Stopped and searched by police. Is this common?

I'm just at the Mother of Georgia. Police pulled up real quick and asked for my name and passport. Before I could show my passport, the cop wants to search my backpack. He says, "You have a knife?"

I'm like, "No".

He searches and finds nothing of interest.

I say, "I'll get my passport for you".

He's like, "No. Goodbye!"

I'm a 57 year old Australian. I totally look like a tourist.

Is this common?

Trying to make the game more challenging.

So, I don't carry binoculars/rangefinders any more. I turned off the particle effects on trails and the animal outlines.

I'm not good enough to turn off the track highlighting completely yet.

Is anyone playing with no assists at all? What's your experience?

For anyone who has visited a country and driven on the "other" side of the road. How long did it take you to mentally adjust so that it felt natural?

Coming from Australia (we drive on the left, I've only ever driven in other countries that also drive on the left. I've been driving for a long time (almost 40 years), but this could go against me.

How long did it take for your brain to swtich on so that it just felt natural to be driving on the left/right side of the street?

Did you have any slip-ups?

I'm heading to Georgia in October and will be hiring a car to drive from Tbilisi > Kazbegi > Kutaisi > Batumi. Then flying to Ljubljana in Slovenia to chill.

I haven't played Elite Dangerous in such a long time...

... but I recently purchased a Panther Clipper Stellar, a Caspian Explorer Galactic, and a Nomad (standard).

I don't know where they are in the galaxy map, but when I start playing again I'll go and find them.

Decided to take the dog for a walk after a long hiatus. Turns out, he's a really good listener.

TL/DR;

  • Decided to start using the hunting dogs again. Really enjoying it.
  • I'm using VoiceAttack to issue verbal commands for the dog actions.
  • I'll post a video of how this works for people who are unfamiliar.
  • Happy to share my VoiceAttack profile if people want.
  • Anyone else using VoiceAttack in this game? Can you share any tips/tricks?
  • Using the dog in this way has given the game a new lease on life for me, I'm really enjoying it again.

I got ticked off or frustrated with the hunting dogs a long time ago and decided to give up on it.

For reasons I can't explain, I recently had the notion to revisit this game mechanic, so I opened up the kennel and found my three, poor, emaciated dogs in there with all those neglected NeoPets from days gone by.

My bloodhound had some milage on him, so I started levelling him.

I'm using VoiceAttack (I'm on PC) and for me it seems intuitive to just talk to the dog - I'm wearing a gaming headset for the spacial audio anyway. I purchased a license for VoiceAttack a lifetime ago for use with Elite Dangerous (and other flight sims).

I'll tell him to sit, track lay down, "good boy", "well done"... all those things. So, it didn't take long to fully max his tracking and I'm now at Level 12 in retrieving.

It's kinda fun now. I'm not sure if the game itself has changed or if it's a "me" thing. Getting the dog to find all those hard to find harvests is really cool now.

For context, I turned off the particle effect for all trails and I don't use the animal highlighting feature. So, I can only shoot targets I can visually see (unobscured) and I have to find the actual prints on the ground to track.

For anyone who hasn't used it, VoiceAttack has a free option where you can have 20 commands.

I'm at work at the moment. When I get back home in a few weeks, I'll upload a video of my voice commands and I'll share my VoiceAttack profile, which can be modified to suit.

Rather than using the wheel, I essentially enter all the phrases that I would possibly use and if I find myself saying something that isn't recognised, then I'll just add that to the list. For example, I'll say "fetch" most of the time when retrieving, but if I find myself getting into the mood to say "go get it", and it's not recognised, then it gets added to the lexicon.

I also use voice attack for things like Start/Stop Recording in OBS or to turn on the headlamp when hunting at night. Any keybind can be assigned to your voice.

Does anyone else use VoiceAttack in this game? Do you have any tips/tricks you can share with me?

Edit: spelling

Gear Check - A draft of my gear-list for the WHW in May 2027

I've only inlcuded a couple of meals here just to bookmark my food category - but as a starting point, is there anything that's a glaring omission for an 8 -9 day WHW trip?

My Gear-List

I had planned to fit everything into my Osprey Farpoint 40L pack, but I don't think it's going to work - I'm at work at the moment, but I'll give it a go when I fly home next week. So, I'm sticking with my 65L pack instead.

Do I need to carry 1.5 litres of water? In Australia we get pretty focussed on hydration.

Thanks in advance.

I've been invoiced for the installation of 12 panels, an inverter and two 5kwh batteries with plans to install in less than a week.

My roof is an odd-shape, so I was surprised that they could fit 12 panels on.

The technician goes to my house today to check out the meter-box and roof status, then the sales guy calls me and says, "Really sorry, but we can only fit four panels on. You can still charge your batteries from the grid if you like. Do you want to go ahead with the installation?"

I'm like, "Yeah... nah. You've taken months to discover this? Let's just cancel and send back my depost, thanks."

All they had to do was check Google Maps, like every other company.

I'm resigning myself to the fact that I can't install solar at my house without re-roofing the damn thing.

To be fair, the work hasn't started - no harm, no foul However, I've been back and forth with this company for months preparing for this and it feels late in the game to find this out.

What do people with weirdo roofs do?

I never thought I would enjoy career mode as much as I do (unpopular opinion, I know). It's improving to a point that it's quite playable at times.

Does anyone have any gossip or inside knowledge on when third-party aircraft will be useable in career mode?

Despite having access to the whole world to travel, who else finds themselves exploring their home city?
