so to speak with some of his classic series menace.

Eventually the gang would find 'the Guardian'. Not everyone was happy with their only being one Crystalsapien and him being like a Petrosapien Jesus. I don't mind it to much personally but prehaps as a compromise in this version 'MorOtesi' is a moon for Petropia which got thrown out of orbit after the planet's destruction, and that along with the thieving of the red crystal (which I admit I kinda forgot about until writing this) is why the small settlement of Crystal survivors didn't help for years. Nearing the end Tetrax and Vilgax would get into a fight like in the episode, though the former would put up more of an effort this time, but ultimately lose against Vilgax's stolen powers. I always head cannoned that Diamondhead was able to beat him in 'Vengeance' due to being mixed with Chromastone and getting some boost so this might be a way to go more into that. However Ben and Sugilite are able to revive the planet, and dunno how much budget factors in but hopefully this time the Petrosapiens that emerge don't all just look like AF Diamondhead clones, thus the race being doomed to extinction again via sterilization. And with that Vilgax tactfully retreats knowing an army of them is to much for even him alone. And Tetrax is able to reunite and try and make further amends with his revived people

And also maybe if Ben's still sick and infects him Vilgax is inspired to don the breathing mask again to prevent such things in future

So tell me what you think if any of this helps make the episode more tolerable, if you'd even want this to exist since I know some probably think it lessens Tetrax story if his race are just magically revived, or maybe it'd help if they were just relevant after?. But ey at least Canonbolts planets still gone.

if this goes well I might try my hand at other divisive episodes like Duped, Eye of the Beholder and Primus

Not sure if I'm cheating with this flair but I've been curious. Do you think there are any writers that could have improved the DCEU if paired with Zack as a director

Or was it just sorta a lost 'cause, or would he be to controlling?

I remember getting into a conversation with someone on reddit about that topic, and I'd ask them about this, but sadly there accounts been deleted for whatever reason. Along with the comments so I'm really going off memory here.

I thought of a take on Absolute Cassandra Cain, what if she was never brutally trained by her parents to be an assassin, over even being able to speak. So now this time she's actually a normal chatty teen with no real skil-oh wait...

Has Tekken 7 been rendered most pointless entry now plot wise?

Sorry if I waffle a bit btw) Now Tekken 7 was a bit of an infamous game when it came out from what I can tell, from people being disappointed with a number of the arcade ladder endings which honestly I could do a post on its on about ranking the worst to best of them, some of them including Eddy Gordo going from having a cool arc involving his grandfather and Kazuya to now being a joke in Lucky Clohe's ending and his own, similar case with characters like Jack and cliff-hanger from last game involving Armor King and Murdock being 'resolved' off screen and King's ending being an aftermath of that. Also the opening of Pandora's box by having Akuma from Street Fight being made canon to Tekken, and he's just not been active before or since this point

But the one big thing that 7 had going for it was the proclaiming that this would be the end of the Mishima feud.

And whether or not you like the Tekken stories I feel every prior entry added something or developed it in some way

1st games a revenge plot about Kazuya wanting to return the favour on his dad throwing him off a cliff,

2nd one is a role reversal where he's now become as corrupt in charge of the Mishima Zaibatsu and the whole Devil inside him thing where now Heihachi reclaims the throne and seemingly kills his son.

3 is a big time skip introducing the next gen of fighters (some become a bit more irrelevant then others sadly though...Forest Law... ) with son of Kazuya, Jin avenging his mother Jun by defeating Ogre only for Heichaci to betray him and get his devil gene activated.

4s the return of Kazuya so now we've got a three way Mishima/Kazama family war and 5 expands on the family with great/grandfather Jinpachi as unwilling final boss and Asuka Kazama, Jin's cousin. (though how she hasn't really lived up to her potential as that is another can of worms)

6 expands on the family more and flips the table by having the controversial move of Jin in now a villainous position by starting a war in a fool hardy attempt to draw out the devil gene source to rid it forever and is stopped by Lars, another son of Heihachi from a different mother.

then we circle back to 7, we get this emotions driven final fight, y'know this was it as promised, 'Heat Haze is playing and its a pop' and later in this just last punch of anger from what his dad did to him and his mother as we find out in this game, Kazuya kills Heichaci, he stops his heart and throws him into the lava

and I quite liked T8, it addressed criticism I had with 7 I liked that the underutilised side characters got to do more in this game and I like the system of getting to choose who to play in some the tournament matches that's something I wish MK implemented more over the character chapter stuff, like 11 attempted then just stopped after. Bit annoying that Jun didn't properly return like the trailers implied but oh well

But then the Unforgotten Echoes DLC comes out and...Heichi's revealed to be alive, some monks saved him from the volcano and he got amnesia but by the end he's got his memories back. And its just with that I gotta wonder what all the T7 hype was for then, the final battle of him vs his son was the big selling point but now what we're just back to status quo of them two and Jin just fighting each other again. I mean I thought Reina was supposed to be Heich's replacement.

I suppose 7 still has the Kazumi revelations but shame she wasn't as involved in that game as a I thought given the advertisement and I get the feeling there's still more to the devil gene inheritors 'cause Reina seems to have it despite being a child of Heichaci from a different mom like Lars, and he doesn't have it, unless Kazumi is her mum but she doesn't look Kazuya's age...

I'm probably the only one who really cares about this, I think people have given up on fighting game story modes and in the end gameplay is the most important thing but y'know not my fault they keep doing enticing things just to curtain pull

Some are maybe a given more then others given their import (Azmuth, Tetrax), but considering how the alien redesigns are a bit more creepy looking, reminiscent of some fan art takes I've seen I'd be nice to have a reminder that these aren't just spooky monsters that Ben can turn into. That they have different cultures and stuff and can be not to unlike from humans in terms of personalities. And I'd just be curious how some characters would look in the new styles
