How to track the data

Question, I am trying to figure out what is appropriate awake time for my 15 month old. Over the data I have collected it seems 10.75 hours awake is his optimal awake time over a 24 hour period.

Lately he has been stirring at around 5:00 ish. Sometimes his eyes are closed but he on and off cries and lots of rolling around. Sometimes his eyes are open but he’s lying calmly. Do I count this as awake time towards his 10.75 hours awake? I don’t get him physically out of bed until 6 or later if he sleeps. He is neither awake nor asleep lol. I’m not sure if I should count it as awake time.

Size?

I’m trying to plan out a transition to a floor bed for my 15 month old. His room is not the biggest and a twin mattress would fit perfectly where his crib currently is. Although he would be fine with a twin, the whole reason I want to get him into a floor bed is because I want to be able to crawl into bed with him on those rougher nights. I feel like a twin is going to be too small and cramped for the two of us, but his room won’t accommodate a full or bigger.

Any experience or advice about this? There’s a possibility of us moving him to a different room that would accommodate a full but that would be a ton of work so just trying to weigh options.

2-1 nap transition struggle

I’ve been trying to get my 15 month old onto a 1 nap schedule.

On our two nap schedule he was taking forever to go to sleep at bedtime and waking up very early. He wasn’t fighting naps but we were running out of time in the day to have solid naps.

The transition to a 1 nap schedule has not been going well. We are getting night wakes and still early rises. He’s exhausted. I havnt been able to full convert him to 1 nap because he literally falls asleep on the floor or me. I’ve been doing a short bridge nap in the morning and then his long nap in the afternoon. As of now he’s looking like 2.5/2.5/5.5 with a 15 minute nap in the morning and then 2+ hours in the afternoon. He spends his first wake window laying on the floor, doesn’t want to engage in things or crying. He’s obviously tired. He falls asleep sometimes on the floor. I can’t go back to two naps because the nights were just as crap but fully converting to 1 nap I feel like is not achievable.

He has sleep debt but I don’t know how to clear it when he doesn’t sleep at night. He is fully sleep trained and we have done all the things to ensure environment is optimal for sleep.

Am I crazy

My husband and i have had a tough week of arguing. It’s the same argument we’ve had over and over. He feels under appreciated and I feel misunderstood.

For context my husband works 10-12 hour days and also does a lot of the household chores like cleaning, vacuuming, some cooking, bathrooms, and all the outside maintenance.

During our argument this time he said my only responsibility is to take care of our 15 month old. He said he doesn’t ask me to do any chores, all he wants is for me to take full responsibility of our child. I was not happy about this comment because in taking care of our child I also have to clean up and take care of the house. I had said to him that taking care of a child also means taking care of the house. I am cleaning up after myself and my son, plus I also am responsible for all the grocery shopping and meal planning. I had broken down all the responsibilities of taking care of a child. Remembering their sleep schedule, researching everything about sleep if they aren’t sleeping well, knowing what foods they currently like, planning meals and cooking them, monitoring iron intake, planning activities, monitoring awake time, etc.

he then responded with how he is responsible for the house and asked if I ever think about checking the basement to see if any flooding has happened after a rain fall, or if the doorbell cameras need to be charged, or if the dishwasher trap needs to be emptied.

I felt like the comparison was not equal but we continued with the convo.

I’m just wondering like am I crazy for wanting to share the responsibility of having a child????

He said I’m home with him all day and so I should be the one to know all these things about our son and because he isn’t home he doesn’t need to know what I’m serving him for food and his nap schedule. When he comes home from work he will play with my son and sometimes gives him a bath but the actual responsibility of raising him seems to fall on my shoulders currently.

Has anyone tried?

Has anyone tried a floor bed situation like this where they use these bed rails on a regular box spring? I was looking for a floor bed with high rails because I’m worried my 15 month old is going to just be crawling around his room the whole night. I want a floor bed so that I can lay in it with him to make nights go better but I can’t find any options that are available to me. Just wondering if I could construct a safe sleep space using this with some sort of bed frame and a mattress?

So depleted from trying to fix EMW

I’m sooooo tired of this, idk where to go from here I feel like everything I do makes things worse and at this point I don’t even know what schedule to try and what is good for my 15 month old.

We have had EMW’s forever. As of lately, I experimented with two schedules. Both are two nap schedules but the second one was in preparation for a 1 nap schedule. I tried both schedules out for 3+ days in a row to see if consistency was the culprit.

Schedule 1: 3/3.5/4.5 with 2.5 hours of day sleep, wake was anytime before 6 but I don’t get him up until 6 at least, everything else is treated like a night wake. Bedtime is 7:30. This schedule had two very balanced naps a day at around 1h15m each.

Schedule 2: 3/3.5/5 with 2-2.5 hours of day sleep. The first nap was a “bridge nap” of 15-30 minutes depending on the day and a 2 hour nap in the afternoon. Bedtime was again 7:30 but this schedule we have done now for 4 days. We are now not only getting EMW’s but also middle of the night crying and just a lot of whining throughout the night.

My child is exhausted, he seems to handle the 5 hour wake window fine, he doesn’t fight any sleep, he puts himself to bed very well but cannot for the life of him stay sleeping after 5/5:30. When I get him up for the day we’ve got about an hour before he starts showing he’s tired. Today, same thing, had a horrible sleep, waking up in the night and crying, woke up at 5:20 and just rolled around whining until 6. It’s now 7:45 and he’s already asleep for a nap….. I just feel like all the schedules I have tried nothing is fixing the problem.

In a perfect world he would sleep until at least 6, honestly even 5:45 is fine, but he would have energy for his first wake window. I call it potato mode. He enters potato mode 2 ish hours into his first wake window where he’s constantly lying on the floor, fussy, cuddling into me, not wanting to do anything. All other wake windows seem fine. Idk what to do

A 1 nap schedule feels impossible

I have a 14.5 month old and we have been on a two nap schedule since around 8 months. I’m still following wake windows instead of a set schedule and our schedule looks like roughly 3/3.5/4.5

He gets about 2.5 hours of nap a day and has lately only been sleep about 9.5 hours overnight. He used to sleep closer to 11. We have had early morning wakes since he was like 4 months old. For about two weeks (13 months old) we had squashed the early rises but then they came back. Here is what I have tried so far:

Environment:
- we have black out blinds and curtains + I cover anything that gives off light such as our noise machine etc.
- we have a noise machine that goes all night long
- I have two thermometers in his room positioned in different places and I dress him appropriately based on temperature

Schedule:
- I have literally tried everything except a 1 nap schedule
- more nap sometimes helps but also sometimes hurts
- less day sleep usually doesn’t help
- one thing that is for certain is he is exhausted in the morning wake window and we sometimes can only do 2.5 hour wake windows
- his early morning sleep is the worst, and chat gpt says it’s fragile and fractured which is most likely causing the exhaustion in the morning but we cannot figure out WHY his early morning sleep is so fractured

Other info:
- he puts himself to sleep completely independently and I leave him in his crib until at least 6 am. Often he will moan and cry on and off from 5 until the 6 am retrieval
- there are times I will go in to soothe him and he will fall asleep on me but there are also times I go in to soothe and nothing I do can help him go back to sleep
- he acts very sleepy in the morning, often laying on the floor sucking his thumb or even falling asleep in our play room
- when I put him down for the first nap it usually takes him 5 minutes or less to fall asleep
- he isn’t fighting the second nap even if he’s had a 2 hour + nap in the morning

I’m struggling

Vent

I am feeling very low today and just overwhelmed with everything. I feel like I’m just spiraling in a pit of self pity.

I’m 14 months post partum and I just feel disgusting. My hair is falling out in clumps and I’m overweight. I didn’t lose all of the baby weight but I have absolutely no motivation to workout. I’m so tired from perpetually waking up at 4/5 am and can’t go to bed early for fear that I don’t get to do anything I want to do for the day.

None of my clothes fit, I have the weirdest body shape and even if I did want to buy new clothes we do not have money because everything is so fucking expensive and I’m still on leave from my job.

To top it all off my 14 month old has some really nasty habits that are stressing me out. He eats hair and is always on the look for hair. He pulls his own hair out, pulls my hair out, pulls our dogs hair out. Searches the floor for hair and puts it all in his mouth. He also scratches his body to the point of bleeding. His poor bum cheeks are just always scratched and raw from itching. I put cream on him everyday and have even seen his doctor for this. I’ve used cortisone cream and nothing stops him from itching. I keep his nails as short as I can but it’s never the fix.

Sorry for the rant I’m just feeling so overwhelmed and all of these little things are piling up so much.

Tips to start

Wanting to start potty training my 14 month old. Wondering about a few things!

  1. Training underwear vs naked approach
    - I’ve seen a ton of ads for upairy training underwear that supposedly teach your child the feeling of being wet when they pee but it doesn’t go all over the floor. If you have used these did they work for you? Our house has tons of carpet and I’m worried about cleaning pee and potentially poo up if we do the naked route

  2. What do you have in the bathroom with you to make things easier? My son is interested in sitting on the potty for about 2 seconds and then wants to stand up again lol.

  3. Clean up after a potty. This is the part I am the most confused about. What have you done to make the cleanup easier? How do I wipe his bum?? Do you have a change pad in the bathroom with you to wipe after or how do you get their bum clean?

Thanks for all the tips if you share :)

Conflicted about sleep

For context, my son is 13 months old and is a decent sleeper. I understand other people have things waaaaaay worse im just feeling conflicted.

So my son for the last 6+ months has been early rising. I’m not talking a party at 5 am, it’s more of a moan and groan at 5 am. Almost like he desperately wants to go back to sleep but can’t. He also tends to poop in his diaper early so that could be part of the problem but I digress. We don’t start the day until at least 6, if not later (depending on how he is acting). He then is somewhat good but starts to get cranky and sleepy around 7:45/8:00am. I’m talking trying to fall asleep on the floor tired. If I put him down for a nap at 8:00 I am successful some of the time. ALL the advice I get is to extend wake windows or cut naps shorter because of early rise. This hasn’t worked.

TODAY: I decided what the hey let’s just let him sleep. He has been napping for a total of 2 hours and 20 minutes so far. Will this ruin his night sleep? Maybe? But it seems clear to me he’s overtired right?! An undertired baby would not sleep for 2.5 hours for a nap? Right?!?

No he’s not sick, I don’t see teeth coming in. I genuinely think he’s super tired. Anyways I’m not sure how this will play out the rest of the day and I can update tonight but ya. My gut is telling me he’s so exhausted he needs more sleep so hopefully this works?!

What is your 12 month schedule

I feel like my schedule is just not working for us. We try to follow 3/3.5/4 but I don’t think it’s working for him. I feel like we should be at a point where he can handle longer wake windows but his first wake window he is DONE after 2 hours of being awake. Second wake window he seems like he’s good to go and then last wake window is hit or miss. Some days he’s so cranky it takes him an hour to just get the crabbiness out of him.

What is your 12 month old schedule? My guy sleeps through the night and doesn’t fight naps. I cap both naps and he sleeps about 2-2.5 hours a day. I find he wakes later in the morning if I do 2 hours of nap a day but he cannot tolerate the wake windows if I do that. Idk what to do.

So upset

So my 12 month old, who was sleeping through the night since 8 months and putting himself down for sleep independently, has now completely stopped. We sleep trained him gently at 7 months and it was hard but I felt it was the right step for our family.

A week ago he got sick for the first time. Throwing up, fever, congestion etc. our sleep went out the window and I did a lot of contact and co sleeping. It’s been about a week of this and his sleep is horrible. I thought he would kind of just go back to sleeping normal once he started to feel better but he now fights sleep in the crib and refuses to lay down. I’m worried I have to sleep train him again and my precious gentle method won’t work at this age. I really don’t want to just let him cry for extended periods. I can only really handle like 60 seconds of crying.

Our schedule is also all over the place since he got sick. I’m still trying to follow wake windows. We do like 3/3.5/4 mostly and he has around 2.5 hours of sleep a day maybe a little more lately since he’s been sick and I’ve been trying to let him rest.

What sleep training methods would be recommended at 12 months old? Is it really only CIO or Ferber

Vomit at night

My 12 month old has had a rough day today. When we put him to bed tonight he was not going down easily and was restless for hours afterwards. Crying out multiple times and whining. This is unusual for him but I figured it was probably from the poor naps and such today. Well anyway he vomited (not from crying) so im guessing he’s sick. I’m wondering how are we going to sleep tonight? I don’t want to put him back in the crib incase he vomits again and chokes on it or sleeps in vomit. He’s currently laying on me in our nursing chair but I can’t spend the entire night like this.

Help!!

I have no idea what to tag this as but I’m feeling frustrated and need to rant.

I have a 12 month old and he is very clingy and has a preference for me (mom). He is slow to warm to others and takes a bit of calm interaction before he starts to smile or loosen up. Family and friends love to make comments about this. “Wow he’s really attached to his mom” or “daycare is going to be so hard for him in the fall”. These comments are starting to get to me and make me question how I’ve parented so far.

My husband and I moved away from where we grew up to find better opportunities for work and more affordable housing. This has caused us to move away from his family and our friends. We now live closer to my family and we have a few friends but no one that we are super close with. I take my baby out all the time and we sometimes interact with kids similar ages. He seems my family a couple times a month, but he is always the same with people, slow to warm. I know this is just his temperament and I am totally fine with this. What is getting to me is, I’m not trying to raise him to be glued to my hip. I want to be able to leave him with people without him freaking out but it just isn’t happening and I don’t think I should be pushing it. Family and friends are putting pressure on me to leave him with them but I don’t think he’s ready for that nor am I. Am I doing him a disservice by letting him take the lead? If he’s uncomfortable I usually step in or I can tell he’s getting overwhelmed I will hold onto him. Is this wrong? Why do so many people have a problem with him being attached to me? I thought that’s what we wanted.

My 12 month old is soooooooooo tired in the mornings. He’s an early riser (5-5:30am) but we don’t start the day until at least 6. This has been going on for months. When we get up he’s usually ok for about an hour and then it turns into a lot of whining, snuggling in, sucking his thumb, laying down and being fussy because he doesn’t get to sleep.

At first I thought teething and growth spurt for the sleepiness but it’s been going on since December. We can’t make it to a decent nap time in the morning and our schedule just keeps shifting earlier and earlier.

It could be possible sleep debt but I can’t figure out how to catch up. His naps are hit or miss and his night sleep is pretty much 10.5 hours.

At this point I’m worried it’s a vitamin deficiency. We are going to the doctor on Monday so I will bring it up then. It’s currently 7:10 am and we’re sitting in a dark room because he was fussy and crying/cuddling into me and sucking this thumb which are usually his cues he’s tired.

We also don’t experience it this bad in the afternoons or evenings but sometimes it comes up towards the end of his wake window
