Artipoppe - worth it?

To preface, I cannot afford an Artipoppe carrier, so this is more out of curiosity because they are all over my social media. I see so many influencers and commenters talking about how the Artipoppe carriers are the best, but I know that brands often pay these influencers and commenters to say these things. I want to hear from real people who have actually tried the carrier - is it worth all the hype??

Owlet False Alarms

My baby is 3 weeks and I’m so over the Owlet. Literally every. Single. Night. the alarm goes off saying the sock is out of position on her foot. It scares the shit out of us. Anyone else have this issue? How’d you fix it? Just considering giving up at this point.

Will I ever smell good again???

Okay, does the postpartum/breastfeeding BO ever go away??? I’m a FTM and 3 weeks PP and my god I STINK!!! I shower and an hour later the BO is back. I know it’s part of the hormones and normal but will it ever go back to pre-postpartum normal BO or is this just my forever signature scent???

Do babies sleep better beside dad?

Has anyone tested the “babies sleep better if bassinet is on dad’s side” thing? I know some research suggests they wake easier if the bassinet is beside mom because they can smell milk. Curious if anyone here has put this to the test.

Lark vs. Meh Dai

Hi everyone! I have the Sprout carrier from H&P and loveeee it. I want to get a carrier for when my baby grows out of the sprout. Anyone try both the Meh Dai and the Lark? Not sure which one to get and could use some insight! Thanks!

Feel like a terrible parent

My LO is 3 weeks old tomorrow so she has obviously been waking up constantly throughout the night. Last night, I did the lying down breastfeeding position around 1 AM and accidentally fell asleep. I woke up at 5:30 AM in the same position, my LO beside me fast asleep. I feel guilty for co-sleeping, but I feel guiltier for how good it felt. I feel like a terrible parent for feeling that way. I woke up well-rested, it was a dream to see my LO tucked beside me when I awoke, and hate that I want to do it again. I’ve always preached safe sleep. I just had to vent and get this off my chest.

Postpartum Therapy

Hi! I’m a mental health therapist and after having my daughter I decided to get trained in postpartum therapy. It’s such an underserved need and SO important (as we’re seeing in the news right now …). Too many women experience PPA/PPD/PPOCD/PPP without any support (or shitty support, again as we’re seeing in the news).

In addition to the training, I’m also trying to ask real people who went through postpartum what would be helpful to them in therapy. So:

  1. if you received postpartum therapy, what was/was not helpful?

  2. if you were going to access postpartum therapy, what would you look for in a provider?

  3. if you wanted to receive postpartum therapy but didn’t, why not? What were the reservations or barriers in place that stopped you?

  4. anything else you think would be helpful for me to take into my practice in order to provide the best possible support?

Eye color

When did you START to notice eye color coming in? I know they can change for a long time - up until ~2 years old, but I’m curious when you started to see the beginnings of color rather than the newborn gray.

Time limit for baby wearing?

I saw a video of someone saying that baby carriers are considered “containers” and that an infant shouldn’t spent more than 45 mins at a time in a container. Is that true??? My daughter is 3 weeks old and baby wearing is the only way I can get things done. I have her in a solly wrap for 1.5 hours at a time …

Post birth cramping

Hi everyone! So I’m actually 12 days postpartum, but I wanted to make this post because I wish I had known this going into birth (FYI - I had a vaginal delivery and immediately breastfed so I am speaking from that perspective/experience). After you give birth, your uterus immediately starts shrinking back to normal size. This involves cramping that’s similar to a bad period. Breastfeeding releases hormone that aids in this process, so each time you feed your baby, your uterus starts cramping and you feel nauseous. It’s awful. I recommend a heating pad and just mentally prepping yourself lol. It lasts about 2-3 days. Like I said, no one ever told me about this part of recovery and I really wish I had known because it was not fun.

Vulnerable PP Blues

Hi all! I’m a FTM, and I’m struggling at 6 days PP. I had OCD going into pregnancy, and it’s followed me out. My obsessions are, “Will I regret having this baby?” “What if I’m an unhappy mother?” “Did I just ruin my life?” Also, I’m TERRIFIED of losing my partner. I’ve heard of people being scared of something happening to the baby, but I’m so worried something will happen to my husband (he will die, he will leave me, etc). He is the best partner and has sat and listened and reassured, cooked all the meals, made sure I get outside and take a shower. He’s been my rock. But would love to hear to reassurance or some similar experiences. I’m scared and vulnerable right now.

Maternity Leave

I am taking maternity leave at some point this year and am trying to navigate a potentially sticky situation. I have some higher-needs clients that I’m not opposed to continuing to see once a week at some point during my leave, before I fully open up my books again. It would also be a benefit to me since therapists are 1099 and don’t get pay during leave (American, am I right?). My partner and I have saved up enough to cover it all, but some extra income on leave wouldn’t be the worst. I’m just worried this could cross a boundary into these clients feeling that I think they’re “special.” I don’t know if I’m readying too much into it, or if this could become an issue.

Morbid Client

From a morbid fascination perspective, who would be your dream therapy client? For example, I’m a Jewish person who had family in Germany during the Holocaust. I would find it terrifyingly interesting to pick apart Hitler’s brain - how did he brainwash a whole country? How was he so evil?

Craziest thing in hospital bag

What’s the most unhinged or high-maintenance thing you brought to the hospital that you’re so glad you did? I’m not talking “silk pajamas,” tell me something that no one ever thinks of/talks about that ended up being a game changer!

Influencer therapists

I’m super curious on everyone’s thoughts on influencer therapists like Liz/Emily/etc. (pics of who I’m referencing included).

Also, can someone explain to me how Dr. Orna is not engaging in a dual relationship/exploitative relationship with her clients since they’re on TV together and she makes money off them outside of session? This is not coming from judgment, I am just genuinely so curious how therapy TV shows can exist.

Reported Supervisor

For about three years post-graduate I worked in offense-specific treatment with sexual offenders. My supervisor in this treatment facility was someone I really looked up to. She was wonderful at upholding ethics/boundaries, had strong convictions, advocated for her clients, and held me accountable in ways every new grad should be. Even after I left this sort of treatment and became fully licensed, we kept in touch and remained friendly and I continued to see her for professional support. I saw her 5x per week for three years when we worked together, and then 1x per week for continued professional support after I moved practices.

Long story short (and without MANY insane details to protect client confidentiality), I just found out that the entire time I knew her, she was sleeping and living with a client from the offense-specific treatment center. I found out because of a report made to her license about it. I had ZERO idea this was happening. I am shocked, betrayed, confused, angry … and grieving. It makes me not trust other therapists around me. She was the colleague I believe I knew best in the field. The therapist I looked up to the most. She presented as a “social justice warrior” type, a staunch advocate for the vulnerable populations she worked with (looking back … maybe in an effort to overly distract people from who she actually is).

It makes me question if I just missed red flags. It makes me question my own observational skills, my own ability to read others. I keep racking my brain to see if I missed any clues that this was happening. It’s destabilizing.

I do NOT need advice/supervision on this. I’m just sharing because I think it’s an important conversation of wolves can hide in sheep’s clothing, even in a field where we’re supposed to “cause no harm.” I always knew this, but it hits different when it’s someone you’ve gotten to know and trust (or so I thought).

Predictions

Disclaimer: I know this cannot actually be predicted, and really means nothing, but thought I’d ask for fun! First pregnancy, I’m 36+2 today and at my appointment I was 0 cm dilated, 50% effaced, and baby’s head was super low. What’s everyone’s predictions for when I go into labor ?!

Seeking Support

Hi everyone! I’m currently 35 weeks pregnant and I am so tired, uncomfortable, my OCD is running rampant, and I just could use some validation and support. Please note - I have a lovely, supportive husband, I’m on Lexapro, and I have a therapist. I am not looking for strangers on the internet to heal/fix me. It’s just nice to hear validation from people who’ve been there and get it **◡**̈

Return Still Not Accepted

Any thoughts on why our return still hasn’t been accepted? This is the first year my spouse and I are filing jointly since we just got married. I haven’t received anything from the IRS. Here is what shows on my account:
