New Nvidia driver update specifically mentions Sim Update 7 and DLSS 4.5 support

Was surprised to see FS2024 mentioned at all in an Nvidia update in 2026.

Spotted this unusual specimen at work

This creature appeared to be crawling on its back. It looks like it’s upside down, and its exposed underside appears translucent. It was moving when I took the photos. Never seen anything like it.

Photos taken in the Borough of the Bronx in New York City.

It seems the "even" Sim Updates are the ones for me

My specs:

9850X3D

4090

64GB RAM

Using a non-gaming Samsung TV outputting at 4K, 60hz

Some very minor under-volting to the CPU and default Nvidia-guided overclocking to the GPU via the Nvidia App.

Gig Internet

**all graphics settings maxed out completely**

Using DLSS with DLAA and frame gen.

FS2024 has always been stable for the most part, and with the exception of some of the crazier airports like KJFK, I can usually get 60fps, or close to it. But FS2024 *has* been temperamental in the past, and I was never sure if it was sometimes the result of a random Nvidia driver update that threw a wrench in things, or a Windows update, or just an update on Asobo's side. Eventually, things always get back to normal.

But Sim Update 5 was...rough for me. Using IniBuild's KJFK as an example, in the past, I could average maybe 25 to 35 fps on a good day. Tough place to go for 60fps. But after Sim Update 5, *and* after my friend helped me speed up my PC a bit, I was suddenly having issues. Loading into KJFK was next to impossible. After a few minutes of letting things load in, I would be lucky to get 20fps, but attempting to move the camera at all would cause the sim to spazz out and I'd be stuck at 5fps for a minute or so. Weirdly, even after taking off from KJFK and reaching cruise altitude of 36,000 feet over middle America, my frames would be stuck in the 30s or 40s, despite always getting 60fps in the upper air like that. It was almost like starting in New York caused a chain reaction that caused FS2024 to operate inefficiently not achieve its true potential.

Sim Update 6 has been a miracle so far for me. I left the frame rate info on some of the screenshots I've attached. If I load into New York City, if I just give it a few minutes to load in my surroundings, I can achieve and basically hold 60fps. To *really* test it, I loaded into KJFK in the new 707, *and* I activated max traffic using BeyondATC. It started off a bit rough with frames between 25 and 40, and severe slowdown when trying to move the camera. But before too long, I was actually steady at 60fps. AT KENNEDY AIRPORT. I was taxiing from Terminal 5 to Runway 31L and couldn't believe how smooth it was. Now, maybe this was because it was 12:30 AM and there's less real-time traffic at that time of the night. Maybe it'll be a bit harder if I try the same at 4:00 PM with a ton of NPC aircraft taxiing around and taking off. I'll have to see. But frankly, achieving this at KJFK at *any* time of day is remarkable.

I do believe Sim Update 6 is "the one". Now I hope an eventual Sim Update 7 doesn't break me. XD

Navigation is working again thanks to latest update

Link to my previous post is attached.

After speaking with Genesis Customer Care a few times, they called me yesterday to inform me that a brand new navigation update was just released this week. I downloaded it from the website onto a USB stick and installed it this evening. Voila! Everything is working as designed now.

Apparently, the latest navigation update turns it into a live-updating map à la Apple Maps and Google Maps, where the car pulls live road and POI updates from a server each time you start your car, negating the need for the bulk navigation system updates every six months or so. That’s kinda neat. (I still primarily use Apple CarPlay.)

Whopper

My once a year visitor. Found this one (and killed it) in the kitchen sink. I’m pretty sure it’s American, but my wife is freaking out and I want to make sure.

I call it a once a year visitor because one of these giant whopper roaches finds its way into my apartment once a year on average. Once a year is enough.

Received OTA update — now navigation is bricked

2025 GV80. Car was downloading an over the air update while I was driving to work last night. It was apparently navigation-related. When I parked at work and turned the car off, I got the message saying the update was ready to install, so I began the installation. I exited the car and locked it.

A few hours later, I went into the car to drive to lunch. When I turned it on, I got messages on the car and on my phone that the navigation update was complete. But on the Home Screen, the map wasn’t loading. It said “Preparing map, please wait”.

I gave it a few minutes and nothing happened. Map wouldn’t load. I did a cold reboot of the infotainment system. The problem didn’t resolve itself.

The entire navigation system appears to be bricked now. Can’t access the map. Can’t even access the navigation settings from the settings menu. The dashboard is glitchy since it can’t show map info like it normally does.

Apple CarPlay works…for the most part. But the “second stream” that sends map data to the dashboard apparently glitched out while driving, because the dashboard turned black and was showing only car-related driving data, nothing map-related.

Anybody else having issues with any recent OTA updates?

New York City is now receiving emergency vehicle alerts

It was perfectly accurate. There was an ambulance with emergency lights activated at the side of the road there.

Catalytic converter thieves again

Early on Monday morning, around 3:25-3:30 AM, a pair of thieves very loudly stole someone’s catalytic converter from a vehicle parked near 137th Street & 31st Road. The police were called by a witness who lives nearby and the police arrived within minutes, but the thieves had already driven off.

The thieves were driving a very shiny blue SUV with their headlights off. Described only as two men, possibly overdressed for the weather.

Watch yourselves out there.

Upgrade CPU or “downgrade” monitor? Or both?

Just under two years ago, I built a new PC just for FS2024. It has a 7800X3D, a 4090, and 64GB of RAM. My “monitor” is just a repurposed Samsung 4K TV at 60hz, not a gaming monitor or anything. I always intended to eventually get a widescreen or ultra wide monitor, but I never did.

When I’m playing FS2024, I use DLSS with DLAA and frame gen turned on. With the exception of occasional hiccups due to bad Nvidia driver updates or Windows oddness, I usually get about 60 fps with all graphics maxed out completely in 4K. I’m usually pretty happy.

That being said, I feel like I’m really close to simming perfection. And I don’t want to lower any of the graphics settings. Since most ultra widescreen gaming monitors are 1440p, I figured getting a new monitor and “downgrading” myself from 4K to 1440p would take enough stress off my existing system to get me that perfectly smooth 60 fps.

My friend came to me with a proposition. He’s looking to upgrade his PC and he wants my 7800X3D. He’s looking to purchase a bundle from MicroCenter that includes a 9850X3D. We would work out a price, and he would give me the 9850X3D while he keeps the other components from the bundle that I don’t need. And he gets my 7800X3D.

Obviously, the 9850X3D is a faster chip, and it might theoretically give me the extra juice I need to maintain smoother frames while still using my 4K monitor.

What would you do in this scenario? Do you think moving up to the 9850X3D would be worth it?

Side note: I do play other games also on PC besides FS2024.
