Using Film Lights for a Small Theatre Play — Bad Idea?

Probably a silly question, but I’m supposed to run lights for a small play happening in a church basement. The space has no actual stage lighting, so I’m trying to come up with a cheap, simple, and practical way to light the actors and stage area.

I have access to lighting equipment from my film school’s equipment depot, but it’s all gear intended for filmmaking/on-set use rather than theatre.

Do you think using a couple of Arri 650W Fresnels , or F.E Lighting 500W Fresnel would be enough for something like this? Or am I way off and should be looking at stronger lights or a different setup entirely?

Cover Letter or Directors Statement?

I've seen a lot of posts here asking about the importance of cover letters when submitting to festivals. And it seems like, responses are divided 50 50 on this.

I know they're not really the same, but if you have the option on Filmfreeway to to tailor your bio and statement in each project, then why submitting a cover letter?

Shouldnt the director's statement speak about the reasons why you made the film and why you believe it is important to tell the story*,* connecting it to your background and practice?

Im just wondering if in this case less is more or a cover letter would add anything valuable.

Student Short Film - Is it worth submitting to TIFF?

I've been debating submitting the short film i made this year to TIFF. And finally the deadline to submit is today.

My film is particular in a sense that it's very much a slow cinema with a subtle political angle.

Do you think it's worth it to submit my "Canadian Produced" student short film last minute and pay the fee or is it a lost cause?

I was considering submitting it to the Canadian Shorts category

I just realized Vimeo changed their privacy settings this year. The free plan no longer allows password protection or unlisted links.

YouTube isn’t ideal either. The compression isn’t great, and there’s no real password protection for private links.

So what are people using as a professional, secure alternative for festival submissions, FilmFreeway, etc.?

Unlisted links, Google Drive, or even Frame.io don’t feel secure enough since anyone with the link can access the file. What’s the current standard?
