Backstory: im a session drummer ( also huge quake fan) and I just finished up recording an album for an aussie artist Road Rage (Ross Cron)

We got talking about quake and he sent me this interesting theory:

"....Yeah hey speaking of quake

Hear my theory

Doom and Doom 2 had music from Pantera and other metal bands as level music

But notably four songs from vulgar display of power are in doom. Mouth for war, this love, rise and regular people

Note for note rip offs as Bobby prince Id software composer was a music lawyer who knew what percentage of music he could steal from a song

Anyhow.

Quake soundtrack was recorded at Trent Reznor new Orleans studio in 1995/96

At the same exact time as Phil Anselmo tracked vocals for the great Southern trendkill

Both quake and trendkill were released in May 1996.

Go listen to some of the pain sounds the quake main character makes. And the same again in quake 2

They sound EXACTLY like Anselmo screams

Very comparable to his outro grunt /scream in the song Death Rattle from Reinventing the steel

Plus I've always felt like the solo in Doom II first level had a real big Dimebag feel to it.

Pantera and ID are both from Texas. Dallas. Same city as ID.

Doom and quake coincided with Panteras rise to fame and glory. Almost side by side they triumphed

Music scenes are actually super tight knit as you'd know, I daresay Bobby prince definitely knew Pantera and their father Jerry

And yeah there was a theory that Michael Jackson helped write the soundtrack to sonic the hedgehog 1993, that an extremely observant fan spent a decade trying to prove, sega denied it, it went to court a few times, and in the end the fan proved it and won the case." -Ross

Again this is speculation, but i thought it was cool and y'all might like the read hahaha
