2018 Ninja 400 – Instant/average fuel economy and range not working. Anyone had this issue?

Hi everyone, I’m having a strange issue with my 2018 Ninja 400.

The dash works normally for everything else, including:
Speed
ODO
Trip A/B
Fuel gauge
Gear indicator
ECO light

But these three functions don’t work:

Instant fuel economy: ---
Average fuel economy: ---
Range: 0 while riding and --- when stopped

I’ve already replaced the battery, added fresh fuel, ridden enough distance, and removed the instrument cluster connector. I checked the connector and pins, couldn’t see any corrosion or damage, cleaned it with electrical contact cleaner, and reconnected it properly.

Still no change.

My next step is to check the ECU-to-meter wiring with a multimeter, or possibly test another instrument cluster.

Has anyone had this exact issue before? What ended up being the cause?

2018 Ninja 400 – Instant/average fuel economy and range not working. Anyone had this issue?

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a 2018 Kawasaki Ninja 400 with around 8,000 km on it. The bike had been sitting for about a year before I bought it.

Everything on the dash seems to work normally:
**Speedometer works**
**ODO works**
**Trip A/B works**
**Gear indicator works**
**Fuel gauge works normally**
**Clock works and doesn’t reset**
**ECO indicator comes on while riding**
**Check engine light turns off normally after starting**

However, these three functions don’t work:
**Instant fuel economy: ---**
**Average fuel economy: ---**
**Range: shows 0 while riding and --- when stopped**

I’ve ridden the bike more than enough for the readings to calculate, but they never appear.
I have also replaced the old original battery with a new battery, but it made no difference.

Has anyone had the same problem on a Ninja 400?

Could this be an instrument cluster/meter issue, ECU-to-meter communication issue, or a bad connector/wire?

I’m thinking about removing the fairings and checking the meter connector and wiring next, but I’d like to know if there is anything specific I should check before pulling things apart.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Weird noise come from the fuel tank

Hi everyone,

So I was trying installation a helmet lock on my bike. And all the sudden I hear these kind of noise coming out from my fuel tank. Any idea what’s going on? It that normal or is it something I should be worried about.

Thanks everyone

they just never appear. No matter how far I drive I’ve driven more than 20KM per trip now. Never show
I have also replaced the old original battery with a new battery, but it made no difference.

Is it safe to put an inner tube inside a Michelin Road 6 (tubeless tire) after a failed plug repair?

Hey everyone, looking for some advice here.

A while back, my MT-03's rear tire got punctured. I called roadside assistance (NRMA), and the guy plugged it with a sticky string/bacon strip on the spot.

Today, I took the bike to a shop wanting to get a more permanent mushroom plug installed. However, after three attempts, the mechanic told me it failed because the roadside guy had bored the hole out way too big. His solution was to insert an inner tube inside my tire, and he mentioned he left the mushroom plug in there too.

When I asked him about safety—especially if wet-weather grip would be compromised—he said, "No problem at all. The only downside is that if you get a flat again, you won't be able to just use a sticky string plug on the side of the road anymore."

What I want to ask is: Is putting an inner tube inside a high-performance tubeless tire like the Michelin Road 6 a normal or acceptable repair method? What kind of impact or risks does this actually have? I’m worried I might have been given bad advice since I don't know much about tire mechanics. 😭😭😭

(Pics 1 & 2 are after the roadside string plug; Pic 3 is the inner tube he put in).
